  • Whats the name of the piece of muzic?? amazing flute playing.. :D

lovely song, in my opinion :D

  • @XxDaughterOfHadesxX First off, it's not a song...it's a piece.. like the title implies on the link. "Piece for Solo Flute" or in the french title "Piece pour flute seule."

People, songs have lyrics, text. This is not a song, it's a piece, or work.

  • Beautiful...love your flute tips well,,,thanks! :-)

  • Technique (thumbs up). Musicality (thumbs down). You need to try and understand this piece. It should flow like a stream. You make it sound like the soundtrack to a bad dream. It's not a psychodrama.

  • @sk8er1370 As a proud owner of a pearl 665 RBE quantz coda I think that they are the best deal that one could get especially if you are looking for a semi professional at a good price. obviously miyazawa and burkhart's speak better but the price for them are something to behold. Pearls are great flutes.

  • @teichiboy I have tht model too, its amazing right.

  • I played this Piece last year! It's very beautiful:) I'm Vio Flautista in facebook, you are my Facebook friend! Do you remember me? Greetings :)

  • woowwww she plays loud just like me:)

  • my god, this is so beutiful

  • Beautiful !!

  • ja terz gram na flecie

  • Hi Nina. You play very well! I saw another nice video from piéce in youtube. The chanel is anacarina3. A beutiful Ibért too.

  • This is by far my favorite. It's so modern, I love it!!!

  • Excelente, gostei bastante do modo como você toca flauta Nina... muito bonito o som.... parabéns pelo talento...

  • fantastic...

  • wonderful:X:X

  • Melodia e execução da msm mt bela...

  • I always liked this peice. It;s sort of like a "best of" from the concerto.

  • This is beautiful. I am playing this piece for my jury and I can definitely say that your performance has been an inspiration.

  • OOO you did that Nina!! You played the piece that piece like a warm up! Look at you, being all experienced and professional lol Great job I loved just the crystal clear tone and beautiful sound.

  • Wow amazing! Love itttttttt!

  • i loved that.....C, i think it was at the 3:36 section

  • In my very humble opinion it's a little too aggressive, but maybe it's because of the microphone. Anyway, excellent sound and technique. Brava! :-)

  • beautiful. your sound resembles Dr. Judith Hand. Good job

  • Superbe vraiment.

Je rêve de jouer cette partition aussi bien.

  • meriotc:

    merci...

  • I really love this!

  • I wanna play like youu

but i am only a crappy beginner

NINA U ARE MY ROLE MODEL

    lol

  • i want to play like you...hopefully someday !!!! U R AMAZING <3<3<3 your playing!!! :)

  • I envy your tone! Even in the high notes it's great. I was wondering if there is anything you do to make it better, or if it becomes better with more experience. You play so pretty ^.^

  • Beautiful, ever and ever great, you using a turbine??nuclear energy?? Amazing,,,,

    You is the best..Bravissimo!!!!

  • I really like this piece

  • That "Jazzy"element you talk about... it's there, its sounds awesome!!! It's amazing how we can apply different elements or how I would call it > interpretative feelings and in this casa from another music genre completely. I wonder what Ibert would say about this kind of phrasing, I think he would love it!!! (I think that's the purose of all flute solo repertoire, to project the most amount of expression and present sound and beautiful tone.

  • I love it this is probably my favorite video!!

  • This is amazing!!!

    Your a Beautiful floutist!!!

:D i realy wish i could come into comparison!

  • Great Job Bravo Bravo!! ;D Lol ur so cool

    :3

  • lovely, feeling even while reading the music

  • i am speechless!! that was amazing!!! i wish i could play the flute as good as u!!! you are so my idol!!! XD

  • Wow that was amazing. I play the flute and I hope that, one day, I play as well as you do.

  • You have the most amazing tone I have ever heard in my life!!!!!!! Absolutely gorgeous, I applaud you!!!!

  • très bon mais trop fort dans les aigus.

  • OMG!!!!!!!!! Awesomeness! I start band this year. Not sure if I'll be playing flute or clarinet so I'm checking out videos of both. This is totally insperational in my case!

