  • Dose anyone knows if it will work on HP Pavillion ZE3751us?

  • ANYONE: How do you install the drivers?

  • its ubuntu it will auto detect 90% rest can be found in forums.

  • i have installes in my netbook the desktop edition

  • this isnt's the netbook remix, this is an other version of ubuntu

  • Comment removed

  • Ubuntu will work on a netbook, The remix UI is designed for ease of use when dealing with small screens. Depending on the graphics chipset on the netbook it may or may not run compiz. Trying to run compiz on a net book is a bit silly as it already has limited resources. Even if you can run it your just robbing yourself of valuable resources that could be used elsewhere. If you want full compiz and eye candy you shouldn't even consider a netbook, that is not the purpose.

  • thhats AWESOMEEE :D i got this notebook yesterday..... do you have a tutorial on installing ubuntu :)

  • go on the ubuntu website they have tutorials on there

  • And another question, does Compiz work on this Netbook and Ubuntu Netbook Remix?

  • There are videos of Compiz running on it (well ive seen one) I just wonder if we can have the regular "look" of ubuntu instead of the remix. I dont care much for its UI

  • you can. a friend of mine have msi wind with ubuntu 9.4 (not netbook edition) with compiz and other stuff. i use archlinux with compiz in my asus eee pc 1000

  • it does work in this netbook, dont know about ubuntu though

  • Haven't tried yet, but in the ubuntu forums they say that Jaunty corrects all those flaws. I still wonder what's best for gaming in this netbooks, ubuntu or Xp

  • Well netbooks arent great for gaming anyway unless its just like a snes emulator or something.

  • linux + netboks = cool

  • linux + anything = cool

  • me + your mom = cool

  • That ='s Immaturity.

  • These + Comments = Idiot.

  • In case you'll see me as a hater, don't understand me wrong.

It's just sarcasm to Marioperfect's comment.

  • No, I know what you were meaning :)

  • does that mean that the ath5k hack is no longer needed?

  • The Atheros WLAN works straight away with Jaunty, although I found things where a bit more satisfactory once I enabled the non-free Madwifi driver.

Only thing which does not work is the WLAN LED, but I can live with that as there is a network activity status indicator on the desktop.

  • dose everything work strait away with Jaunty? like mic and webcam?

  • Yup camera works straight away. and for the mic you just set the sound prefs to HDA intel alc268 analog alsa.

  • how can i get mic to work its not workin and i put the Jauntey thing on it? exact guid pls?

  • OK, go into Preferences > Sound Preferences > Audio Conferencing Section, make sure its set to 'HDA Intel ALC268 Analog (ALSA). Default Mixer Tracks should be set to 'Capture: HDA Intel - ALC268 Analog. Everything else on 'Autodetect'

Also go into 'volume control' (loudspeaker icon at top right of desktop). Go into 'preferences > device > make sure that the volume slider for 'capture: Monitor of HDA Intel - ALC268 Analog' is turned up. Turn anything else that says 'capture' right up as well.

  • hum i tryed but when i do the Recording thing built in it just dosent work i record then it is in audible

  • w8 nvm it is working now :)

  • hey is there a way to get the Right side card reader to work and can i dual boot xp with it like i have it with Jaunty and it is intalled first? i have plenty of space left :)

  • There is an issue with some versions of the Acer One BIOS affecting the right card reader slot, when using Linux.

You might want to check the page at:

help. ubuntu. com / community / AspireOne (remove spaces)

Basically has your Acer got the latest BIOS 3309? If not do a BIOS update.

  • One other thing i want to play KOTOR2 on it and i made iso's of all 4 disks and copyed them on to the aspire one and installed with wine and at first it said i dident meet the video card requierments but i have played on xp with it and then after the wine update it just says it cant find cd. so i got a tool from the add/remove place that lets me mount iso's and i did but same thing happens. How can i fix that and my Logitech E2500 are the only thing that want me to make a windows partion.

  • Sorry can't help you on gaming with WINE. I know WINE can run some Windows programmes, but not sure which ones.

How well did KOTOR2 work when it was running under Windows on the Acer One? I thought the Acer One was never intended as a FPS gaming machine, with it's low powered Atom processor and Intel GMA graphics.

There is a FOSS driver for the E2500 camera, but its quite a bit of command line stuff, and you have to compile a driver. Do you really need that camera, as the Acer has a camera?

  • ... continued...

BTW I've got a no-name cheapo Chinese web cam in the spares box here. Works on XP after installing driver, does not work on Vista, no driver. Camera worked on Ubuntu straight away.

