I have one, I want a bigger screen but I can't find a tv that beats the picture. My brother is all proud of its 42 inch that displays 1080p and my tv just does 1080i but it still looks better. It looks as good as the day I bought it. Its heavy as hell though.
They are ridiculously heavy, but these are examples of modern HDTVs that actually have durability, and longevity. Notice that the screen doesn't crack if you were to throw a small bouncy ball on it? I have always looked up upon the CRT technology as being superior to it's more popular counterparts.
I have one of those tvs too. I was using a LCD as the tv in my bedroom. Well, the picture quality on this blows my 1080p lcd out of the water. The lcd is now being used as my computer monitor. The picture on this sony is deep and rich, and full of color, while on the lcd, the blacks are grey, and at certain angles it looks washed out. If you get one, make sure you clear space first, because once you set it down, you ain't gonna want to lift it again. I have the 34" model and it weighs 200 lbs.
I have a HD 32 inch one of these its ORGASMIC but fucking heavy as hell but i think all the hard work of geting it out of the house than into a truck than out of the truck down to my room was worth the 100 dollars i spent thats right only a 100
I have this tv in my bedroom. I wish they still made the crt because they have much better looking HD picture than lcd and plasma. I have a 46inch Sony ex 500 lcd and this 30 inch shows much better.
@joeldude76 yeah dude youre lucky. i just have a 32 inch samsung that i play in 1080i, its awesome. if i had a bigger room, and more money, i would definetly buy a mitsubishi tv. its a great and yes, its cheap
yeah im lucky i have a hudge room but i know what its like to have a small room i use to have a 10' by 13' room it was so small i couldnt lay on the floor lol
@joeldude76 dude my room is smaller than that. lmfao. my bed is big so it takes up half the space. lmfao. but yeah, moving into a house soon, so i cant wait. XD
No, Sony pulled the plug on the FD Trinitron/WEGA line in 2007, for the U.S. at least (they kept making them awhile longer in some places like India). Which is too bad because these are great TVs that can easily outperform their contemporary LCD peers, and are arguably better than many plasmas as well.
But the people said they wanted thin and lightweight TVs rather than ones that display the best possible picture, so Sony (and most other TV makers) listened.
I'm assuming by "too large" you mean the depth and not the screen diagonal. It's a shame that so many people are willing to give up picture quality, affordability, AND multisync capability in order to get a lighter, thinner TV. And now we're down to like TWO manufacturers of new CRT's for the U.S. market.
Think about it this way: you're going to be watching your television a lot more than you will be moving it. So just find a good place for it and you're all set!
newer tvs are smaller but better....are u saying that CRTs are better than LCDs and plasma tvs? old tvs are also more unhealthy because their light contrains more UV rays
Yes, absolutely I'm saying they're better! As far as picture quality goes, CRT is still the best although plasma comes close. CRTs offer far superior response time (almost instantaneous), much deeper contrast and black levels, wider viewing angles, and more accurate color rendition than the best LCDs. Plus they're cheaper. Radiation is moot because the lead blocks virtually all of it and you'd have to be sitting just inches away for hours on end to feel effects. CRT may have Pb but LCD has Hg.
really, i dont like the quality of CRTs....no one really does.....i dont know why u say they are better....maybe i should see an HD pic on a CRT tv....but really, i like lcds
You seem to have been brainwashed by salesmen for overpriced LCD HDTV's. Any true enthusiast and unbiased person who knows what they're talking about will tell you that CRT gives a better picture overall. Now if you're comparing a 15-year-old off-brand analog CRT with a brand-new Sony LCD HDTV, then maybe you'd say the LCD is better. If you see an HD picture on a CRT HDTV, I promise you will NOT be disappointed.
Matter of taste then I guess. Sure LCD does the bright colors better but I like the ability of the CRT to handle the darker ones better.
Unfortunately no one makes HD CRT's anymore (at least not in the US), and there's only a handful of new standard-def CRT's available now. Sony HD CRT's tended to be pretty expensive, especially at first, but so were LCD HDTV's. In the end they were able to get some pretty cheap models out the door, but they could never do a 1080p one (except for projectors)
couldn't find a practical way to get the electron beam to move fast enough across the entire screen in time to prevent "flicker" or incomplete images/frames being displayed. they could only work it with small tubes (like the ones for projectors and to some extent computer monitors); in fact some later model high-end projectors can do higher than 1080p.
with 1080i it skips every other line so it really only has half as many lines to do per second than 1080p would. but our eye usually can't notice the difference, so it can get away with it
...Nothing looks as good as CRT's any expert can tell you that. but crts are so hot and heavy that people dont bother any more.. when you can get a sexy slim lcd or led or oled or whatever...that has almost an equally good image...one day a manufacture is going to bring back crt.... and blow every one away.
I have it, and I have yet to see any tv beat it, I just wish I could get one that was bigger without it weighing a tonne.

I have its 32inch brother the KV-HR32 .High Definition signals look f*%king fantastic on these Sony televisions.
Pity Sony's flat panels don't look as good as the CRT. Oh the onboard speakers are pretty good aswell.
I see the weight of these sets as being an anti theft feature, No burglar will be able to nick it .
