  • must be a union shop to have 2 guys removing busted studs..

  • Fail.

  • that's the worst way every meld a scrap nut on it two seconds and back it out with a ratchet.

  • @ALEX62592 Wait... If the head of the bold sheared off, what makes you think a nut welded to it won't just shear off too?

  • @Scruit you weld inside the nut then or weld a washer on then weld the nut on. i have done it before when it was broken flush off

  • @ALEX62592 You still wind up withthe shank fo the bolt being the weak spot.

  • @Scruit never failed for me using that way. just do a couple of good tacks on the washer then the nut.

  • @Scruit , exactly! weld will break off too

  • can u heat with a propane torch?

  • All you faggity ass experts make a video. lol

  • You spent 3 1/2 minutes removing a stud that the StudPuller would have removed in seconds without the danger of a torch. The science behind stud removal is getting the stud to rotate instead of creating a mechanical bind, which occurs every time you pull sideways on a stud with any type of wrench. check out studpuller com and use proper physics.

  • @cameramonkey2~ exactly!

This was the worst way of doing it! They would have warped the flange.

They already have a welder, why not just weld a nut on?!

  • blake smith

  • He shoulda done this, he shoulda done that! He got he fucking stud out so STFU.

  • lol you pussies make me laugh with your comments and suggestions. Who uses a torque wrench to remove rusted bolts? Who the fuck cares if the guy is wearing gloves?

  • idiots

  • That will work just as well without the wax. Cant you see at that temp the wax isnt even reaching the flange of the manifold its vapourising. Buy a vice too. Stop abusing your workers.

  • fark u guys need to wear gloves! ure hands are gunna get fuuucked. im a plant mechanic i wear gloves all the time. otherwise hands are allways torn, cut or burnt lol

  • thats why you throw that crap in the trash, and get aftermarket ones :D

  • Comment removed

  • that is retardet, just cut that stud off, drill hole there and put there just bolt and nut.that is how we do in Europe.

  • Dave shows how to do it properly removing the bolt off a crankshaft pulley watch?v=Kvfko3kp-zg at 02:05

  • I would have welded on a nut on one stud, move on to the next and weld on a nut, then to the third stud. By that time the first stud will have cooled down enough to apply the wax. In the video most of the wax just went up in smoke. Poof.

  • rEAL FIXES usually show the best techniques possible, but they made an ordeal out of this instead of doing it quickly. THIS IS WHAT THEY SHOULD'VE DONE: gas or mig weld a 9/16 nut on the end of each stud so they don't ruin the teeth of the Knipex pliers. Most of the wax the kid used just vaporized. He tried it when it was too hot.Let it cool down some, and THEN add the wax. That should do it, but if it doesn't, apply heat to the flange, let cool, add more wax, and unscrew the studs, boyz.

  • @TheKeyboardKowboy~ these guys use 18th century techniques! lol

And why the heck did they use wax instead of something like WD-40, which is PENETRATING lube!! Knuckle heads.

  • get a nut abd weld it down the threads a bit, then use your scented candles to use as a lubricant and make the manifold smell nice for the ladies

  • How about getting broken glow plugs or seized glow plugs out of a duramax 6.6 head?

  • @bks1979 soak em in pb blaster or deep creak and then light tap to let it drip into rust.

  • hot wrench works great. Careful doing this while its still in the truck - really hot metal flakes falling in your face from the bolt while removing it with sharp-toothed pliers. Better to weld a nut one size too big on the stud close to the manifold and use a deep socket to get to it. The welding itself helps brake it loose (lots of heat)

Wax really did seem to help that last time cause the temp dropped some so it didn't just vaporize - find a wax with higher vapor point

  • Is that header off an Lt1 by chance? I was just working on mine and it looks just like that

  • WAX..... WORKS SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN EVERY KIND OF WEASLE PISS OUT THERE

  • Kinpex is the $hit, I love em got it from my Snap-on tool guy. Some good quality German made tools not that Chinese $hit junk.

  • Snap On, KD Tools and other brands have the awsome stud removal tools for situations like this. I have the KD set and its great. Totally worth buying just to have in the box.

  • Once heated, turn out the broken stud until it gets a little hard... then turn back in just a little, repeat the process and it comes out without damaging the threads on manifold... and without having to keep using the torch.

  • PB BLAST AN A TORQUE WRECH! so much easier...

  • Way to not remove the 02 sensor. I bet it works perfectly now. Fail.

  • @FuKUg00gl That o2 sensor is exposed to that much heat every time the car is run. FAIL yourself.

  • @FuKUg00gl o2 sensors are cleaned by heating them with acetylene torches. Gool to school and learn something. FAIL

  • Snap-On for the win.

  • Or you could just use an air hammer. Or a press. Or cut them out...

  • @sweetlikeADAM Sweety pie, I remember your uninformed comments from other videos. OBVIOUSLY the stud is threaded into the manifold, so your idea of pressing, or hammering is ridiculous.

  • @realfixesrealfast I have a 1994 Caprice lt1 I need to do a exhaust manifold replacement next week. I asked a shop how much they would charge me just to remove the 3 bolts and put in new ones so I can replace the manifold myself once I get a new one-They told me $80! How much WOULD you charge for something like that seeing that you made it look so easy?

  • man i used vise grips made it worse.

    good info thanks

  • Kimpex? It's called Knipex. It's a German company. check out knipex.de

  • @aseglkj my father bought one of these 20 years ago, they are still like new :)

  • Nice trick...most of the time if you use heat while the nut is still on you can avoid all the hassle

  • You were tightening it. Never mind you cut the heads of. My bad.

  • @jimisback Yeah, I think they know what they're doing.

  • You were tightening it.

  • u dont need a wax.just heat and studs extractor,or just good wise.