  • for my my aspire one has run everything i put on it and very well. I put WoW and Guild Wars both on 300Kilobit connections (i have max 2 Megabit and through wifi its very slow) i did wow on private servers. And i just bought the camera so i want to use it and it is 1.3 unlike the built in one 0.3

  • I'd say if your main interest is gaming. Have the Acer as a dual boot, and do the gaming with Windows.

I've read some reports that gaming works very well with WINE, and other times it sucks completely. All depends on the game I guess.

As for the camera and the number of pixels. It all depends on what you're using it for. If it's just for Skype where the video is 320 by 240, the built in camera is plenty enough. It's actually quite a good cam for vid. conf. low light performance is great.

  • If you really do want to get that Logitech working with Linux.

    actionshrimp . com / 2008/08 / logitech-quickcam-e2500-on-ubuntu-skype / (remove spaces)

Have fun, as you'll be compiling and installing a kernel module from source.

  • Suggest everyone try Ubuntu Jaunty Netbook Remix on their AAOs. Installs in about 15 minutes from a USB stick, boots in about 40 seconds, everything works.

Far better than the Linpus Lite it comes with. IMO the word Linpus sounds like a skin disease.

  • i am gonna buy also a netbook

on my normal computer i run opensuse

but it looks like there is no special opensuse edition for netbooks

i think it will be to heavy for a netbook

but does anyone know a really good supported linux distribution for netbooks (ubuntu is not really my taste)

must be with KDE i don't like the gnome feeling

  • Try Fedora 10, this worked great on my AAO. Fedora has a choice of KDE or GNOME.

Myself I'm totally happy with Ubuntu Jaunty netbook remix, as the main OS for my AAO.

  • i did not buy a netbook

when i go to the store alot of netbooks looks like toys

but i find a laptop to looks like a netbook but it is a notebook also small

    HP pavilion dv2 1010ed

    works really great with opensuse

only synaptics dont works really well

  • i hate the fucking totem player that thing is such a piece of shit.

  • Take eeebuntu 2.0 - everything works otb

  • forget the last comment.

how do i install the madwifi drivers?

  • any luck with the madwifi drivers? my wire lan worked out of the box, but i tried a bunch of wifi fixes from the ubuntu aspire1 forum, no go.

wiping clean right now to try again...

  • so you never get the wireless network to work?

    cause I don't.

  • Internal Mic Issues can fixed easily updating alsa drivers. ( It works for me) !

  • hi how do you connecet ubuntu to wireless lan

  • your video is rather old, have the problems been fixed as far as functionality?

  • almost all of the problems from 8.04 are fixed by installing the Intrepid Ibex release of Ubuntu (8.10) including the audio and wifi issues.

  • how many memory can this netbook have? is far enough to work with office or any image edition software?

  • does it run smoothy with ubuntu installed

  • yes it does compared to XP. (A110 version)

  • thanks im thinking of getting one and i dont realy like linpus but ive used ubuntu before.

  • @eleven2181 it can have slight problems at time tho

  • no, im sticking with fedora

  • Also I'm going to disassemble it and installing a 3G module for a complete mobility :D

  • I'm going to install Fedora 10 in it.. I think it could works ok ... lets see :)

  • Does anybody knows how to install the madwifi driver the "easy way". I had been on ubuntu's AA1 page for over a day and I cannot get the wifi to work..... any help or links I can follow?

  • You say you converted back to Linpus Linux Lite. Can you tell me how that is? I've been searching for where I can find Acer's version of Linpus Linux, but I can't find it anywhere. They're technically supposed to leave it open since it's a spinoff of Linux, Wikipedia even says they've released it's source codes but they're nowhere to be found...

  • Comes on a recovery up disk that comes with the Aspire

  • Oh, bah. I gotta find someone who bought the linux version then -_-

  • You wanting to switch from the XP one then?

  • I bought the XP version with the 160HDD, I dual boot XP, Vista basic, Ubuntu, and I was hoping to also boot the modified Linpus Linux as well for when I just need to log on quickly. Since it's a version of Linux I figured that Acer would 'have' to provide the source codes, but if it only comes on the software CD then that's disappointing, I'll have to use the version of Linpus Lite offered on their website. It still provides the quick boot, but I was interested in the interface of Acer's version

  • Ah I see how is the Ununtu boot time (I have the same spec version as you just bought it as the Linpus version) because I'm looking at switching from Linpus Lite to it but i heard something about there not being wifi drivers easily available

  • No they're not easy to find, should you decide to install ubuntu, you gotta run these command lines:

    sudo aptitude install ndisgtk

    sudo ndisgtk

Then launch Ndiswrapper in System > Administration > Windows Wireless Drivers, go to tiny*url.*com/982vty (leads to download2 link, can't say it on YouTube) to download and extract working Windows XP drivers (Acer's provided drivers do not work for this). Select the net5416.inf file you extracted with Ndiswrapper and install, then restart Ubuntu.

