  • he has showed us like 10 of your songs!!!

  • my teacher made us scream CHARLEMAGNE and wave our hands in the air. It was soooo funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOUR SONGS!!!!!

  • This is absolutely fantastic. I just finished Vol. I of John Julius Norwich's "Byzantium." Now I have a soundtrack for my reading.

  • i love it we watched this when we first learned about fudalism!!! its friken awesome!!

  • this is a good way to study for a test thumbs up if u agree

  • my eyes hurt, this video is very flashy!! XD

  • Charles Martel was not a king either. But yeah his power was more or less a king's one.

  • Charlemagne, Holy Roman Emperor ? What ? It was formed the next century after his death, by the saxon Otto I !

  • @MrRemicas

Charlemagne was crown as Roman Emperor in 800. Is Empire include France, almost all Germany and the north of Italy. After, the Kingdom was divide into 3 differents one: East Francia, West Francia and Lombardy. East Francia become later Germanie and in 962 Holy Roman Empire. Otton and is successors have alway see themself as the succsessors of Charlemagne. So France have complete the ''Renovatio Imperii'' with Charlemagne and HRE was a continuous attemps to achieve it (or remains !)

  • Comment removed

  • @LeRevolutionnaireQC That's what I said, it's not the same empire. The "Holy Roman Emperor" title did not exist in the period of Charlemagne.

  • I am Charles...... OBEY ME!!!!!!

  • These are great review for my French IV final!! (We do history for part of the year). Thank you!

  • jk :3

  • my six grade teacher had epileptic and she watched this and she screamed so loud japan can hear it

  • Warning, do not watch if epileptic. Will cause massive seizing.

  • I wish my school liked it like others, they think it's boring...retards.

  • could you do one with joan of arc? we are learning of her and these videos stay in my head all day :)

  • A good video, but you should put a warning to people with epilepsy in the beginning.

  • lol, don't watch epileptic sufferers. :P

  • Probably should put an Epilepsy warning on here. xD

I'm glad I don't have it. Our teacher played this without us knowing what she was doing and then out of nowhere *flashflashflashflash* xD

  • Yeah..... actually Charles Martel was never king of the franks, he was mayor of Austrasia ,Neustria, and Burgundy but he was not king, the kingship of the carolingians started with pepin the short

  • @darkfool2000

Charles Martel became king in 737 , he took the power himself .

  • @NasriTheNewKing he appointed kings and had the power of a kings but he himself was never crowned king, its a technicality.

  • @darkfool2000

You're right he wasn't crowned properly but he had more power than all others kings , no one opened his mouth against him so they considered him as king , putting later his son Pepin the short who will creat the carolingian dynasty .

  • Bahaaa!

  • CHARLEMAGNE!

  • @historyteachers I love this song. I have a huge test on this on MON! This is helping SOOOO Much! I'm doing my Charlamagne HW now! lol. our teacher showed this in class, and she said she e-mailed you...hmmmm...love the songs...if only my teachers had shown me this 3 years ago i would have had a 100 in history!!! lol thanks so much!

  • So.....many flashing lights....my epilepsy!

  • The way she dances reminds me of Serena for bewitched

  • In my class in 8th Grade we got the answers to a quiz by using this song today. YOU GUYS ROCK!!! :D

  • this is one if my fave songs

i first heard it when i my dad showed me it and i likes it

and when i am alllowed on the computer i just look for this song

    go mrs b rock on

    charlemagne

  • One thing for sure you got Debbie Harry attitude down LOL!

  • 4 have no name

  • There should be a warning on the title for all the flashing lights (not that good for people with epilepsy) Just saying. On another note...my whole school watches your videos. Once my class was let out of class a little early and you could hear one of your videos down the hall. None the less, my whole class started singing that song. We watch these videos whenever we get the chance to. You have started something great; I hope you continue to make more!

  • We watched this in my Social Studies class months ago. people are STILL singing it. It's just catchy!

  • Is Roland "Orlando Furioso"? Yes, I think.

  • @DollGirlie Roland and Orlando from the tales of Charlemagne are the same person...never hear the "Furioso" on the end, personaly.

  • Playback!

  • I couldn't watch the video due to the fact it was probably gonna give me a flipping seizure, but I still listened to it. :D

  • my whole school loves your videos

  • EPILEPSY!!!!!!! AUGH!!!!!

  • There is an old story that what Robert Benchley (the famous author and commentator) learned in his first year at Harvard (amongst other things), was:

Charlemagne either died or was born or did something with the Holy Roman Empire in 800.

Apparently, viewers here are ahead of the curve, and ahead of Harvard!

  • last french emperor before Napoleon ?

  • @lightnessss he was absolutly not french. he was born in Wallonia, lived in Germany.