  • Perfection

  • Oh my god.......wow...just...I'm at a loss for words. Seriously. You're just.....amazing! Even that is an understatement!

  • I think that it's too much loudly and not enough delicate! It's french music!

Have you ever think that if you move less, you have more energy to play?

Sorry for my bad English, I'm French!

  • She studied with Alaine Marion.. lol

  • Wow, very nice.

Your tone is amazing, that video has given me inspiration to improve my tone even more!

  • I am enjoy your performance.

    Excellent!

  • you are an excellent player

  • That loudness is probably because of the room she was in while taping this. I like the reverb time a lot, it makes the sound bounce around nicely.

  • As someone who is always told to play louder even though I feel that I am already playing my brains out. I admire her ability to project so well. Wish i could do it that well.

  • inspiring.

  • beautifulsounds but projecting too harshly

  • @teskataftaba - I know this is old, but I must add that it is hard to hear what something actually sounds like on a recording. I've recorded myself many times, and depending on the microphone, you can get drastically different results. I would personally want to add a greater dynamic range, but don't think a flute can ever get too loud when it comes to expressing strong emotional content. The "harshness" comes from the microphone + speakers + harmonic distortion. Nina did a great job! ;)

  • if there is a more beautiful sound than Nina on the flute, I haven't heard it yet

  • Hi Nina! If I can express my opinion, as you ask for, I guess that your interpretation could be a little more delicate and intimate. It's just a flute that you play, not a trombone! But very good tecnique. Good practicing!

  • i think it is beautiful and that sometimes it is ok to play loudly. (but I am probably bein weird, I am used to playin loudly cuz though I play flute, and can't really play solo in front of a camera, I am in the jazz band) and we are the opposite, our trombone needs to play louder

  • and it is also probably cuz of the acoustics

  • incredible 0_0. now i´m beginning with the flute and i´m very impressed

  • nice job

  • luv it!!

  • EXCELLENT *gets up and gives standing ovation* very nice 5 stars

  • perfeito!

  • Really moving! Thanks for this haunting, beautifully played melody!

  • Beautiful. Heard this piece on the radio the other day, and fell in love with it. I think we all need more 20th century lyricism in our lives.

  • @samuelhunterdotnet

it is 21th century. thank you

  • Wow, really nice playing. Your tone and vibrato are flawless! I loved it. I play flute also and if you could check out my video and give me any suggestions, comments, or advice tI would greatly appreciate it! You're wonderful!

  • beautiful

  • Wow =O. I'm playing flute at high school, and... just wow x'D. I think I'll never be as good as you are, even if I practise hard X'D.

    It's really beautiful =).

  • Wooooow...

  • All I got to say is wow..im 12 yrs old and iv wanted to play the flute since 10 but im trying to convince my parents too..also Awsome music!!

  • Wow!!! Beautiful... I wish I could play flute.

  • Bravo, Nina!! You are courageous! For more colours use more your musical intuiyion

  • Forget Galway, Rampal, and all the others. Perlove is *IT* for flute playing, gorgeous sound, musicianship, teaching. BRAVA!!!

  • YOU ARE AMAZING!

I'm 12 and you inspire me to be the best! Keep it up!!

  • wow. you are defiantly AMAZING. no one is as good as you. lol. haha well that i've heard of so far. I'm hoping with everything that when i get in high school(yay! one more year). =D i can sign up for band and play the flute. ughh i want to play it soo bad after watching you play yours. it must be great. by the way...love your videos.

  • @midnight222777 Those are very nice comments you've made. However, I would urge you to broaden your senses by listening to many different flutists before making such a very large judgment. There are literally dozens of very fine flutists out there today, Ms. Perlove of course being one of them. But my point is that keep listening to lots of flutists and their varying styles of playing will help you immensely in developing your own unique flute playing style. Do not limit yourself too much.

  • Did Ibert write this before or after his concerto?

