  • "yeah, heya there, Petey" :D

  • Velvet Underground tuning!

  • What a bloody good story this is!

  • Being a guitarist of 37 years now, I can safely tell you that using a tuning like that is anything but "juvenile, infantile, not professional" but on the contrary is actually ingenious. For those of you learning guitar, keep your prospects OPEN. Learn to play EADGBE, of course, and respect the beast that is guitar, but PLEASE... keep it open and use tunings. Experiment. Music isn't about playing it the same way all the time. It's about playing it differently every time! Expand the magic 6.

  • haha this is awesome

  • always loved this song, Love the Beat , saw Ranking Rogers version of the band last year and they were cool, however Imagine trying to do a selection of David Crosby tunes, that guy uses so many exotic tunings you would either need a different guitar for each song or a really patient audience. think I'll stick with my standard tuning.

  • What a great trivia story. Can you imagine getting a phone call from Pete Townshend asking how to do your song? I love the way Dave jokes about it ! What a true HONOR ! Also Pete always gives great tribute to the Beat when he perfoms this song.

  • wonderful story. saw the beat last night in cardiff (fronted by ranking roger & ranking jr). inspirational! prompted me to dig out my old beat records. truly excellent stuff.

  • What a cool interview. I can't wait to see him play at the Port of LA Lobsterfest later this month.

  • Great interview; I really like Pete's Deep End rendition of Save It For Later.

  • What a great story!!! I miss the eighties, but I think "Save It For Later" might be not only one of the best songs of the eighties, but one of the best pop/rock songs ever. The best part is that Dave seems really cool and approachable. God Bless accessible rock stars.

  • Wow, great interview. Missed them in Atlanta recently , had to work that night :(

but Just Can't Stop It is in my Top Ten fave albums... just great stuff...

  • Wow!!! I was at the townshend show at the Wiltern. I am assuming it's the samd shows of which he dave speaks. It was during the Psychoderelict tour. P.T. did the entire album, with actors playing the speaking rolls, and then an encore including Save It For Later. our seats weren't as nice as Dave though!

  • Pete T. does a great cover and I recall his story about Dave's Tuning before a live track I heard. Its fantastic to hear Dave's side of the story how many years later.

  • Dave just made my day today by playing Folsom Street Fair here in San Francisco. I danced my butt off, and sang along to songs I knew from my teens. Now that I am 41, the lyrics to "Save It For Later" hit me much harder than when I was 16. I cried when Dave closed the set with it today. No wonder Townshend covered it, it is a deep song, and stands the test of time.

  • i wish Pete Townshend would call me up

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey I just saw the English Beat this Saturday night 3.29.2008 at the Canyon Club in So California ... EXCELLENT show as usual!!! This was the second song they played :O) ...

Actually, it was Dave Wakeling I saw, Dave Wakeling & a bunch of other guys who pretended that they were English Beat ... But to be fair, the show really was awesome. They played nearly 3 hours. People filled the stage up, it was packed, it was GREAT a really exciting show for sure.

  • i saw the beat in detroit feb 20...awesome...Dave made fun of me as i stood with my arms crossed in the front row..i looked bored but was actually quite happy....

  • thats like the exact same thing that happenend to my sister except at the 930 club in DC on 3/1

  • I really don't think Pete was making fun of the tuning as the interviewer suggests.

He found it novel and loved it. He's played "Save it For Later" quite often live and seems to be a big fan of the Beat.

  • he was confused as to why it would have two strings the same and when he played it live he still got it wrong.

  • @EuchridEucrow1 I agree too! Pete Townshend does a great cover of Save It For Later and loves The English Beat! Great response!!!

  • What a fuckin' great story.

  • Dave is just THE SWEETEST Rock music artist I have ever met(and one of the most GORGEOUS)! I really have loved every single live performance I've seen of his(and I've seen PLENTY)! Dave never fails to chat with his fans after EVERY show, and that's something I've seen very few artists do over the many years I've gone to concerts-he's THE GREATEST! :)

  • Thanks You Tube and where is taht beautiful girl Dave had for; "I'm Having Your Baby"...one of the prettiest tal girls WHO COULD DANCE I have ever seen

  • This is an extremely rare clip of Mike Halloran not talking through 90% of an interview. Teehee....love ya, Mike.

  • Hey Thanks for uploading these new videos.I have really enjoyed hearing these interviews and have one of my guitars now tuned to DADAAD.I think Dave is a really cool guy who has a great sense of humour and I love Save It For Later, it's one of my all time favourite songs.