  • NO MORE SNAP ON

  • try getting that O2 sensor after 80,000 miles

  • This is gonn'a be fun

  • I`ve got a pair from MAC there called Parrot beak channellocks they don`t slip at all don`t need to squeese either better than those I gave back my pair like those .

  • Personally I prefer quenching with any sort of spray oil and using vice grips, but hey, the important thing to use is the good old blue wrench!

  • wouldnt it be easier if you use intaction heating machines and better if you remove the oxygen sensor from the excaust?

  • neat, it's kinda like sweating a fitting, except instead of drawing solder into the joint you're pulling in a lubricant.

  • they could just grind it off and then punch it out!!! but great video

  • @TheFucYeah If you punch it out you will wreck the threads inside the manifold!

  • ear wax maybe!?

  • two thumbs up!! thanks for the vid! really helped me take out a snapped/ seized/ rusted bolt on my rear trailing arm on my car! Good technique!! Thanks again!

  • that guy is gonna have some arms on him by the time hes got all 3 out.

looks like the wax works the grips were so close to shredding the stud so I recon a nut welded on would be best.

  • @jonesmw01

didn't think about that xD because what i did was replaced the whole thing

so new hardware was the way to go for me

  • its all fun and games when its on the bench. its a whole different ballgame on the car!

  • ha ha ha... way to hot, the wax just evaporate dude !

I'm bored of those "Hey, look like I can't do it proprely" videos... :/

  • @Bazuzeus Well, Dwayne looks to run a successful shop, while you booger eaters sit and bash on him.

  • Heating expands metal, which essentially results in just the opposite of your desired effect. Plus your helper pulled the bold all the way through kind of like the old western movies where the wounded cowboy pulled the arrow through. The problem is that is there was a flat area at the top of the bolt (maybe yes, maybe no), you would be threading that to get it on through. The easiest way is generally back out the way it came in, turning the bolt in the opposite direction. Anyway, there's my view

  • 3 hours later.... 1st nut is out....

  • safety first guys i dont see that dont act like pros and get burnt or something else

  • why should fixing cars have to be this way they couldnt use some other kind of bolt stainless brass we still have to do things that our grandfathers did sorry mess

  • An easier way instead of tapping on the stud and tapping on the stud with a hammer is weld a nut on it first. You can use a socket or wrench to turn it easily. This does work.

  • Grinder and a drill would be easer.

  • Wax? There's an idea.

  • OMG, I hate having rusty broken bolts.

  • I've never used wax.. just heat is up red hot.. Or welded a nut on the end of it. That was what... $1000 job?? lol I should start my own garage... Over charge the hell outta people who don't know no better!! haha

  • @rangaman86 Its not about over charging people, some mechanics do that but for the most part its not easy or fun to do. so if you dont wanna do it then pay someone who will...Thats all there is to it.

  • weld a nut on the end and use the impact, easy fix. he will charged you per hour anyway.

  • what do you do about a head bolt that goes into an aluminum block?

  • or you can do what i did and just go to the auto parts store and spend $6 on new bolts/nuts

  • i did this job 1000 times.u realy need more heat.it very easy.

  • I'd remove that 02 sensor first.

  • @FrankiePintado +1. O2 sensors are fragile little critters

  • Too bad the average backyard mechanic don't have all the tools necessary for this job

  • @guayacan07 what some grips and a fuckin candle

  • @eastyg and a torch and cylinders filled with gas

  • @guayacan07 you dont need a gas cutter like that just a blowtorch

  • @eastyg the torches with the gas tank what bbq's use don't put out enough heat. As a backyard mechanic I'd cut both ends with a hacksaw and drill whatever is left to make a new hole.

  • @guayacan07 well as a backyard mechanic you shouldnt be such a jew with your money and get the right equipment

  • @guayacan07 and you have all the equipment?

  • Great technique! Worked perfectly. Thanks a lot.

  • IM ABOUT TO DO THAT TOMOROW THANLS 4 THA HELP

  • just grab the stud with your fingers and unscrew the damn thing. sissy

  • how do i get broken exhaust bolts out of a cylinder head??? please help me! do i have to drill them out?

  • Good vid.

  • mechanics dont get payed what they desearve

  • @CrashBandikoot7 some dick head in an office sits all day doing easy brain work and gets payed a bit more and doesnt break a sweat.. very sad

  • fuckin a guys, thanks alot, i have that same damn problem and all the auto shops say buy new manifold, well the hell with them!

  • Great vids, keep it up!

  • pipe wrench would have been your best bet.

  • That would be a full days job to get all three of those rusted suckers out!.

  • @dgl1962 weld a nut on the stud end , even if nothing is sticking out , the heat from welding is enough... not need to remove exhaust ... sorry guys you made your self a lot of work , but it still works , no such thing as can't ))) and yes some PB as it cools

  • i bought a pair from sears for like 20 bucks and they do work better than vice grips

  • matco has one exactly like it. have you taken a broken head bolt? thanks for sharing, great video

  • snap on i have the same pair

  • What brand are those channel locks? Look sick as hell

  • scented candles.....hahhahhaha or pig fat....no no bacon....throw some bacon on that bolt....it'll cook it in the process

  • Great video fellas, thanks for taking the time to make it. I have used a torch lots of times, but this is the first time I have heard about using wax. It really looks like it helps.

  • can you use scented candles?

  • @lateboy4

    No,your wife will kill you

  • @lateboy4 haha

  • @lateboy4 oh god that was a good one. thanks lol

  • @lateboy4 obviously that would depend on the flavour!

  • Very helpful! Hope it works on my motorcycle head! I've got a broken exhaust stud.

  • @jet79637 hi , did u get the stud out of ur bikes head ? if how plz , i wanna my bike back
