The Milkanovitch Cycle is a well known cycle of glacial/inter-glacial periods. Its driver is our proximity/angle to the sun.

Our current warming cannot remotely be explained by this cycle, nor any other natural cycle. The most obvious and well-evidenced source of our current warming is human-induced increases in atmospheric CO2, almost DOUBLING over merely a century.

The Carboniferous period was marked by relatively LOW CO2 levels, not high. Solar irradiance was lower also.

The Cambrian period had a solar luminosity that was around 6% less than today, the Ordovician period came after where luminosity was around 4.5% less. ...the science clearly states that ice/snow is far more reflective of solar radiation than open water. Open water, by itself, is NOT a trigger for glaciation. Open water ABSORBS radiation and re-radiates it slowly as long-wave radiation which is then trapped by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, we've increased atmospheric CO2 from 180ppm to almost 300ppm in roughly a century. It's not difficult to imagine the consequences, and the deep atmospheric physics/science backs it up.

Social safety nets actually do the opposite... it takes from the rich/powerful elites and gives to the poor and some to the middle-class and small business owners. As for Al Gore and his documentary... it was actually quite accurate. There was ONE judge in the UK who was essentially forced to rule against the movie but ONLY for a handful of slight inaccuracies, hardly the damning errors for which the propaganda slams Gore for. Please research it... even those "errors" can be completely understandable when put into context and some turned out to actually be true, despite the lone judge's ruling.

An Inconvenient Truth serves best as a general introduction to the issue of Anthropogenic Global Warming. You can sit there and poke fun at how they used the Simpsons to demonstrate simple concepts, but actually, that's how teaching is best accomplished amongst a mixed crowd which is largely new to the hard science of global warming. Aside from that, the film was proven to have very FEW errors, and nowhere near the amount that deniers like to pretend. It was largely accurate.

As for the hockey-stick... it's accurate. The notion that it was somehow BS or proven wrong is a total lie, another example of disinformation by industry-funded denialists. The REALITY is that subsequent studies have actually STRENGTHENED the hockey stick graph and its implications, with only SLIGHT changes in some minor datasets/trends. The MOST mis-matched graphs I've seen come from the denier camp... almost EVERY TIME, and if they're not mismatched, they're misinterpreted.

You really need to check out this youtube series called "Climate Crock of the Week" by Peter Sinclair. It's actually incredibly accurate and impresses me every time. I've watched the series, and it's a very intelligent, in-depth, no-BS debunking of denier myths. The best part is that it uses the ACTUAL science to back up arguments. I've taken the pains to read through a SHITTON of reputable scientific texts/papers/sites, and came back to the series even MORE impressed by its depth.
