I love him because he plays! He is really playing! He's always been playing. He combines his immaculate technique, control and discipline with a childlike joy here. He is really having fun. Even his brooding songs are fun, and what is more fun than experimenting? Which we all know he is prone to do. God bless him, I really feel like I learn something from his art.

Sakamoto is always good for a surpise. Hopefully, there are many yet to come.

It's more than amazing how he rearranges his songs again and again in a stunning way. Where others merely "recycle" their music, Sakamoto draws new inspiration from the richness and deepness of the original composition every time.

I actually think his singing is pretty nice. It's..natural. It isn't a perfect pop voice, nor is it astoundingly beautiful. But it is simply the natural voice of any person who could carry a tune but has no astounding vocal talent.

This is from "Beauty" , it's a traditional song from Okinawa. I saw him perform the song in Duesseldorf in the early nineties and with female backup singers and a full band, the song was still closer to the original. Adapting it for a classical trio is certainly pure genius, and his singing is adequate, this is a folk song after all. I can see how this music might be difficult to understand for many people, maybe listening to the album version of the song first might help.
