  • @AlexBeston shorters solo. finishing 645. is very interesting

  • TONY WILLIAMS! YES!

  • Does anyone who know who was miles' drummer during this time?

  • Well this is certainly impressive, but am I the only one who wouldn't enjoy listening to this? I mean sure it shows off their talent, but it doesn't really fit together like I think jazz should, anyone agree?

  • This video has more than 2.3 million views. There may yet be hope for humanity.

  • Why would they bother naming this song walking, the only people I know who walk that fast are Olympic race walkers lol.

  • They made that song their BITCH!

  • Wayne can't hear the rhythm section - he only hears his heart and the rhythm section in his soul. He is sublime.

  • Tony's sticks look huuuge

  • I see 5 guys walking on the cloud...

  • It's just a bunch of guys honkin' their horns. Check out ADRENALINE MOB if you want real music.

  • I need an operation on both my legs after that!

  • It's amazing how straight ahead "avant garde" jazz continued well into the late 60's b4 Miles went electric and turned the whole psychedelic rock community on their heads.

Jazz is and was the American music that defined our culture/s in such an integral way, even more so than the blues, which is of course the foundation of jazz. However, jazz is and was the evolutionary spiral that made so many things possible through its infinite levels of creative expression.

  • I don't know why, but i don't see anything impressive in this video,.

  • During this time, I believe the drummer Tony Williams (R.I.P.), was either 18 or 19 years of age!!!

  • Almost... Tony Williams was born in 1945 (December). So his age was 21. Amazing drummer!!

  • I havea bootleg of this show. We listened to it on a long trip somewhere and I think I listened to it three or four times back to back. Off the hook!

  • ambient Elvis (Y)

  • @spiccybaby FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAAAAAR beyond man...

  • Half humans, half gods. Far far beyond where most of us can reach.

  • Ron Carter, " A SOLDA "...... Bravo!!!!

  • i think, only a guitarist try this bass notes what this bass player plays, this guitarist becames problems...

  • absolut respect to negro peoples!!!

  • @LazyBastard69

You are kinda Crazy aren't you ???

Sure there is Jazz,Blues,Rock and so on but they are all difference....

  • red glasses, fuck yeah...

  • hell!!! this version should be named RUNNIN' not WALKIN' :) love 'em....

  • Thanks for the song. It's a masterpiece !

  • I just love how miles davis tries to get rid of the pressure in his ears right at the end. I thought i was the only one doing it like that :D

  • I wonder what your typical classical music orchestra member thinks when they are confronted with musicianship like this.

  • @moffat691 He can't think, he just reads notes.

  • @moffat691 There's no Jazz, no blues, no classical music, no electronic music or whatever. There's just music, motherfucker. Accept it!

  • @LazyBastard69 Yeah, Rebecca Black, Miles Davis, what's the difference?

  • @moffat691 i admire this persons talent....

  • Incredible. A lesson in time, race, politics. Oh, and music. Always Miles. Incredible.

  • who is the drummer in this? god damn he is amazing

  • @2blackman1 it's Tony Williams. He was only 18 at the time.

  • If I come back in another life as an Arab, I hope my name is Sivad Selim.

A lot of you won't get that, until you spell it backwards...

  • @calico992 also Sivad and Selim are two miles davis songs.

  • So great! MD is the shizz. There's a point in the middle of this performance that just turns into a winey horn and unstructured slashing symbols. Sounds like noise. Then turns back into melodic harmony.

  • great!

  • 最高

  • Ron Carter's left forearm is a cold unforgiving mechanical vice made of steel as demonstrated at 2:38

  • ‎O Desafio Musical De 250 Dias.

  • The double base played is hella tall.

  • super

  • I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED MILES DAVIS MUSIC...HE'S A LEGEND....THE GREATS ARE ALL GONE....

  • @shermeka03 Not true. There are a handful of new greats. Also, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and Ron Carter are still alive, which is most of this band.

  • I am a bedbug and I find this rude.

  • saxybair13

  • @wags699 Yes!!

  • da zickt nichts

  • Big thank pixaninny !!! :)

  • if your going to perform to showcase your talent with an instrument, it better be real good. got my vote...