  • Oh, and the boot time for me is around 43 seconds not counting the waiting screens where you select what Os you want (though I don't think yours takes 15 seconds if you don't also have Windows installed)

  • Cheers for the help I'm a bit of a Linux n00b to be honest so I may try and find a video walk though so I don't screw up, thanks for the info :)

  • on acers homepage

  • LuckyNibb, you can find the Linpus Linux source codes on Acer's website. Go to acer.*com/support/download.*htm and select it in the 'Linus Software' drop down box, or just go directly to it's redirect at ftp*://*csdftp.*acer.*com.*tw/ (YouTube is mean censoring website urls)

  • Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,

I made you out of clay.

    Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,

    With dreidel I shall play.

    YAY! =)

  • kool

  • lol, "faggot dickeater". Jew.

  • Even though you're right, nobody likes a cocksucker.

  • have you noticed this is not a mac hardware?

i'm not saying mac is bad , nor that you should not try it, but this is not definitely something about mac

  • sarcasm?

u know, mac software only boots in mac hardware (or emulated mac hardware)

  • can you explainme how do i install the wifi driver??

    im noob =$

  • wanna get the manual? PM ME

  • i tried different things

-windows xp : sucks, gaming is ok

    -ubuntu: its very nice

-linpus: sucks harder than windows xp

-eeebuntu: cool but wifi-usb won't work

future test : kubuntu 8.10 it looks great and i think the wifi etc is going to be perfect just like ubuntu ^^

  • - ubuntu is nice after all the tweaks you need to do and there are things not working 100% (mic, hibernate, sd on reinsert). boot up time is the same as xp (45 to 60sec). kubuntu is the same. waiting for ibex release

    - xp is power hungry (2hours batt), need to remove excessive disk usage settings but i need it currently to run dreamweaver and flash, and visual studio. boots up in 60sec plus

-linpus is limited but is just enough for a netbook. batt life is around 3hrs and bootup is 20-30sec.

  • kubuntu 8.10 irritates me, wifi and usb works but the interface isn't handy, ubuntu is certainly the best, im going to install the ubuntu 8.10 beta ;)

  • i was thinking about buying one within this month now that ibex came out. or i might just install openSuse 11. these will i think the best 400 i will spend plus its really small.

  • you no i have and aspire one and i tink the linpus is just fine i dont realy see the point of installing ubuntu its just a waist os spae and a waist of time the limpus versioun is just fine.

  • agree. i'm just used with ubuntu that's why i tried it out and fedora is quite new to me that time. anyway, netbooks are just netbooks so linpus is quite enough.

  • ubuntu takes to much time to start up

  • Is it possible to install Ubuntu in another partitiona and keep Linpus in the main one? I mean in the Aspire One with HD 120Gb. Thanks for the videos!

  • Excellent video!

It looks even better than I expected it to be. The interface is very very intuitive and looks really good, too.

The initial boot will surely be lessened in the future as the community will start to tweak the settings (maybe someone will even recompile the kernel).

  • if only i have the brains to do it as i am not really familiar with fedora. :( all i can do now is wait. :)

  • On the point about not being able to see all the options due to screen size, do you know that in Ubuntu you can move a window by alt-clicking anywhere on it so you can move windows upwards to see the buttons if they are off the bottom of the screen. This is very useful with small screens like on the One.

  • wow.. i didn't know that. hmm. if only the mic works properly i would jump back to ubuntu. Thanks!

  • have you selected mic boost +20 option in alsamixer?

  • I tried to install ubuntu 8.04.1 on my aspire one, but wireless doesn't work. how did you make it to work?

  • wow that took a while to boot, i'll wait for eeebuntu or a special xubuntu distro before i change the os.

  • what is that sound!? i ordered an aspire one thinking it would be totally silent....please tell me that's a fan in your house or something

  • it's a desk fan so don't worry. :) the unit is silent.

  • haha, good.

now, how did you get ubuntu remix?? i thought it wasn't released yet

  • they released it already around june this year. :) still sluggish though they *might be releasing a more slimmed-down version later this year.

  • to clarify things, it's not Released as an ISO format or live CD format. you need to install it yourself (google the netbook remix ppa then install via synaptics)after installing ubuntu 8.04.1 .. ubuntu 8.04 won't work so get the newer release.

  • cool video! but how can you enable that advanced setting?
