  • The congressmen........Mr. Garbage....is a pompous clown. Not unlike most democrat congressmen.

  • That congressman really thinks he's special. I don't think I have ever seen a greater display of arrogance by a politician.

  • 4,000 miles away from frozen wasteland, Brinkley is not part of the Arctic community. His agenda is at odds with those residents. We must & will vigorously develop renewables, but only an ass would choose to cripple the economy first w/ higher energy costs to fund the necessary research. Just like many so called "educated", Brinkley thinks he knows what's best for all people. Hard to respect anyone suckling on the electric grid, driving cars,& bitching, while Inuit survive on blubber 6 \mos/yr

  • he is a jerk, but he is right. we need to drill

  • the chick behind him could use some dick

  • So typical of the arrogance of this ignorant Congressman. Are Alaskan's paying attention. Please, please, elect a replacement. Do yourself proud--send this guy into Retirement. (BTY, he needs to be checked for Alzheimer's...seriously).

  • Further, Young's claims that the land is "desolate" and "empty" and so it would be all right to dump oil all over it are ridiculous and yet another example of Republicans’ ignorance of the delicacy of ecosystems. This “empty land” trope was the same one the government used to justify testing the nuclear bombs in the deserts of southern Nevada and northern New Mexico – yet, as we all know, there is no such thing as an “empty” or “desolate” space on the earth.

  • Young's criticisms are little more than the typical know-nothing anti-intellectual rhetoric and name-calling ("Well, you're an elitist, so when you go to the wildlife reserve, it's just not the same as when I go to the wildlife reserve!") that we've come to expect from Republicans. He’s obviously starting from an assumption that profit and money come before environmental protection.

  • This looks more like a dictatorlike high school classroom than a congressional setting.. From the supremely rude Mr. Young to Hastings, who just continues to reprimand Brinkley and even smiles when Young starts complaining. Even the girl in back...her body language and expressions just scream that of a teenagers. The only one that comes out ok is Brinkley.

  • Just another example of why we really need to vote out all of the trash. Who does this joker think he is? Holy power trip! " You don't own me" is the new battle cry for this election cycle!

  • ALAKA!! DO NOT VOTE FOR DON YOUNG ANYMORE.

    Thank you.

  • BRINKLY = OPNED!!!!

  • Did the asshole congressman forget he is a civil servant, what a smart ass prick!

  • Are not Congressional hearings supposed to be hearing, all I hear is congressional representative talking? If they want to bloviate, they should tell us who is putting money in their pocket, and only then, be allowed to ask a question. Any ad hominem attacks by anybody should mean immediate removal.

  • just another useless piece of shit republican congressman, does anyone expect anything different

  • That horrible fucking congressman is a traitor to America... We (as taxpayers) pay his salary and we do NOT pay him to verbally assault educated experts who offer their testimony on important matters... For him to constantly refer to educated people as "garbage" is intolerable and a disgusting abuse of his position. WE THE PEOPLE are the boss... he is a public SERVANT and needs to be retired ASAP. This angers me beyond belief.

  • By the way. We have no idea what Young was talking about when he said "garbage." To say he was attacking Brinkley or his testimony as garbage is absurd, as he was never able to finish the sentence! Divining the thoughts of others is great fun, but it serves absolutely no purpose.

  • he did no such thing. he called him the wrong name, by mistake, and Brinkley immediately took the opportunity to attack Mr. Young's college record and alma mater.

If anything, Brinkley added like a jackass and was put in his place.

Do people really have selective hearing this badly these days?

  • @jboze3131

Young only came into the hearing shortly before his crusty wig-out. He didn't hear Brinkley's testimony and is SO fucking spaced out that he doesn't know the guy from the school where he teaches.

Young has ALWAYS been a piece of shit whore for Big Oil and Mining.

And, your attempt to defend him is pathetically revealing.

  • @Gmissile ahhh, so because he came in late gives Brinkley the right to insult his intelligence, and because he came in late gives everyone the write to falsely claim that he called Brinkley's testimony garbage.

Silly me. I thought it better to actually look at what happened and take it from there, but instead you're supposed to color your view of things negative toward Young, because he came in late. Oh, and that he's a piece of shit whore. Thank goodness you were here, I feel so silly.