And talking about france is an anachronism

  • @osez jealous :p

  • @osez

Charlemagne was Frankish, the French descend of the Franks (the name "Kingdom of the Franks" has been changed into "Kingdom of France" during the reign of Philippe Augustus). And in German, France still have the name "Frankreich".

So yes Napoleon was the successor of Charlemagne.

Napoleon: "I'm not the successor of Louis XVI, but the successor of Charlemagne".

  • Wait, what happened in 1066? I feel as if I should remember something...Oh well! Never mind then.

  • Hail to the dynamic duo of Mrs. B & Mr.: H! Can you please tell me the name of the movie that furnished the Charlemagne clips? This is the first video of yours that I saw and it is my favorite. It is eerie how Mrs. B takes on the persona of Debbie Harry in appearance, attitude, and singing! Thank you for the wonderful music, especially the New Wave music!

  • @rtmorphine I am pretty sure we used History Channel's Dark Ages (2007)- it's awesome!

  • @historyteachers I just read Isaac Asimov's "The Dark Ages", I had no idea he did science fact and non fiction. :) I'll have to look into the program from the history channel.

  • Fun Fact: he used an asbestos napkin to entertain his guests by magically putting out fire at dinner parties

  • SEIZURE TIME!

Danke !!!

  • Just a quick tip: Charles Martel was not a king...

  • @fedelede2

You are correct that Martel was never king, he was Major Domo or Mayor of the Palace. I suppose the best comparison would perhaps be a position similar to the Prime Minister of England. Still, he is where the real power was, just as today political power does not actually rest with the Queen Mother in England.

In short, Martel was King in all but name.

  • We learned about Charlemagne, and we got a kick out of, "Wed four Dames". and we all-around LOVED this.

  • Although Charles Martel was never technically a king, he actually ruled. For the last four years of his life there wasn’t even a phony king for him to rule in the name of.

  • How coincidental...

Charlemagne was featured on a game called Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword. I am a fan of the Civilization video game series and most of my fellow fans think that Charlemagne in the game looked like the Burger King mascot. How odd...

  • I would just like to add that this video should contain a warning for the flashing, a girl in my class was quite affected.

  • I would just like to add that this video should contain a warning for the flashing, a girl in my class was quite affected.

  • I just had a quiz on Charlemagne and this was such a great reference to have!!! We watched it in class, but when I got home I watched it again and again and watched many of your other videos! Thank you for your help!

  • Charles Martel was NOT a king !!!

  • Awesome song! We're learning about Charlemagne in class right now and our teacher showed us this and we all loved it! We keep begging to hear more of your songs in class. Whenever we hear this the other classes shut their doors because we start screaming "CHARLEMAGNE!!" when you do. (;

  • @MehMarleahs rock on!

  • My mom's birthday is on Charlemagne's, so now I call her Charlemagne.

  • @fridgnetha Your comment made me laugh so much, haha! Thanks for the laugh :P

  • if only college parties had this music blaring in the background lol...

i'll try to make it happen next weekend :)

  • I am addicted to your videos! Charlemagne is my favorite. It's inspired me to learn more about him! I love Blondie and "Call Me" is one of my favorite Blondie songs. It's uncanny how much you remind me of Debbie Harry in both your looks and attitude in "Charlemagne". Your vocals are awesome! Please do some more Blondie! Add some Dire Straits, The Police, Pat Benatar, The Ramones, Green Day, & Blink182 (i.e., "What's My Age Again", done nude about Lady Godiva)! I know that remark means detention!

  • charles martel was a king and i have proof!! this song is true!

  • hahahahahahaa mahh teacher showed us this video and every1 loved itt!!!:D we kept begging her 2 putt it again!!:p myy frend even was recordingg it!!;) lmao xD kool video!!!!we also learnd alott!!!thxx)!!i ot an A cuas of yoou guys!!:D

  • @TheGamemaster66 cool! Wish I could see that! I used to have a group of girls do that and I called them the "Charlemagnettes"

  • @historyteachers we listen some of your music videos in social studies class! like this!

  • charles martel was not a king...

i don't know if someone else already pointed that out

    \

  • what's missi diminici?

  • @badboysRhawt22 Missi Dominici - means "servants/messengers of the lord king"...Charlemagne sent these guys around to supervise /check up on the regional lords of the empire and make sure they were executing his will...a great idea to keep tabs/control on one's regime

  • Geiiiiiilll!

Only German Kings can be "Kaisers"!

    Germany forever!

  • @eial777 german born in Lidje?

  • i watched this in social studies!! i love it!

  • i watched dis in world his

  • Lol..."Charlemagne! ... thats his name"

  • I watched it in history class... ^~^

  • Oh my god, this and the Black Plague songs will help our class in our medieval learning! Thank you!

By the way, you should make one about the Swedish Empire and the Great Northern War.