  • It's like the blues on ecstasy :S

I totally don't mean to offend jazz lovers, because the skill on display here is out of this world! But boy, it's just a tad to much for me, I tried it, and it's just not for me :)

  • @Wdec29 It is quite out...lol. Their studio recording of it may appeal to you more. :-)

  • it is a trumpet dick head

  • @maximvuolo ...Needle-dick...the sax player...Wayne Shorter...is consider a god...get it right!

  • @maximvuolo Wayne Shorter is playing sax. You obviously didn't watch long enough.

  • FUCKIN GREAT!!! FUCKIN GOD ON SAX!!!!

  • That's most definetly Tony Williams - who is Max Roach jr? Love this version of walkin!

  • Burning play!! I am a drummer and I came across this video incidentally. The drummer here really looks like and plays like Tony (ex. very effective use of flams). Max Roach should not have a son of this age in 1967, I don't think.

  • This is not free jazz this is hard bop

  • @LocoAullador78 This is not hard bop this is modal jazz.

  • @LocoAullador78 not hard bop, not modal jazz as that other dude said. it's just miles...although if anything I'd call it "free bop." To quote a commenter on another one of these vids, it's too out to be in, and too in to be out. To compartmentalize this group detracts from what was so great about it.

  • @LocoAullador78 I hate debating genre because I think they shouldn't exist, but no one is saying this is hard bop. Hard bop was the name given to R&B inspired bebop. It wasn't actually "harder" than bebop. It's just a misnomer.

  • is that a really young Tony Williams on drums!?!?!?!?!?

  • @wetrib No that's Max Roach Jr.

  • i was 5 Jeahrs old, mmmh maby i can remember me, i belive i heare it at "Radio Luxembrg" ...the basist is awesome..........

  • これは,凄え動画!! まるでモダンジャズのパンクの如く疾走感!!トニーDr&カーターBassがマイルスを煽りあげてます♪

He is a genius at Music♪❤

  • I can't belive the way of fast who reach this quintett...i'm shocked...

  • and bending notes and playing in between notes. quarter tones if you like,as coltrane did.

  • Da brennt nichts an... und der Bassist... oh my Gott..

  • People, people this is just amazing!

  • just like a storm...but ive never seen such a storm!!

  • Great! Where do people find this stuff?

  • Ron is a giant

  • Is Miles even playing notes, it just sounds like he is randomly blowing the trumpet fast to get a sound.

  • @Holycrap27 he spooges sometimes..some random shit because he didnt practice much later on. in life. but most of it is very accurately played result of long hard years of practicing scales, arpeggios dizzy gillespie, charlie parker, monk riffs , stuff he copped from modern classical music too ...if you can hear and analyze it he is playing all notes from a pool of notes that relate harmonically to the chord the bassist and pianist are defining.....with a little slop too...but not much.

  • @Holycrap27 good call.he is also doing just that. just playing sound for the sound. the wonderful prerogative of a modern jazz horn player.

  • Miles Davis Quintet had the Power of Greyskull.

  • i like how after the song is over they walk off like nothing happened..like they the song they played didn't alter they course of jazz forever lol

  • The four Kings

  • all solos are great!

  • ;-) i need a drink now, thats so good...

  • Damn you Tony Williams and your load-bustingly amazing chops!

  • FAR OUT MAN!!!!!!!

  • MD5 blew up everything!

  • Damn!!!!! U see how Miles look at Wayne at the very end? that look means: " Damn we good... We nailed that sh***t"

  • THIS IS SICK! WAY DOPE! R.I.P MILES DAVIS.

  • Masterful. 'Nuff said.

  • i know they're legends of jazz, but am i the only one who doesn't find notes jammed together at that speed enjoyable?

  • They don't always play it that fast, I'm sure they just got bored of playing it slow and thought, hey we're all badass mofos why don't we just play it fast as fuck.

  • @slydrr13 stfu fag

  • Everybody is killin' it. I saw them several times live. It was outrageous!!! Miles left the people with their jaws hangin.' It remains to be truly DOPE!!! I wish Hedrix could have joined them he was alive back then!!

  • I would tell everybody who disliked this to die ... but they obviously have no soul, taste or senses left, so it seems as though they are already dead.

  • @SlappaDaBassMon1

    Amen, bro.