  • this is such a beautiful perormance! i especially love the section around 1:40

  • WOW!!! Tha's pretty AMAZING!!! The trill was ASWOME!!! Where do u get this piece?

    please respond!!

    xoxo

  • Baeautiful! Love the jazziness to it. Very gorgeous. Phrasing is well too!

  • Since i don't really have a teacher or anything, how exactly do you go about getting a quiet sound on the flute, i always seem to be loud.

Also, getting high notes, do I tighten embrochure? Or use faster air? Or both? It seems like when i try to get a '*third' octave E, i end up doing an A?

**Third octave, meaning the third octave the flute can do, low c (or B) being the 'first octave'**

  • RELAX! I cannot stress that enough.

For a quiet sound, do not slow the air stream but make it less intense.

For high note, try to make a very small embrochure and don't tighten up. Also, the note E is a tricky one, it has a tendency to drop down to A so that's normal. To help play in tune, open your throat up.

Good posture + practice = good tone.

    Hope I helped.

  • Hate that E! Gah.

    Thanks.

  • i think if you "use faster air" you just blow harder and that makes the high notes really loud and bleh. lol.

i think the best thing is to get a teacher!!

    lol

but i guess the embouchure needs to be a little bit tense for higher notes, but only a little bit because you're making it smaller really. play around with different embouchures and stuff till you come up with what you want

    =]

  • Ok then, still not sure about getting quieter, especially on higher notes, but thanks!

Ill probably switch to flute next year, clarinet bores me. *Yawns*

  • Okay, So I take lesson from Dr. Andree Martin who has taken under

Samuel Baron, Carol Wincenc, Tara Helen O'Connor and in Ottawa with

Robert Cram. She tells me when I'm playing hihg notes that I should

NOT tighten up my embrochure. If anything, that I should make it as

    relaxed as possibe.

She has me do an exercise where you start at your "weakest note"

mine being the E3 and you hold it for as long as you can with that

    good sound.

  • yep, your embouchure should be smaller but still relaxed.

  • You go up a note each time, chromatically.

To get that "good sound" she says to act like a beginner playing and just blow. You will find after about a week at practicing this, your upper register will improve drastically.[[:

  • aww... if only my flute was this good... I wish, right?

  • yea, most importantly, u have to shift urself comfotably, it doesn't necessary have to raise ur arms so straight all the time. Slight slanting doesnt hurt.

  • you hold your flute how ever it is most comfortable for you and you get your best quality.. i was also in band for 7 years and yes they tell you to hold it up but if you get a better sound with some slant then go ahead.. and she is solo performing so she can do what ever gets her the best performance. damn,

  • you can hold your flute wherever you want as long as its parallel to your lips. i HATE HATE HATE how band teachers say "hold it parallel to the ground" because thats wrong, it should be parallel to your lips. if it isnt parallel to your lips it just makes it airy and flat.

  • i love it. i'm in love! you go nina.

  • when starting soft to high, um, do you use a small amount of air? How do you play without people hearing the air that is passing your embrochure hole, I need a lot of advices because my sister says I'm annoying when i play the flute, and I don't know where I went wrong on the flute...

  • Its hard to master flute as well as Nina, just work on your embecure (sp?)

Mabey if you made a video ( You can just record and upload it as well.) and allow others to hear it and tell you whats wrong? Be sure to ask around a lot. I just got my flute today and I don't hear much air on my high notes...?

  • I really like the echo in that room! Great acoustics!

Im still waiting for a Piccolo video from you =)

  • OMG me too I want to see her play picc :D

  • You look like my french teacher but thats off topic your a very amazing player I wish I could play like that but only that type of genius come with years of experience I have only around 8 years of experience and so many more to go. Keep playing and never stop its too beautiful to end

  • omg wut is ur problem angry kid? -.- people on youtube getting really stupid...

  • Not cool man. Keep that to yourself and out of here.

  • who freakin cares if it's straight or not

it's only pathetic losers like you would say that

  • holding it up straight is only for beginners. this is how the pros do.

  • wow the real way to hold the flute is to slant it a little. dont be a hater cuz you know she rocks

  • it is slanted a touch... and just because you were in "BAND" doesn't mean you know your facts. You'd be surprised how little you actually learn in band.

