  • Best tutorial I've seen in a long time, great work!

  • This video provided me exactly what I needed for selecting my subject and their shadows and how to deal with the edges!

  • hi

  • Hi Mama,

I have been following your tutorials for a year or so, I think your an amazing teacher. Great work, please keep it up :)

  • magnificent. thank you very much

  • Peoples likes these tutorials and that but i don't your voice is annoying and you take way too long to get to the point :/, you can take people of their backgrounds in like 2 mins :)

  • THANK YOU MISS I LEARNED A LOT

  • this is scary!!!

  • Great tutorial! However, there's way too much high midtones in your voice, and virtually no bass at all, which makes it quite awful to listen to. Just a tip for future tutorials.

  • уберите эту хуйню на хуй

  • how should i get photoshop for free download any site you known

  • @Monstergurpal You can get a free 30-day legal trial of Photoshop from the Adobe Web site. If you're asking about pirated versions, all I can say is beware and that's not the right thing to do anyway.

  • @photoshopmama nice accent, how old are you

  • @Monstergurpal get a subscription to a newsgroup, get grabit. goto altbinz.info and search photoshop cs5, select the item you want to download and goto create nzb, tada

  • @Monstergurpal piratebay org

  • @cookiepwnsU why? just why?

  • @Monstergurpal if you are a student you can get a student edition with is about 10% the price of the full licence nad the program is full nothing is taken out of it, you can use it to learn.

Or you can buy Photoshop elements for less than 100 dollars I think!

  • @catalin205 lool spelling disaster! :))

  • @Monstergurpal Descargalo de prueba 30 dias en la pagina de adobe y luego descargas un crack por internet que te lo ponga como original eso es todo.. gratis

  • great tutorial, thanks so much

  • Shan,

Thank you for an outstanding tut. Question for you: I get banding when

applying a gradient over a white background slip layer. Is there a fix for this?

  • @cruizin31 Yes add a bit of Filter>Noise - Monochromatic to a pixel based layer that has the gradient on it.

  • in need the pic of this tutorial and thanx 4 the tutorial

  • @NO1ONE1LIKE1ME Sorry can't do that. I only had permission to use the pic for tutorial not for distributing it.

  • that was a long tutorial - but so worth it. Thanks for all the info. Great stuff!

  • I love your step by step..I am a newbie to photoshop..straight to the point..two thumbs up

  • good work.

  • Thanks mama shan, i was looking for this method for the past 2 months!!!!

    You Rock!!

  • nice tut thanx

  • it totally reminds me of chroma keying in vegas =D

  • Perfect...!!!

  • lovely

  • Very informative video. How sad that after almost 20 years Photoshop is still unable to automaticly extract a subject from a white background.

  • it's not only Photoshop, it's today's computers... PS is capable of doing it, i'm sure it would require lots of processing, because you have to include essential human characteristics as reasoning, looking at the picture in a subjective and abstract way as well as applying common sense to it, so it's a web of skills that we take for granted but they are really complex, of course PS can do a lot of work we thought it would be impossible, like Context Aware Fill, or Stitching Pics (pan)

  • thanks for another great tutorial

  • Thank you soo much as alwayz!

  • Moma as always you are the best... this is great stuff, great tips... this would look great if ran through the lollipop now

  • very nice work thank you!

  • Once again.A very informative video.Thank you very much

  • thanks..this tutorial will help a lot

  • this is a load of info thanks so much! your the shizzz izzle!

  • Thanks Mama Shan! ..You're truly amazing.

  • amazing mama.......i love u

  • I love you Mama now I can edit my wedding picture's background :)

  • Maybe and maybe not. Like I said it doesn't work with all images. If your bride has a white dress and the background is white, this particular technique won't work.

  • great vid mama....thanks!

  • Sure use the lasso if you see this as too complicated. It is creating a more accurate selection than is attainable with the lasso. Plus there's never just ONE way to do something. I try to cover ALL things available in Photoshop in my vids. This helps folks understand concepts and function and goes a bit deeper than just the lasso tool.

  • Sure, there may by other ways to do something, but there is no one answer to all situations. Thanks photoshopmama for a very informative tutorial. I would say an extraction would be much better than a lasso, but how would you get the shadows? How does you lasso get the shadows?

  • Another nice post :)

  • yeah can we download this pic i really like the background

  • I contacted Dave and understandably he is not going to release his image. Surely you can find a similar one with a model on a white backdrop to experiment with this on your own.

  • Sorry, I only have permission to use the image...not to distribute it. You'd have to contact Dave Strydom, his link is in the more info area.

  • 1st class tutorial... thanks for posting it!!!

  • More time & awesome result !

  • very useful,thank you

  • i dont even have photo shop but i still watch all the videos

    beacuse they're cool

  • Cool tip on using Levels on the mask to close it in a bit. Thanks for that, and I think this will save me a lot of hassle in the future.

By the way, where is your accent from?

  • My accent is a combination of East Coast and Midwest with a little Southern twist.

  • Thank you.

I'm interested in recognising the different US accents.

  • Mama = Yoda

  • Your comment me thanks you for. Love Yoda, I do!

  • Great Tutorial Mama. True mother of photoshop. I cant wait till the next one!

    Thanks

  • Wow! I'm Impressed every time. You must be a Delta or Zeta lol!

  • Mahalo Mama for another informative vid...always a pleasure to view your tuts. Thanks for taking the time to make these as I know how long they can take! I will try this one for sure!

    Aloha to you~

  • Wow, that was an awesome tutorial!

You had me laughing on the floor when you said:

"You can do radial, and hit reverse, or not"

    Haha

  • That's what happens when I shoot from the hip...never know if it's going to hit a target! ha!

  • Thanks for the Great tutorial :]

  • always love your tutorials. thanks again for this.

  • Super , Super ... Super Cool !!!

    Thanks

  • Like anything...if you do it enough times it becomes second nature. Using it and teaching it is repetition. Like cooking...I don't use recipes, once you've got the basics down you can let your creativity infuse the basics to create a variety of good eats! However...baking is another story...I don't do that enough and so I do rely on recipes.

  • Thanks, Your tutorials are fantastic.

Do you do anything with illustrator CS4?

  • I use Illustrator off and on, but I'm not enough of an expert in that software...not like Photoshop. Photoshop gets jealous if I spend too much time in any other software.

  • How in the world do you remember all this stuff?

  • great, tnx!

  • Hey Mama! Thanks Mama Your the Best!!!

  • Very nice I just wish I had photo shop. lol

    Hugs!

  • nice

  • Nice tut ;)