  • MD..is the doctor of jazz.. he was a talented man....love love

  • Great. Thank you for this gem .

  • The cool guy lets out the heat on this one.

  • Stotinu "dislikes"! Kuda ide ovaj svijet?

  • @wags699 dont bring wayne to this video please. its annoying

  • Best jazz combo of all time. Wayne Shorter's solo was amazing. Tony Williams brought a m-f as Miles would probably say. Ron Carter is a master who brought flexibility to time. Herbie is one of the best compers of all time and is a mater of post bop and bop styles. Of course, the main man Miles made it all possible.

  • A hundred dislikes?! How is that even possible?!

  • @bassistof97 it just swings so hard man... too hard. makes people poop themselves

  • @bassistof97 maybe some people dont like that fast rythm? i like it though

  • @bassistof97

Probably just because he was racist.

  • @bassistof97 Always has to be SOMEONE...even IF I don't like a certain type of music.. I keep it to myself..

But anyway..A young Tony Williams playing GREAT....

  • @a280zxxguy It's not good to keep things to yourself, you will repress yourself into some strange disease. Be brave and let the world know how you really feel ! Max Roach Jr is the drummer here not Tony Williams. Tony Williams came after this tour.

  • @bassistof97 my guess is the fuckers that say stupid shit like "i just hate free jazz...i can't even listen to it"

  • @bassistof97 a hundred crazy people :P

  • @bassistof97 I guess some people tend to dislike what they can't understand.

  • @bassistof97 It's just a little too busy. BeBop = ShitBob. What? You did ask, after all.

  • @bassistof97 100 people know shit about music.

  • @bassistof97 Grasp a bit from the outside mainstream world, and you'll that's not a scray number.

  • Kanye West a good musician...c'mon...really.. ? ;/

  • @PositivelyBored ....LOL.. too funny

  • Know it by heart but still love it!

  • sick drummer

  • No offense, but Davis needs Tootie or Roach but this drummer is abominable ._.

  • @Fantasticifaction "This drummer is abominable"???? That is Tony Williams, you idiot! One of the greatest drummers ever. You mention Roach and Tootie but you don't know who Tony Williams is? What a fucking twat.

  • @Fantasticifaction If Tony Williams is abominable, I wonder why Roach chose his ride cymbal for him?

  • walkin while cookin

  • @GanjaGabe and steamin'

  • Nice! Normally you don't hear Miles go this fast. Definately showing his bebop roots here. Maybe he didn't have as much chops as Dizzy or some of the others, but damn he had vision and he had more chops than most.

  • @mtthwpowers He went this fast for most of the '60s and half of the '70s.

  • @mtthwpowers You don't, huh? Well, I have three albums in front of me where he went this fast - Four and More, Miles in Tokyo and Miles in Berlin.

  • @lenniethedogsparty

Really? Awesome. I'd love to hear more of it. Any good youtube links?

  • FetusWenus...you nailed it there.Amen.

  • hard bop is the best

  • 2:00 mitä helvettiä tonyllä liikku päässä?

  • is that tony williams on drums?

  • takie granie ma sens

  • Vaikeaa :/

  • drink

  • Sounds like an elephant being attacked by bees.

  • @z3dzo hahaha

  • Miles and Tony dig so deep into this piece that it amazes me that that they ever came out of it. Simply Awesome!

Chills run through my spine every time that I watch it.

  • For "newbies in Jazz", try Thelonious Monk's Greatest Hits. Try different kind of Jazz styles, like hard jazz (Miles Davis, Monk, Charlie Parker) Jazz fusion (Weather Report[Heavy Weather] Mahavishnu Orchestra[Birds of Fire], Return to Forever).

  • 0:41 anyone else hear cherokee?

  • @ThyrsusDionysus

    Yeah, kinda.

  • @rowtypo Hey no problem. Kind of Blue is a great album to start off with. You should pick up the album Milestones and Sketches of Spain also by Miles. On Sketches of Spain you can hear the genius that is Gil Evans in his arranging along side Miles's playing. Also check out the album Chet Baker Live in Tokyo. He recorded it not long before he died, and what I believe is some of the best west coast you will ever hear.

  • ótimo

  • MONSTER Wayne.
