This song is actually from the Last of the Mohicans, where it is known as "the kiss," which is in fact but a version of an earlier recording by Dougie McClean, where it is known as "the gael"
Kommos has a point - the celts are very much associated with trouser wearing. the celts were essentially the early inventors of what became Scottish tartan later.
Sorry to burst your bubble of knowledge Iseult01.... the kilt is worn by Scotsmen, not Scotch. its an invention by none other than an English man. back in the day a Plaid was worn by Highlanders. a 14 - 16 foot long garment which was worn for all weather conditions but often too much in hot weather. the kilt was a fashionable more managable modern creation. Scotch... pfft.
Maybe, but it's still a mystification. The original invention of the Celts are the trousers, and also the ancient scotch people used to be dressed with them. It's obvious, at least thinking about the weather of the Highlands. Probably Rawlinson took something that was already in existence to make it ridiculous, but he launched a fashion that it's historically wrong, and now it's perpetuated by the scot's people himself!
The trousers originated with britches (shorts) that were once worn under the kilt it a man were working up high, such as upon a lader, so his nakedness would not be seen.
This also is recorder in the Ancient scriptures of the Bible.
Nearly all men wore a kilt like garment at one time until the homosexual french men burned the bible, declared No God (noel), and took off their kilted garments to go about in their britches, their underwear.
Pants (trousers) are just a modified form of underwear
Actually, study the facts - the Celts wore a robe/kilt like garment. The "great kilt" originated with Scotch highland men. the trousers came into play later, and orignated in England I believe (but def not Scotland). England kept trying to make the Scots wear trousers. It's ok that you don't know the history, but you should prob look up the facts from something other than wikipedia next time before you go blathering about something you don't know.
The ancient sources, starting from Herodotus, passing thru Caesar, Diodoros et alia, always talk about the trouser as the peculiar wear of the celts. The "kilt" is nothing else that the tipical shepherd workwear, dressed over the trouser itself. You can find it in a lot of other ancient celts tribe, like Germans, Sardinians, Balcanic Area, North Italians celts...
Before go blathering about facts you don't know, you must study a little bit more history.
iseult01 and kommos- As a Scot I find it weird to find an italian and an american arguing about the origins of the kilt!! - talk about two bald men arguing over a comb?

I'm amused! But I really don't understand why brave scottish people still use the kilt!
It was invented by the british lord Thomas Rawlinson in the XIXth century to laugh at scottish people, and was not in use by ancient highlanders... The Tartan is an original texture, but the kilt not.
Wrong! The kilt was around way before Rawlinson, all he did was take something already in existence and alter it to his own aesthetic liking as well as what he thought was more practical. Studies date kilts to have been around in the 1600's, long before Rawlinson's little endeavor. Some of these original kilts are still around, as well as carvings of Scots in short kilts from before Rawlinson's time. He stole the idea.
