I WAS TALKIN TO I GUY WHO TIME ON RIKERS,WE WERE TALKING ABOUT MOST BRUTAL PRISON FLICKS; MOST REALISTIC FOR ITS TIME,FORTUNE & MENS EYES, BEATS THIS ONE HANDS DOWN FOR BRUTALITY,ITS A CHEESERS THOUGH,.
Miguel Pinero also appeared in 'Fort Apache: The Bronx', which starred Paul Newman and Ed Asner. BTW ain't no way they're lettin' you rock a gang cut in Riker's nowadays! The 70's, man!
Pinero was a hood rat robbing apartments of hard working people in NYC in the 1970s, the truth is the truth. Some people don't want to be reminded of Pinero's past transgressions, but he hurt a lot of people. Just loved that Heroin, oh so good , "...yea baby let him get high so he could jump off a roof."
Miguel Pinero was a no good Dope fiend and used to rob people's apartments, some poet, yea after getting high , sky high, he probably all his bullshit
Pinero was a drug using Bum until the end; the actors on the set of Miami Vice were on edge when he came around with all those "questionable figures." His art I wonder, was it truly separate from his vices? Umm, he was a piece of Sh@! and you know it. U can't defend dereliction, flotsam, and urban scum like Pinero. He was chasing homosexuals in prison for crying out loud.
@kimdayne Maybe I was too harsh on you, but that said homosexuality does not change the greatness of an artist. Check out Walt Whitman and Allen Ginsberg, great poets also gay. I'm not here to judge an artists life only enjoy the art. Are you homophobic ?
Your trying your best to allot significance to a Bum; he was what he was - a drug using punk the artistic community decided collectively , "this is our underprivileged ghetto artist of the day, lets celebrate him." If he accomplished the things you mentioned OK, but he was a punk preying on old women, and others whom are at a disadvantage. Punk ass.
@kimdayne Thats true which is why John Legizamo decided not to play him (thank God cause Ben Bratt killed that role and made him somewhat like able) He was a great poet but by far not a good dude.
YOE!!!! Yeah... Prior to this scene Luis Guzman is coming out of the shower while Pinero and his boy run up on that dude that owes them... Then Curtis Mayfield gets involved... who as part of his recording deal was featured in the movie along with Freddie Fender.

Curtis Mayfield put the soundtrack together also.
It's not a true life connection that he had a Dynamite Jacket on.
Remember, this is only a movie, and they are emulating real life.
So the connection to the streets, is key to their visual feeling
portrayed.
