The point of Glee covering the songs is NOT to try and upstage the original. Glee is a show about a GLEE CLUB. They are supposed to sing the songs in a way that allows a new generation to enjoy the songs. and they DO that very well. In addition, Glee cannot cover a song without the original artists permission to do so. If the original artists allow them to sing it, then listeners should accept and respect that decision. If you dont like it, then dont listen. Its as simple as that.

Do you really have that bad taste in music? Finally glee doesn't have to get the original artists permission, they have to get the record company's permission which they do by paying royalties. It's the same way they can use famous songs in commercials also for the same purpose: to make money!

Sure, no one could ever be as great as Journey (especially during the era of Steve Perry) but the Glee kids breathe new life into the song, modernizing it for the new generation. I think it's great in its own way. :)
