I have a question. My Russian teacher and I went to a concert of Russian music.She introduced me to her friends, parents and colleagues. All spoke to me immediately "HA Tbl". I was always told to speak to a new acquaintance "HA Bbl" and let them ask for the switch to informal. What gives?
@VarvarA56 After asking my teacher later as to why these strangers addressed me "Ha Tbl", she told me because we are in America, the speakers understood that we do not have formal address for each other. I always address strangers Ha Bbl in Russian
Hi there! Yes indeed, it can be neglected by some people. Some people don't pay much attention to it at all.. especially somewhere in country areas. But it's okay and usually it seems like someone really finds themself feeling familiar with another person.. And I believe it also depends on social origin and education.
I don't hear much difference between the Russian term for "thank you" and the term for "please". They both sound like bazhalasta. Can some one please help me tjo understand this?
@aviationgrade Yes, we use "pojaluista " in both cases, we use "please" as "you're always welcome" and when we ask about something "could you please give me a glass of water?" Anyway don't think a lot about it, just remember: the same word in 2 different situations..
i want to give thanks to special people that are producing a very joyfull work that is helping many people who want to learn russian... special thanks to you all
i love the way you say your name do you spell it EVEGENIA? because theres this girl at my school who spells her name like that and i just cant figure out how to pronounce it :P

@ColKorn1965, When you turn on ты - answer ты. When you refer вы - tell вы. To treat strangers to вы. It is a sign of respect)

Говорите "Ты" как все. Хочу вам сказать, что мне сложно незнакомому человеку говорить "Ты", первое общение всегда на "Вы".

Я вас любил: любовь еще, быть может,
В душе моей угасла не совсем;
Но пусть она вас больше не тревожит;
Я не хочу печалить вас ничем.
Я вас любил безмолвно, безнадежно,
То робостью, то ревностью томим;
Я вас любил так искренно, так нежно,
Как дай вам бог любимой быть другим.