  • *Sigh*

You see, the angle of the flute can help, or hurt pitch and intonation, which im SURE you knew from your major experience with fine arts. In this case, she may need to have 'hurt' the tone, for the song to be played well.

  • you played for 7 years but nina's played for 27, lol

if it hasn't affected her for 27 years and she's still been able to play so beautifully, why would it be such big a deal?

  • yup this will do it! stop all the seizures I have downloaded lots of flute music

  • your one classy lady! so pretty Im taken away with it so pretty Please keep posting Im tryin to learn very basics

  • That was beautiful!! You are such an inspiration to me-- I play the flute too!! I love your real music series--it's very informative--keep posting!!

  • either sum1's playing wit her or she does have a CD ): ur really good and i was jk

  • I CHALLENGE U TO A FLUTE COMPETITION X3 just kidding ur too good,im still in middle skool and learning, but i can play realy well,im at a rely good level, people say

  • just perfect!

  • wow, thats great.

  • almost cryed :`D

  • amazing high notes

  • thank you so much for this spectacular 5 minutes. awesome work nina

  • wat flute company do u recomend?

wat flute are u using right now?

i really like ur tone in ur vidss

im searching for a new flute right now

  • try armstrong,i think it's called that, thatys were my flute is from

  • If I may, I believe Verne Powell flutes are one of the finest. I play Haynes, but my teacher who has played for 40+ yrs plays Powell and has a $40,000 gold Jean-Pierre Rampal commemorative french open-hole low "b" axe that is as sweet as a warm spring morning! I'll bet Nina plays Powells or Miramatsus......Michael of The Flutes

  • Nina plays a silver Burkart flute with a platinum riser as of right now.

  • I play a muramatsu and im very happy with it. It's the lowest-end 2000$ one too :)

  • Holy cow... Do you have a CD? (if not you should!)

I really like your interpretation, I'm probably playing this for a solo competition in May and it's nice to hear different interpretations of pieces.

  • incredible. you're great!

  • An excellent★★★★★ performance as usual! This piece is now one of ma favourites!! Keep playin!!

  • Wow Wow came across your videos this evening. You are brilliant. I have just started playing after a very long break of about 10 years. I used to be not bad really but i think i sound awfull now lol!! These videos will help so much. I am having problems producing clean non breathy notes in the top octive, ( see my vids) any chance you can do something on producing a clear sound in the top range please? I am having real trouble finding a teacher near me :( So thanks so much for these!!

  • Delicious!!

  • blimey! incredible... one of those where i wonder if i should go practice more, or just smash it...

  • are you on your own to get better acoustics for the video or is this a performance??

  • It is amazing how much sound comes out of a flute.

  • lol! with the right use of diaphragm you can make flutes extremely loud!! its wonderful isnt it? :D

  • The only criticism I can offer is that sometimes you let the end of your flute dip too low, which can effect your sound and pitch. Try putting your stand up higher when playing. This almost forces you to hold the flute higher so you can see the music. You probably had it lower so we could see you :), so maybe put the camera on a side view?

  • I'm pretty sure, that she is a professional flute player, so I don't think she's gonna let her sound and pitch be affected, she teaches at Northern Kentucky...

  • i have to play this for an adjudicated solo in a couple of months. i hope i can play it as beautifully as nina.

  • o my gosh, I have to play this for an adjudicated solo in a couple months. i'm so nervous, hopefully i'll be as good as nina

  • Nina, how about playing Jolivet's Incantations? It would be fantastic.

  • I received a flute as a christmas gift and have been despairing at producing any kind of sound from it let alone something so astonishingly beautiful!!!

  • Astounding! Your way of playing this amazing Ibert's piece bears a strong resemblance to Aurele Nicolet's performance. BRAVO!

  • OMG! Amazing. Such a beautiful piece.

  • I almost cried. lol

  • Your AMAZING!!!

  • I play Brass and guitar, but that was awesome

  • What a wonderful sound! Thanks Nina for letting us hear such a great sound.

