JUst a couple of days ago Trans State Airlines terminated all the nightshift mechanics here at Washington Dulles. I saw the whole thing unfold when TSA did this. They were terminated without warning
Make mad money! Sorry No. Have all the glory? Again, sorry but no. Make sure the airplane operates correctly YES! This is what we do. We make sure the planes are safe to fly and ride on. We fix everything from a magazine spring pocket spring to the engines and airframe. We make sure the airplane flys safely even when the inflight entertainment is not working properly. What is more important? Movie or safety?

its all about pride in what you do I earn 41.07 per hr been with united 19 yrs and i do not have a MAGIC PEN just do the right thing peoples lives are at stake when you have this kinda job no room for the greedy bs ers fakes relo rob.
After almost 20 years in aviation, I would not do it again. People don't care about safety , all they care about is money. I,m so tried of being harassed about pencil whipping inspections. If one of my kids wants to do this for a living I,ll knock them in the middle of next week
does the aviation industry really sucks that bad? i was thinking aout going into aviation but i dont wanna do anything stupid. after all... why work when you can just be a bum? lol
Hey Florida Mike ,are you still there? If you are you must have a magic pen. I'm in the biz forty years and well respected., I'll just bet I know some one who knows you. If anyone thinks for a minute this is a good career choice they're nuts.
im currently going to teteboro school of aeronautics. learning alot. im learning right now about the general. just started school still need powerplant and airframe schooling and license. does anybody know my teacher.
I'm an aircraft maintenance technician in Hungary, doing heavy maintenance for airlines, and I recieve $5/hour. Doesn't pay well in this part of the world.
Justambehr, apparently you have not even an elementary grasp of economics. The increasing fuel prices have resulted in over 6,000 layoffs in the commercial aviation industry as a whole (including mechs). Traffic is down, and the industry is in crisis(losing billions), ask any CEO, let's just hope crude continues its decent, but I wouldn't count on cheap JetA. Most in the industry would agree that the current enviornment is worse than it was following the Shock of 911.
actually dear, the FAA predicts over 80,000 job openings for mechanics by 2015 and there is still an increase in air travel. Sure there are lays offs dumb dumb, but the mechanics are the first to be called when they start hiring again. Everyone is getting laid off not just airlines! People dont just stop flying, regardless of the recession, people still FLY. I have a very good grasp of what goes on fool, I work in the industry!
Try $18 to $30 dollars an hour at entry level position. A&P mechanics are in high demand especially since gas prices are so high and more people are flying. Great career choice.
I'm not sure if you meant an airline pilot, but be careful what you wish for.
Do your research. My opinion is, spend less money going to Law school or Med school, and you will get paid well. If you like flying buy yourself a small plane. Airline lifestyle sucks and it doesn't pay well anymore.
yeah, all that resp. for crapy pay.....look the other way.....most companies only pay like .50 cents an hour to work midnight shift.....Don't choose this career!
