There are a lot of twisted things someone could do with any of the elements.

Waterbending - Rip all the blood out of the bloodstream. Name a body part, any body part, and then make it explode with blood.

Airbending - Rip the lungs out of the chest, or force enough air into them to make the lungs explode; cut off all access to air, making the person die of suffocation.

Firebending - Cremate someone alive.

Earthbending - Suck them underground to be buried alive.

Just to name a few.

It is a huge flaw in the story that Katara over night can bend blood when we see it took Hama many years to master. That is just plain ridiculous.

She explained the process (albight a very simple explanation) and seeing as she used it On katara, Katara may have been able to copy the hand movements and gestures. Also Kataras a practiced healer so she should know the human anatomy pretty well.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this, but there's something I never understood. How did Katara learn bloodbending so fast? It took Hama years to learn bloodbending...and she's a more experienced waterbender than Katara. Plus, she was using it on rats when she first learned it, so I never understood how Katara learned to use it on humans so fast.

Katara and Hama both say why in the fight. Its covered before this when she learns water bending under a master. Katara isn't skilled, she is talented. Rarely, and powerfully talented. Katara doesn't memorize, she has a natural gift. She masters most of the water bending skills in a matter of months. She just needed exposure to them, and their mastery came naturally to her.

@danthedementor2793 Hama also had to learn it by herself. She came up with the idea and had to figure it all out. Not only is Katara more powerful(she said so), but Hama used it on Katara first. I would guess that when Hama did that, Katara was able to feel exactly how it worked.

@danthedementor2793 You have to think she is a master water bender, and it took her less then a year to be one. Hama it took many years for her to be one, Katara is like a prophecy in the show. she is extremely powerful for her age it is no surprise she could do it, plus the full moon helped her.

I still think that there is no chance Katara would use it unless A) she was forced (first time), or B) she was blind with rage (second time). Bloodbending was cool and all, but I really can't see Katara teaching it to others.

Bloodbending has so much potential. The attacker could kill/debilitate by edema (abnormal concentration of bodily fluid somewhere in the body). I guess because Avatar is more for kids, and because it would unbalance the elements they couldn't do that.
