Goosebumps right then and there, Scent of a Women (Al Pacino won best actor for it instead of Denzel) is one of my favorite movies, but in no way did Pacino do a better job than Denzel here.

This was a performance to blow all biographical performances out of the water. But the truth is...Hollywood likes Denzel, but Malcolm scares them. So they robbed Denzel, and gave him the consolation with Training Day. It's unanimous that Denzel should have won with this one.
I think it's very telling and says a lot about the Oscar Award Decision Makers that Denzel Washington would win an Oscar playing a rogue cop and not his roll as Malcolm X, that Halle Berry would win an Oscar for her role as a white man's concubine play thing. Everybody I talked to said they believed this was Denzel's finest acting. It's also a shame that Spike Lee didn't win an award for the many movies he directed. The man is a genius.

You're looking at Denzel Washington as Malcom X and Al Paciono as Slade in Scent of a Woman, not too mention Robert Downey Jr. as Charlie Chaplin. I remember in class she once laughed about how in the industry they used to call "Scent of a Woman," "Whiff of a Film" for how fucking little plot there is.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and although discussion was never based around the film's plot, I will say in my humble opinion, when compared to other films Scent of a Woman is not a magnificent script. But their is an interesting dilemma between the characters and the progression of Frank Slade's and Charlie Simms relationship is really well done. IN MY OPINION.

I agree with the statements. Denzel, should have won an Oscar for his role as Malcolm X. He received an award playing a cop, something that white men have been know to do for years. And he did play a rogue cop very well. One day in the near future, people will receive an award on the work they did do. I can’t wait for Spike lee to make a movie about Jesus and other well known movie.

If you watch footage (and hear the recorded speeches/talks) of the real Malik El Shabazz, it's uncanny how intensely on Denzel was with this. This was a performance to blow all biographical performances out of the water. But the truth is...Hollywood likes Denzel, but Malcolm scares them. So they robbed Denzel, and gave him the consolation with Training Day. It's unanimous that Denzel should have won with this one.

I think it's very telling and says a lot about the Oscar Award Decision Makers that Denzel Washington would win an Oscar playing a rogue cop and not his roll as Malcolm X, that Halle Berry would win an Oscar for her role as a white man's concubine play thing. Everybody I talked to said they believed this was Denzel's finest acting. It's also a shame that Spike Lee didn't win an award for the many movies he directed. The man is a genius.

You're looking at Denzel Washington as Malcom X and Al Paciono as Slade in Scent of a Woman, not too mention Robert Downey Jr. as Charlie Chaplin. All reached the maximum potential in their respective roles. It is impossible to make a decision like this without upsetting someone. How can you compare different roles both equally compelling and believable. Be appreciative that your favored choice was nominated.

I remember in class she once laughed about how in the industry they used to call "Scent of a Woman," "Whiff of a Film" for how fucking little plot there is.

@cometrally I don't believe I ever referred to the film's writing or plot. I only referred to Al Pacino's performance. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and although discussion was never based around the film's plot, I will say in my humble opinion, when compared to other films Scent of a Woman is not a magnificent script. But their is an interesting dilemma between the characters and the progression of Frank Slade's and Charlie Simms relationship is really well done. IN MY OPINION.

They didn't want to give him a bsa because somehow that's less of an award. Remember denzel won just 3 years prior, likely the same reason de niro didn't win in 77. Lee didn't win because he is pig headed and incapable of playing ball, he should take lessons from oliver stone. Its never a good idea to take on an icon like Eastwood.

Scent Of A Woman, we'll have to agree to disagree, but I understand why people prefer Pacino's performance, I'm not denying its quality, but I like to stand on the side of performances that people will always remember and talk about, Pacino has had far more worthy performances that he could've won for than in "Scent".
