Simply the best white multi-instrumentalist blues player of his generation. World class electric, acoustic, National/Dobro, mandolin, harp, and slide player (who could blow a decent sax too) with above-average voice and great stage presence. Who else can you say that about? Not Clapton, Beck, Hendrix, SRV, Cooder, Winter, Green, Moore, Allman, Buchanan, or the other usual candidates (some of whom may have been better technicians on electric guitar). RORY WAS THE ALL AROUND MAN!
Love your intelligent and informed comment Rory was a one off. Totally committed passion to his music and fans was the real deal in every way and as much as I admire all the great artists you named and a few others inc Lindley and Page Rory was for me the Man.
Rory was a huge fan of JB Hutto who was know as the "Slidewinder" and he would have been proud to hear Rory ...no one for me comes close to Rory's talent ..people nearly always claim Clapton is the best blues guitarist this side of the pond ...bullshit ...Clapton wasn't fit ti tie Rory's shoe laces
This has been my favorite Rory performance since I First saw it on TV way back in the 70s.I remember Rory's Excellent Blues harp & Slide playing. Thanks for uploading this Gem !
i knew rory played harmonica, but feck me thats just out of this world. he plays like he did on guitar with the trembling noises comin thick and fast. lou martin and gerry are class acts to. anyone know what they r doin now?
As long as my faith in music holds me up in this life !!! i would vote .. rory ... i had the pleasure of being his tape op .. back in the early 80's .... he was the most gentle kind man i have ever met !!!! thank you rory xxxx rip xxx just one amazing guitarist xx and person xxx
As long as I`ve been on the Internet (8 months), I haven`t had the time to find every Rory out there on Y.Tube. Just now, at 4 in the morning, I`ve wasted another 20 wonderful minutes watching this one twice. I`ve played the Horner harp for 40 years, and I KNOW that he was having a damned good time out there on stage that night. I could have stayed with him there, but when he picked his Strat up again, even my humbuckers couldn`t have saved me. nice ride, 314. Joe
Well I wouldn't use the word 'wasted' to describe watching this but yeah, i still remember first seeing this and staring in awe when he takes off the strat. It's an unbelievable performance. The sheer passion he injects into it is phenomenal.
Look at US, Pawed! I wasn`t on the tube for any 8 months, much less the Internet back then! And I`ve only played the Horner`s harp for 39 years, so what kind`a crap was that? I was a stinkin` Lier! I`ll bet I WAS up at 4 though! And YOU! Did ya see me as another student of needed corection? I`m going to take off my strat and get you now! Don`t you ever listen to anyone else...like say Skinner, or the Almond Brothers? Your so full of it! I still have 30 letters .Bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla!
The Keyboard player is Lou Martin, and yeah, he was one hell of a player, and just plain fun to watch. i refer to him as the Angus Young of the keyboard haha.
Thanks for posting this,he was the best white blues man we have ever produced, played with a feeling...never mind Clapton, hes far to commercial. Doubt we will ever see the likes of Rory again....
His every tone on slide is just orgasmic!

Gerry is still gigging with Nine Below Zero. Along with Brendan O'Neil (drums) and Mark Feltham (harp) both of whom played with Rory.
