This exercise is really awesome!!!! I don't understand why i didn't do this for all these years!!!!! I discovered it too late!!!! I did always situps and stuff but i never felt anything more in my abbs till i tried this exercise.. a felt it a few days!!!
@Fadur2 Exercise for mid and lower back, abbs (obliques and rectus abdominis). These are major core muscles. And peripherally: hips, shoulders and neck.
this could have easily been a 1-minute exercise video... with 5 minutes of this guy talking... I love it when old people talk... they've got the best stories and the best jokes!!!
That sounds like a great workout John, do you do any running or any leg work like squats in your workouts? thanks again for your great information, take care.
Many thanks, I train every day for 40 minutes to an hour. I do 15 mins. dynamic stretching, a lot of pushups on bars. I do a kettlebell workout once a week (16kg.) and do Turkish getups everyday with the kettlebell. About 80 rollouts including 20 one arm; not perfect yet. I don't do many standing rollouts at the moment but would like to get to twenty, can't waste too much time at 73! I have a TRX ssystem that I intend to use much more. regards John
That is amazing, Im 52, and John your in great shape, if you dont mind me asking what is the rest of your workout like, how many days a week do you workout and what other exercises do you do? Thanks again for a great video.
This is really inspiring thanks so much for sharing. It is so motivating that I embedded it on my website at leanprimalfit I hope I can be in as good a shape as your dad one day. Awesome
Well thanks for this. Just as I got all proud of myself for doing 12 I see a video of a guy like 3 times my age doing loads more and getting so much closer to the ground with each one too. Is he a mutant? Cos that would make me feel better.
Sigh, back to the wheel grindstone.....
Seriously though, that guy is awesome!!!!!! You see 20 year olds with worse muscle tone. :D :D
well I really love this vid! a 71 y.o. man who is probably more fit than the average 30 y.o. guys. This man is a source of inspiration, and I would love to know more about the way he sees life. Great work, thanks for posting.
u r a beast...im 39 , and would not be able to half of what u did!!!! great job!! beware i have my ab roller , and im gonna work up to what u do , ...i figure,,,,,,,,1 year ??? maybe 2.
I sepnt 6 minutes watching that thinking that he was a fitness freak from the US and then started hearing these lovely northern (English) accents made the video even better!
Being that fit and able at an age where others are already falling apart, sedentary and powerless is a true achievement. I wish your father another 50 years like that and beyond.
Standing ab roll-outs are my favorite core exercises. I aim to be a fit man well into my 70's, too. Congrats to your father. Major kudos. And to the poster who asks what's the point--you, sir, will find out when you're 71 and can barely roll out of bed.
@deerstalkerm3 Well, know that this clip and this man have lit the fires of a great many people, who greatly appreciate and seek to imitate his acheivments, which show that age is mrely a number, as Jack Lalane used to say. He is living proof of something that I am seeking, God willing: to be strong, healthy, and energetic in old age. I imagine that he started his development fairly early and that he maintained his training regimens.
Are you serious? You don't get the point? With the most respect I can muster maybe it is because you have a light grasp of the human body. Go spend some time doing body weight only training with boxers, MMA athletes and I think you'll find your weight training has not done as much as you think for your core.
Quantification - There are quite a few core strength and stability tests on the web. If your only goal is to look good and/ or lift more in squat, bench, etc. then you could probably care less about rows.
If you're looking for strength, flexibility and endurance in situations such as martial arts, boxing, climbing and daily life activities the core can be extremely important.
As you know people set goals to measure progress, maybe their goals are not the same as yours.
Thanks for the effort of the reply. I quantify the functionality of my "core" by my ability to do physical tasks such as lifting weights/running/sports.
People interested in a six pack would quantify it by looking at their abs. The only people who would quantify it by these "tests" or number of ab wheel rollouts. Is people who want to be good at the tests and ab wheel rollouts. Neither of these things can guarantee any crossover to real-world physical tasks.
Thank you for the comment. A little body control pilates, plenty of pushups, stretching. Not too much food; very little red meat, fruit, cereals, yogurt daily. No alcohol or smoking. Take care
Awesome muscles John! Keep up the training :) We want to see a push-up video too :P Love from Cyprus. Kemal, Kenan,Cemal & Anne.. And the TAÇ of course :)
And he has the smaller wheel that is way harder than those larger diameter wheels!

Well done to the man, but may I ask what the value in such an endeavor would be?
Wouldnt it have been more valuable to work up to a similar number of chin ups or a 300lb+ squat ?
I dont really get the point.