  • @fedelede2 being that I am married to a Swede, I might have to!

  • This song is great! And it helped me pass a quiz XD

  • haha, i watched this in history class

  • Not bad for someone from Herstal.

  • You're great :) Love it.

  • a few of my friends and i had to teach a lesson to our history class about Charlemagne and now everybody remembers him as "The Burger King Guy".

  • Epilepsy warning people!

  • firstly...charles martel never was king, secondly ...amazing song!! u just rockzzzz! (as same as Aachen), Greetings from Aachen, Germany to u!!!

  • @McMacki Can´t believe you said that... :D

  • Whoa. Charlemagne got married FOUR TIMES?

  • lol my last name is Franks

  • this video almost gave me a seizure when my teacher showed it to us...

  • I Managed to outsmart my Dad with this. Thanks :D

  • For those interested in primary sources on Charlmagne I thought to link a translation of a primary source:

    fordham.edu/halsall/basis/einhard.html

  • Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

  • Now if only somebody can figure out how to get Blondie (Debbie Harry) and Mrs. B, together on stage at the same time, singing this song.... why, I think we'd definitely have the potential for a gold, if not a platinum single. We'll need two Burger King Crowns, of course! How we'll tell them apart is another issue! No offense, but... this time, I hope Mr H. tones down the flashing special effects a notch. Just keep the rest as is!

  • lol he looks about 50 at his coronation not 26... oh well

  • @DiVeronica That's a good observation...he assumed reign of the Franks at age 26 in 78 or so and wasn't coronated by the Pope until 800.

  • @historyteachers he was king of the Franks in 768, king of the Lombards in 774 and emperor of the romans in 800 which is more an honorific title than a function (sorry for my bad english)

  • Charles Martel has never been a king. Just a powerful prince stronger than the king, but never the king.

  • @MoelkPatriot a kind of prime minister

  • @osez Yep!

  • This is really good! Thanks for posting. I will share these with my principals.

  • If you send me a usable email addy, I can fwd to you a lovely email from delancey place about a buddy of yours called: Charlemagne - That's his name!

    Pierre & Sweedie Cat

  • @MedievalGal +Count Artha Although he didn't really use the title, the song states "of Holy Roman Emperor" fame..and in many texts in America he is referred to as that. They state this in a UCLA web site called "The Historical Charlemagne"

which, for some weird reason, YouTube is not letting me post...eek

  • @historyteachers Youtube prevents practically links, sadly. I've taken to PM'ing people when they ask for a link.

  • @MedievalGal - Yes, the height was taken from a passage from Einhard, Charlemagne's secretary/biographer..."He was 6 ft 4 inches tall, and built to scale. He had beautiful white hair, animated eyes, a powerful nose..." -probably not the same measurements we use now

  • Loved the video! But we've got no idea how tall Charlemagne was and the tallest I have ever heard is around 5 ft 8 in. Edward I, aka "Edward Longshanks" really was as tall as legend has it: recent scans of his thigh bones suggest he was about 6 ft 6 in. Also, true that Charlie wasn't called "Holy Roman Emperor" but neither were any of the medieval emperors before the Hapsburgs. The emperors, after election and before papal approval were called "King of the Romans."

  • This is fabulous. I'm going to play it right before my lecture on Charlemagne!

  • Gee...if you taught kids history this way, they'd probably like it and remember it better. And nobody says "gee" anymore.

  • Excellent stuff. Keep up the great work!

  • Did you learn to dance form Elaine Benes?

  • I'm hot for teacher.

  • Bloody hell, Charlemagne was six foot four?! That's tall now - in 800 he must've seemed like a giant!

  • @belindabeller I guess when your target audience is 15 you don't worry about that

  • @historyteachers I'm fifteen, so I guess I'm right on target!

  • WARNING!!

Seizure/Migraine inducing with the flashing lights!

  • I like your videos. However Charles Martel was never King. He did rule like a king but never had the title.

  • @SimonDeMontfort1972 Since the Merovingians the Frankish rulers saw themselves as kings (rex Francorum) and were also recognized as thus.

  • @Cenedlgarwyr

Charles Martel was not a Merovingian. He was Mayor of the Palace.

  • @SimonDeMontfort1972 My bad, I thought your comment was on Charlemagne. I need to read more carefully.

  • @SimonDeMontfort1972 Charlemagne wasn't "Holy Roman Emperor" either. he was "Emperor of the Romans."

  • @CountArtha I wasn't talking about Charlemagne. I was talking Charles Martel his grandfather.

  • Merci

  • Very well done.

    Great imagination and production values.

  • Odd/funny but pretty cool really. Well done! Entertaining and educational, bravo.

  • Super gut ! *****

  • i love Blondie )

  • this is great fun, good for you people
