I have tears on my eyes, it's amazing how limited we can be with our unlimited blind dogs, and they show us how great and smart they can be.This is a great example for me and my dog Brissa (Breeze), greetings from Colombia and a great big hug!
I love your video. Having a blind dog is just as fullfilling as having a sighted one. We just have to learn to play different kinds of games with them. Mine loves to play hide and go seek. Her tail wags wildly when she finds me. We don't need vision to love one another.
Fantastic dog.I can see he is old.Dogs have intelligence that can be far superior to humans.I noticed just when you threw the stick his head would turn.I hope he is still doing well.
Had a chocolate lab when I was a kid who went blind at around 5 or 6. He was dumb and stubborn as hell, which was kind of a blessing since the blindness had little effect on him; his personality stayed as carefree and stupid. The only problem is since he was so stubborn he wouldn't listen when you were shouting stop, which resulted in him crashing into walls and trees on a regular basis.
Great dog, great master. She surely knew how to make him happy and feel useful. They both don't have any chance to get bored. Wonderful way of making the dog's life worth living. He still got his other senses so she used this thing to continue doing what he loved most - fetching the stick and swimming. Also helps this beautiful dog never feel lonely or rejected. Life is wonderful when you have such friends. This dog's master is his best friend. Thank you for sharing.
Hi all, I have male pekingese and recently went blind. He's got Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome (SARDS). Does anyone have any experience with such condition?
Inspiring - my 6 yr old Aussie Cattle Dog is now very close to total blindness from Progressive Retinal Atrophy. I was so worried about how to continue to play her favorite games, so I bought a very tough rubber ball with a bell inside. We used to use tennis balls and throw them far with a Chuck It - Using the bell ball, we can go out in the dark of night, I throw the ball - she brings it back every time. Also look for toys for blind children - a frisbee with a beeper, balls with noise-makers.
I bought an expensive ball like that for my blind dog and the other dog destroyed it in two seconds--besides, my blind dog doesn't need a bell or anything, he finds regular toys on his own 'cuz he's a stud.
I have a blind dog. While she doesn't fetch, I can say that without a doubt that the dog in this video is visually impaired, if not outright blind. Blind dogs do not act like blind humans, they more readily shift their dependence on eyesight over to hearing and smell. My dog gets around just fine blind, which includes navigating 2 flights of stairs twice a day for her walks.
Amazing and encouraging for all Blind dogs - I adopted Elmer a blind hound mix July 2008, he's crazy about water and balls... Never thought about throwing stones to help him find the ball... My heartfelt gratitude goes to everyone that shares their blind dog stories - sharing with the world, these blind pooches can still maintain an amazing fulfilled life!!! :) Thanks for sharing!
really wonderful and creative way to enrich your dog's life. thank you for sharing this. i hope this will educate some rather ignorant people that animals (and people) with disabilities are only handicapped by the low-expectations of the those around them. keep playing and having a great time with your beautiful dog!
My shih tzu has lost her eyesight too, she is mostly blind but can still see bright light, she is so brave and I admire her courage, she also enjoys life and seems happy , still it breaks my heart that old girl is blind.
All we can do is love them, in the wild they would die a harsh death. I love my blind dog and will look for rhe vidioes of Tomsolna.
That is wonderful! What a great parents and what a great dog! I am learning as well. I just adopted a 4 year old blind dog last week! I hope I can teach him great things like you have taught your baby! I think just by giving him love and reassurance they will gain the confidence and be as functional and happy as any dog that has full vision! That is my goal anyway. Good luck to you!
I really appreciate the owner for keeping the dog with them even thought it has gone blind... But please don't test it any more of its faith. I am sure it would rather prefer dying but will never disobey you...
Oh wow! i am a dog owner and never knew that dogs can be blind! So when i saw this video i felt so touched~ even animals have learned this, when one has the will to achieve everything is possible!
It's not so cool to treat a blind dog that way, on what appears to be a cold day, sending him into the water. It would be an even cooler trick if the lady fetched the stick.
So I'm only seven months late with this response..but anyway, she's not forcing him to go in the water. I have two dogs and neither will go in the water if it's too cold or they're too tired, even if I've thrown a stick or tennis ball.
Just because he's blind doesn't mean he can't control his own actions anymore.
Hi from all your friends at Petentials! Hope you're been doing great. You always have the best animal (and piano!) videos, and this one is just beautiful. :_) Thanks for sharing it with us.
Hey!! ^_^ How you doing? I'm glad you like the video! This dog really touched my heart when I saw this, I just HAD to record it (I asked for permission of course) Also, do you have any news or time date of when the sprite article might be up? ^_^
I'm doing great, thank you. :D I'm so glad you shared this inspiring and touching story with us. As for Sprite's interview, we're still working on the new front page code, but it's going to be featured in our newsletter very, very soon! I'll be sure to let you know when it comes out--I just can't wait! Thanks again for your wonderful videos!
I know, the story is bitter sweet. It sucks that he's blind, but it's wonderful that he's still able to do things he loves with the help of his awesome master.
I love it! What a sweetie! That's cool that you both found a way to adapt the game so that he can continue to play. You can tell he gets a lot of joy from it.
There is a dog named Lightning at our local dog park. He is blind but it hardly slows him down at all!
Dogs seem unencumbered by that human trait of feeling sorry for oneself. Instead they seem to deal with what they've got and move on enjoying life however they can. Seemingly without regrets. We've so much to learn from them.