  • @jboze3131

    ...and rightfully so.

  • @jboze3131 it make sense to disrespect brinkley as he is talking to him? "garbage dr rice" are u sure your ears arent full of dirt? is it approriate behavior of a congressmen who respresents the masses? wow plz dont even bother responding as i can identify you as you are "garbage"

  • @jboze3131 Wow, selective hearing? Read all the comments Jboze3131. Then decide who has selective hearing, 99% who see the Congressman as a bully, or you, the 1%, who see the guy trying to testify and answer the questions to be at fault. Who cares which party he belongs to. A bully is a bully. And a bully in a position of power who tells others to shut up (or worse) is a dangerous thing.

  • He has been fighting this battle for 39 years ..HELL he as been bought for 39 years while collecting a salary off the taxpayers...and the other shit head saying to Brinkley were not perfect.... That asshole just called a citizen of the US" garbage" you prick..you should be telling him off.. Fuck this... time to hang these bastards

  • Don Young is a complete fucking joke how the hell does he talk to someone like that truly awful!!!!!!!!!

  • This guy makes Sarah Palin look smart and reasonable.

  • Does anyone see what's wrong with this??? We are in SO much trouble!!! These are the people that are making decisions for us as the people of the USA. We elected these idiots!!!... God help us... these senators are making decisions that will effect us long after they are gone... They won't have to deal with the consequences of their actions.. so what do they care???

  • Blow me Don Young!

  • As the western world collapses - these baby-boomers will cry at their loss of power....

  • Sounds like the type of public servant we DON'T need.Arrogant abusive asshole.Hoping there is a place called Hell for jack asses like this that live in their ivory towers.Wonder what the kickback will be for him in terms of millions when the bit hits TD.This is what we have in government,no wonder the U.S. is going down the shitter.

  • you just be quite

  • DON YOUNG is a DOUCHEBAG!

Don Young (R- Edison Chouest Offshore), resign, you piece of trash!

  • I hope Young chokes on a drumstick tomorrow. What a dirty rancid musty old piece of white chelated dog shit. I bet Young buggers 10 year old male seal pups right after he bludgeons them with a Bat. Look up young on wiki. He gained office after a guy died in a plane crash. Be it the Bridge to Nowhere, Bribes, Investigations, Abramhoff Scandal Indian pay-offs, Pro-BP, he's been there thru it all with flying colors of scum corruption! Brinkley should have told him to go fuck himself & walked.

  • Asswipe Don Young and his buddies... jerks that are ruining our country because they are payed off to do the wrong things. Money is what they are about.

    FU Don!!

  • Take a look at the people running our country... arrogant assholes who only care about the money someone is putting in their back pocket for favors... Congressman Young was totally rude and out of character... WE put these idiots in charge of making decisions that can change our world forever... think about it people!!! We have a bunch of selfish self centered egotistical idiots in congress!! pitiful!!!

  • Congressman Young: " I can call you anything I want to call you when you sit in that chair, just be quiet. "

I'm a Republican and I'm all for drilling, but that arrogant, power crazed Congressman from Alaska just made me feel embarrassed.

  • You go Douglas. That congressman needs to lose his job. Thanks.

  • Yep Hornfan 84, The young one in the back is among many who are in the mix of these demonic parasites, not implying the obvious, it goes way beyond that.

As for the sick arrogant behavior of the official, Thats what they have been allowed to become. Most of you should know by now, THEY DO NOT WORK FOR YOU AT THIS MOMENT! Educate yourselves of the fact.

  • @beardphotos,

"all oil is sold on the international open market" is simply a lie. all oil that initially passed through the alaska pipeline was required by law to be sold in the U.S. the clinton administration repealed that law but even now only 7% of the oil pumped in alaska is exported.

i DID forget that when liberals display ignorance and repulsive disrespect it's called "speaking truth to power" and to be applauded.

  • @duffer29 Lets put back that law. 0.01% being exported is too much if the argument is we need to stop buy foreign oil. Furthermore, isn't our #1 import of oil come from Canada? I don't see why there is a problem with buying from our friends in the north. I don't know the exact %'s...but why can't we just stop buying from Venezuela and the Middle East? Also...a great way to stop importing oil is to start looking at alternatives.

