this is not a horror movie well for me, this is more of a delusion of someone who's mentally ill. Nothing really scary just the suspense it brings so you will end up imagining and scaring yourself this is more of drama and suspense. :<

This is the saddest, most touching movie ever. Right at this part it may be really confusing, but if you get it all in the end, it all makes sence. It's a great movie.

I cry so hard every time i watch the scene when Su-Mi is told that her sister is dead. The actors are so good.

@helpforjapan1 I think it's fake looking because it's part of the art direction in the movie ^^ Like in Tim Burton's adaptation of Sweeney Todd for example, at the end when Sweeney has his face all covered in blood spatter, it's very deliberately swirly in the style of most of Tim Burton's usual visuals as opposed to being all random like it would in real life ^^;

Su Yeon is a ghost and does not realise she is dead that's why she starts screaming.She then after this scene(not on the main movie as it was deleted) asks Su Mi why didn't she come to her rescue.

This is not my opinion but what the direcor said on the 2disc special DVD edition

which shows at least 15 deleted scenes.

Im a film major and I gotta say, the editing is AMAZING. At 6:37 there is a seemingly random shot of some plants and a wall, where nothing happens until it cuts to SuMi. It looks random but it isn't. Notice, one plant is alive but lower than the other, while the other pot is empty (dead?) and casts a shadow over the living plant, while a painting frames an image of a plant that no longer exists, like a photo of a deceased loved one. There's lots of these throughout the film, keep an eye out.

It means that the crazy sister is pretending to be all three characters, and the step mom isn't there at all. That's why the dad talks to her on the phone at the beginning and says that she shouldn't come over, because crazy daughter was not doing so well.

usually I would just tell you to just watch and everything will be explained, but in this case nothing really does. You have to figure out most it. BASICALLY every time you see the step-mom talking TO Su-Yeon it is all a delusional scene created by Su-mi. (just like everything else) If I'm wrong on this someone please correct me.

Sumi is schizophrenic.. She is acting as the stepmum bcoz of her illness... and yes the scenes with her sister are the delusional scenes.. Notice at the dinner when his father tells the stepmum to go to bed like she is a little girl with her head down? that is really sumi being told by her dad to go to bed... the real stepmum only comes in the ending part and the rest of stepmum scenes are all sumi...

Beatty says nothing gets explained but if you are observant, then it's relatively all explained. First, you see one pair of legs shown in that "wharf" scene when they both have their legs in the water. Then, you have Sumi and the Stepmom both doing things that the other was gonna do like the laundry and the books. Then, you have the uncle and aunt acting weird around the stepmom and you have the constantly showing of the two pills and the mentioning of being "ill"