  • wow, thats amazing.I just started playing flute yesterday and i could never dream of playing like this.

  • you're beautiful! while flute is not one of my instruments, i've learned from your videos and i continue to be inspired by your music. thanks nina.

  • Very bealtiful sound, I could hear for hours. Which flute (brand) is this, please?

  • Yu rock soo much! I play flute too! I am the best in my internatiol school (not to brag) p.s. have you ever heard of someone called Tami? She is soo good! I think you should try playing Squirrels on your fute and post it. It would sound soo good!

  • you play beautifully! i play the flute too and i am actually playing for a solo Sonata No. 4 BWV 1033. you have an awesome sound!!!

  • Beautiful sound. My sister plays the flute- I'll direct you to your channel so she can see your how-to videos!

A question for you: what's your motivation in posting free flute advice? For me, posting violin instruction videos is a hobby I just decided to start on YouTube last month. How has the response been overall for you? Keep up the fantastic work- I'm subscribing!

  • Amazing. I hope my son will be playing like that someday. He is only 13, started two years ago and he has a lot of strength, good tone, and fast fingers, said the teacher.

  • Wonderful!

  • OMG that was AMAZING! i play the flute for 4 years but i really wonder if i can ever be as good as you are... 5*!!

  • Hello, I have played flute for about 4 years. I have a total and complete passion for it. I have never heard something more moving and inspirational to me. I love your playing. I believe you are officialy now my inspiration.. I love the flute...Id love for you to teach me a few things

  • I completely agree on your views on REAL playing...I`m also a flutist and I´ve seen so many talented people deserting music because they´re not able to cope with the perfectionism-frenzy. Really love the way you play; thanks for posting such beautiful pieces, a rarity in utube. ;-)

  • wow, beautiful, i like all your videos, your songs are wondefulm and others are help ful, what kind of flute do you play are what kinds?

  • What talent you have Nina. I just love watching your videos. This one really blew me away. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us in your teaching videos. I should have called myself the Tennessee Dreamer after hearing the rest of you play. Thanks again for sharing your talent.

  • You really nailed that one Nina! Try get yourself a recording contract - just solo flute.

I redid my bossa novas and reposted (just for you). One of them wasn't quite harmonically correct on the improvisation. Now it's a little better ...

  • i think i'm compulsively obsessed with you videos-i mean, they just sound so incredible!!

i have one question: do flutes tend to get longer as they get higher and higher in quality?

my flute is a just a beginning one and yours seems to be much longer!

  • I'd guess that what you're noticing is the B foot. Some flutes have an extra key on the foot joint for playing low B (below the C just below the staff). Beginners' flutes don't tend to have these, since low B can be difficult to play.

  • amazing!!! soothing....i could listne to it all day and my problems would melt away. your a wonderful flute player!!! i hope one day to be as good as you!

  • I second that. She is a wonderful flute player. Lovely tone. Have she done Syrinx? Haven't checked. Another nice one is called (?) - "Morning" (I think). Maybe Nina knows it - in 6/8? Have to find the sheet music here somewhere to get more details.

  • Nina, it was AMAZING !!!!!

I hope I can play like you one day :)

  • Wherever you were just playing, it has great acoustics to go along with your amazing sound.

  • This is so gorgeous. Your sound is spectacular.

  • I have to listen more to Solo Instruments and singing. Because I can learn much about phrasings and articulations!

    Thanks for sharing!

    warm regards,

    wolfgang

  • wow thats crazy good

  • I can't get over how good your run at 3:15/16 is! It's brilliant!

    ",

  • great. not specially french sound, but pure and with a lot of force. fingers: brilliant

  • yeah nina great sound!

  • Nina. You're awesome. I was playing along with you on my flute (doing variations, of course). Let me know if you're ever in Victoria, BC (Canada). We'll have you up on stage in a jiffy. The conservatory here has a nice auditorium (an old church).

  • whenever I play this i go for a little bit of a paler tone color in some of the softer/more feminine parts

i agree with johny102marvin, you should make a CD