  • Better question is who is the smokeshow sitting behind the old angry man?

  • Setting aside the congressman's ignorance and repulsive disrespect, his argument that extracting oil from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would relieve the USA's reliance on foreign oil is simply A LIE. All oil is sold on the international open market. No oil is, or ever will be, the exclusive property of the United States. Once it is pumped, the oil companies can, and will, sell it to the highest bidder. All Young's rudeness cannot hide that fact.

  • can someone explain how the OPINION of a college history professor from texas has ANY relevance to the issue of drilling in anwr?

and mrpoliticalscientist did you ever hear the expression "half a loaf is better than none"

your fact doesn't prove anybody right or wrong.

  • Term LIMITS! Time for the royalty to go..

  • what an ugly person on the inside more than anything else!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The market for oil is global. If drilling is done there, it might make more sense to sell the oil to Japan, which isn't that far away, and buy our oil elsewhere. Anyway, it won't have much benefit here. If you buy oil from ExxonMobil or whomever, who cares where they got it?

  • At 58 seconds "breaks the comedy" OHHHH the Freudian slip. how true it is. LOL.

  • @scitreb He said 'breaks the comity'; it wasn't a slip.

  • Rep. Young had no questions for Brinkley? Did the committee call him there so he could listen to them talk. Trying to change American one witness at a time!

  • Watch, Alaska will re-elect this dolt again and again. Pathetic. That was really unbecoming behavior of a US Congressman.

  • Typical, arrogant, piece-of-shit congressman. who has wet dreams each night that he's a powerful tyrant.

  • Somebody has anger issues......

  • Geez, a liberal college professor or a politician... At least the politician had facts to correct the liberal professor. However, the belittling I can do without.

  • @IrenicIronist

I agree it was poor behavior of the congressman, but he did have a extremely good point about the wildlife perserve

  • @IrenicIronist Good point, the Senator made sense but needs to leave the holier-than-thou attitude at home. What a tool.

  • @IrenicIronist - Facts? God you're fucking brain-dead! How about this FACT- The United States uses in excess of 6.1 billion barrels of crude oil PER YEAR....the entire oil supply in ANWR is 3.1 billion barrels! Even with secondary extraction that means a maximum of 50% of that oil can be exploited and actually brought to the surface. That FACT equals....liberal college professor is right and the greedy, uneducated republican is WRONG!

  • @MrPoliticalScientist I'm always amused at how vile liberals are. It is like most of you are suffering with rabies. So, what you stated, correct me if I am wrong, is that since the reserve has a limited amount of oil in ANWR (there are no unlimited reserves I'm aware of) we should not pursue its extraction. There is a limited amount of wind and solar power as well. Should we throw the towel in on them as well? Don't you think it is time to put away your unicorns and face reality.

  • @IrenicIronist - I'm always amused at how uneducated republicans/"conservatives" are. It's as if you people go out of your way to be ignorant of facts and reality, so you just turn any thought you want to believe as the truth in your diseased brains into a "fact." Newsflash- that is not how the world/reality works. Yes, that is exactly what I'm stating. It's called "risk assessment," ever heard of it? Why risk destroying a pristine tract of land for less than half a years supply of oil? Get it?

  • @MrPoliticalScientist Please point out which "fact" I have wrong? Exactly what kind of energy are you in favor of? Also, if there is ever a risk of anything going wrong I guess you are against it. Drilling and producing oil safely and cleanly isn't exactly a new technology, pumpkin. We have done it for a long time. Do you drive a car? There is a risk you may crash and die.

  • @IrenicIronist Yup, BP did drill and produce oil safely for a long time. I would be all for drilling if we had the following: 1. A law that said ALL oil drilling in America stays in America. 2. No limits to the amount of $ the oil company can be sued for should a spill happen. 3. This is rather general...but Oil companies need to work WITH environmentalists and not against them.

Having said that...Alaskan residents get a profit share check each year...thats why they are pro drill

  • What a repulsive man!
