The only good dimmu borgir record was their first record. Other than that, they are just a product. I feel that almost all black metal acts lose their touch after their first record, besides Gorgoroth and Burzum in my opinion. Mayhem died with Dead in my opinion, I love maniac but Grand Declaration of war didn't have Euronymous's riffs, hate the fucker but he was damn good at guitar

I really Dont agree with people who think this is the best Black Metal band out there, but if it is YOUR opinion than it is all that matters. I think, to me the best atleast, would be bands that sound raw like Immortal, Mayhem, Older Darkthrone, Burzum, Marduk. But i do like me some Dark Funeral.

I am so glad people think they are an expert on what Black Metal is. A good example would be Under a Funeral Moon by Darkthrone.. That was recorded in a pretty high production studio, and they used those facilities to form their sound for that album - and that is now one of the biggest cult-albums of the genre.

Guys try not to forget it was Dimmu that released Stormblast. Sure they have changed but Is that a bad thing? Honestly the music is not that bad people just can't get over the fact they became popular. "Kvlt" is the dumbest idea ever. Anyone who says this isn't true black metal hasn't got a clue what they are talking about. This may not be as raw as Darkthrone or early Gorgoroth but it's still kvlt as fuck. The riffs sound so damn evil. Just listen to the riffs at 1:30 and at 2:10 in particular - I fail to understand how any black metal fan could listen to this and then fail to get that beautiful feeling of utmost blackest evil, the kind that only bands like this and the aforementioned two bands possess. @mario64PKmetalhead I know this was not towards me, but I enjoy answering questions like this. To me, anything that reaches a major metal festival such as Ozzfest, Mayhem fest exc. Is about as mainstream as it gets for me in metal aside from the gimmies such as Pantera. There are a few bands that make it to HeadbangersBall that I like such as Chimaira and Devildriver. Wacken fest is what I think is perfect. Lots of bands where you have heard of and know their stuff but not played every 20 min.
