The food enviorment is the result of bad information over the last half century. Read Good Calories/Bad Calories to learn about the bad science that has existed for the last half century.
ok simple solution, get your kids in a martial arts of exercise class (i do judo) on week days try to keep it light, you can eat food thats not health just dont eat too much then on week ends let yourself go, let them play videogames, or better yet buy em a skateboard, exercise is exercise even if he might get hurt maybe even try to get him into bodybuilding (well thats how i go, im not a parent kid)
In my opinion, the amount of fat kids in the USA is a real poor reflection on this society in general. Parents feed their kids crap, kids live off junk food, soda, chips and all the other crap. I see parents feeding their kids soda and donuts for breakfast....well I guess it is ok because it is low in fat, sugar is good. When I was a kid there was one fat kid in school, that kid by todays standards would not even be fat. I think that lack of discipline is out of control in this country...YUCK.
I watch less TV in an entire week than many do in a single day. I have done some things that can scare couch potatoes, namely riding a bike on a busy street. When I was at my old home, I often ate figs, apricots, and plums which grew in the front and back yards. This is in Sunnyvale, CA, which used to be orchards. On potluck days, there was a brief (5 minute) harvest to prepare.
it's all up to the parents....it is not McDonalds fault, it is the parents! They are in control of what their kids eat, wear, do, and who they hang out with...then they go whine about how their kid is out of control....HMM, gee, i wonder who caused that, YOU the parents!!
We can't teach the next generation what we don't know. Blaming anyone does not solve the crisis at hand. Only through education about nutrition will we help end the current health crisis.
put blame where it belongs...the parents. educate the parents, not the kids. if the kids grow up with responsible parents, they will in turn also be responsible.
the parents should have been educated by THEIR parents...I am not gonna buy the excuse that the parent isn't to blame for their kid's downfall just because they had a bad childhood themselves...NOPE sorry...I know MANY people who had absent mothers or alcoholic/abusive parents who parent their own kids perfectly. They figured it out, and I have come to the conclusion that the people who remain bad parents are just flat out lazy and irresponsible and truly do not 100% love their childeren.
My younger friend weighs OVER 200 POUNDS and he is not even 12. He is huge, and when he eats, he eats the worst foods possible! He tried to lose weight but he gave up because he thought it was hopeless.
I bet he only gave it a month before giving up. Fatness is very much linked to depression and lazyness, and the feeling that you can't acheive anything
I live in Japan and I'm 55 y.o. I went back to L. A. recently and saw two very obese teenagers. I thought to myself that I'd never in my entire time in high school seen anybody close to as big as those two kids were.
yeah, most countries don't really have fat people much, but you go to the UK or the US and they're everywhere. I work in switzerland sometimes and it's very hard to find a fat person anywhere because they're culture is so much better orientated towards health and respecting yourself.
yes but the people living longer and dying of old age now were born before WWII. He's talking about little kids today, and that their live expectancy in years to come could drop...

I agree with you. But who's responsible for educating parents?

Statistic show people are living longer. Much longer. How is it you can say the kids won't live as long as the parents?
