it was 1975 but you can find here all the clichè of 80s heavy metal: starting riffs followed by drums and bass, screaming, lyrics about angels demons and monsters, satanic covers. It's quite "mono" of course but absolutely magic and absolutely ante litteram! Thanks Judas!
@TheTurtleVillage it had a few good songs, The Sentinel and Freewheel Burning being my favourites... Sad Wings of Destiny, Stained Class, Ram it Down and Painkiller are my top favourite albums by them.
@TheTurtleVillage I never listened to it as much as Sad Wings of Destiny or Stained Class, it felt like a step-down compared to their previous album... Diamonds and Rust being the only memorable song I remember.
@mujuma I think it's a great album, but the sound quality kind of brings it down. Sinner and Starbreaker are my favorites though. But I agree with you about painkiller, sad wings of destiny, and stained class, except for Ram it down, which is probably one of my least favorite albums.
@mujuma Yeah, no problem, man. Youtube arguments are a dime a dozen. But those definitely are the worst albums, then there's "turbo". Can't say I'm all that crazy about Nostradamus either, but nothing beats the classics.
many people say Led zeppelin created heavy metal , others say black sabbath , others claim it was deep purple ... in my opinion i say Judas Priest created Heavy metal !!!! and i'm seeing them on september 30th with whitesnake ....
I respect your opinion, but I still believe Black Sabbath started it all. Their first album came out in 69' or '70, and there was literally nothing like it at the time. Even the title track to their first album was so far ahead of its time. Zeppelin were never metal in my opinion. Priest were creators as well, but their first album had only traces of metal on it, and it came out in 1974. This album, Sad Wings, is where they really became who they are.
@Brewzkier really ?? sabbath ?? i think it should be , between sabbath and purple, they both are from the same era , and i agree with you on zeppelin , they never were metal ......greetings friend
@ultimatemanofwar But Led Zeppelin, even the name influenced heavy metal. The immigrant song influenced viking metal and their LOTR imagery and mystical lyrics was also a great influence and made them great. Page was a great guitarist and Plant a great singer. Not hard core metal like we think of it now but one of, if not the greatest rock band ever.
Black Sabbath created Heavy Metal, but Judas Priest made it heavy. Look at Tyrant, Victim of Changes, Dissendent Aggressor(riff far, far ahead of it's time), Beyond the Realms of Death, Exciter, Genocide, Rapid Fire, Priest made Heavy Metal heavy. As far as Maiden, they were after Sabbath and Priest, doing what was already done in a different way.
Good points. Dissident Aggressor was definitely the heaviest song out there at the time. That beginning scream had to be one of Halford's highest ever, and you're right about that riff. Even for today, it's a crushing riff. That song is still heavy today.
No, I don't mean the solo. I mean the rhythmic patterns, i.e. all the other things going on during the solo, resulting in that tight punching rhythm. There is more than solos in songs.
@miffolol every Judas Priest album is great (at least from '75 to '90), but this one has to be the best. I agree, though I'm often conflicted as to whether "Sin After Sin" should deserve the title of best album, with great songs like "Dissident Aggressor" and "Let Us Pray..."
But shouldn't the lyric be "CAPTOR of humanity" considering the rest of that chorus has words describing who the Tyrant is rather than what the Tyrant is doing?

@TheTurtleVillage each to their own and thankyou for at least accepting my opinion, unlike the majority of Youtubers.
Ram it Down has some of my favourite songs, I love the Speed Metal feel to it...
Their worst albums would be Point of Entry, Jugulator and Demolition.
