I think karen should be considered to have the most beautiful voice in the world when you take into account that she used no vocal acrobatics whatsoever. even barbra streisand used them, albeit brilliantly.
It's funny in the beginning when John looks around then the music starts u can hear the piano before he even touches it. Like he's startled. Haa. Karens voice will forever live!!
I've been surfing youtube for the last half hour hoping to find a reincarnation of you, Karen! But it had been nothing but excruciation! Why can't we all grow old together Karen!
Thanks so much for your comment, I think she did know how much everyone loved her but I think she took on board criticism more then positive comments, she must have been very fragile mentally to treat herself the way she did, its very sad, society is to blame to a certain extent for what happened to her, but i guess she had issues and i'm sure she would have got over them but her body had had enough.
What's amazing is she can act as her own backup singer too, changing the tonal quality of her voice from lead-vocal to softer harmonizing with Richard (noticeable in the pickup line "the one who loves me"). She was a great talent.
Nobody can sing a ballad the way the great Ms. Carpenter could --- when she originally recorded this song for thier 3rd Album titled "Carpenters" she actually took a pillow into the recording booth with her and laid down on the floor as she sang the vocals to capture a realistic portrayal of a drepressive mood in her vocal interpretation of the song
Your welcome and glad you found that tidbit of information on Karen interesting. I am a devote Karen fan here and my brain is full of all sorts of Carpenter trivia so if you have any questions about her and are looking for a source to pose querstions to -- feel free to hit me up anytime as it is very likely that I will know the awswer!! And I couldn't agree with you more on the comments you have made about Karen yourself in your various posts -- her tallent is finally getting recognized
my god, that was outstanding. Who else sings sincerely, and passionately like that? Her voice goes a lot of chiaroscuro in it; it's both loud and soft in all of the right places, and very profound.
You are joking, right? Sure, karen had a very pure voice, but to say that she is the only (female?) vocalist that sings "sincerely and passionately"--that is absurd. By that logic (or lack-there-of), Joni Mitchell, Crissy Hynde, Carol King, Carly Simon, Ella, Billy Holiday, and on-and-on........... had/have passion or sincerity. You really need to get out more/listen to more music (especially vibes outside of the schmarmy/easy-listening that were the Capenter siblings.
Thanks for this post! I'm inclinded to believe that the accompaniment here was prerecorded, but I'm confident that the singing was not, as Karen's lead clearly varies from the studio version.

She truly meant the words she sang, and that is what is so tragic. What a beautiful angel. God bless you Karen!

There is one - not the same but will occupy you for ever.. Search Marta Kubisova - Czech singer and Karen's European contender.
