@MangoDaVille There is a band (music essayists) titled Beach House. They reference much of this sound... I suggest you take a listen to their song d.a.r.l.i.n.g Thanks for your talent. Aregato!
@hh1n I know the feeling ~ when I first heard it, the song took hold of me body & soul! Glad someone else enjoys it as much as I am enamored of the piece! Aloha, Johnny
Hi myerscough1, the accompanying track in the back was done on a small, inexpensive synthesizer called a QChord made by Suzuki. The entire song is enchanting! Mahalo, Johnny
Beautiful song and guitar. What type of double neck is that. ALOHA (as in love) the playing Johnny, I hope to be seeing (and hearing) more from you! I have a request for a song if that's ok.
Hey Will I Am the Musician . . . glad ya like Hana - its an incredible composition by a great writer. I'll do a vid in da future of Song of Old Hawaii - - now that song truly captures the feel for the culture and work ethic of Hawaii - - it is really a moment in time for Hawaii and Hawaiians - - beautiful and meaningful. Song of the Islands is somewhat more commercialized whereas Song of Old Hawaii is the ultimate Hawaiian song. Mahalo nui loa! Johnny
Oh and sorry, the double neck is a National Steel Guitar Console, circa 1957. However, while it may sound ok I don't recommend them - pick ups tend to lose the highs during some performances. The ultimate dream steel is a Rickenbacker, preferable 1930's made of bakelite, 8-string B model. Very costly but they have sustain and tone and are in high demand. Also, Fender Stringmasters are cool, again 8 strings. Double necks of course. Keep rippin! Johnny
@jpstenino Hey JP - - man, thas a whole lotta space to harmonize! Ha, ha - - you be too kind brah! Mahalo! and sorry for da long delay in responding. Johnny Pal
Yes, he is a hot blues/rock steel player. Saw him on Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival CD. They turned him down cuz I think he was blowing everyone away, ha, ha. Thanks again! Johnny
Yes, I agree withyou on that juice thing. It also made raised my brothers blood sugar. The Big JC said it hasn't helped him yet so he is thinking of trying something else.
It started off with a bang for me then leveled off. What I am doing now costs me nothing and am experiencing little "cures" here and there. After several months I'll report what else has happened and will let you know. Luv, Johnny and Panchito
Whatever it is it needs to get lost! I am trying some pretty interesting treatment now and noticing subtle changes. If it works successfully I'll get back with you. The juice thing has gone by the wayside and its also too expensive. Johnny & TC
Hey, where you been? ha, ha. Man, back issues are a gas!!!!!!! To You Sweetheart Aloha is ready for the camera. Its next up! You're gonna like it. Panchito has a little director's chair and he directed it. Thanks for asking! Johnny
Hey, me and Panchito been workin on that one. Comin up pretty soon. It is a wonderful tune and made more magical played on the steel. Johnny & Panchito!
The first part of Hana is played in B11, the second part is played in C6, then ends in B11. Duke went all out on this and I think he garned several awards. It took me a heck of a while to learn this correctly. The tuning for B11 is (low string first) A,B,C#,D#,F#A,C#,E. C6 is tuned ACEGACEG. Watch my video for the positions and it will save you a heck of a long time and headaches to figure out. I had to ask Duke how he did it. Keep in touch brah and will discuss more. Johnny Pal
Mahalo JP. Thanks for the tip . Just got a double 8. It has just been laying around. Been playing 6 strings ever since I started. I think you are right on target with your focus on playing a double 8. There is a lot of power in a double 8
It took me a while to figure it out. All the professionals play at least a double 8. Hope to see you in Joliet October 8-10. Check out the HSGA website. Mahalo and Aloha
You know, I worked that one out a few months ago but never performed it. We'll see if we can't pull that one out of the attic. It is a great song. JP & TC
Oh boy Panchito, Welcome back!!! I have been waiting a long time to hear that. Now one of my Prayers are answered for now, well keep up the nice work, cause Johnny Pal and I need you out here.
Hi Johnny, Oh this is a beautiful song. You certainly do it justice with the steel. I'm trying to catch up to your new videos, and enjoying the trip. How is Panchito your little pick holder doing? Gloria
Thanks Gloria for the positive comment. Panchito is a handfull, a world class rascal. He'll never behave. I'm hoping that his sometiming girlfriend, Ms. Piggy, will straighten him out. Ha, ha, funnin as always, Johnny Pal
Thanb you Serafinpol for the very supportive comments. I am in my second year of steel. I'm a converted guitarist. You sound great on the steel! Looks like you have spent a great deal of time on the instrument. Again thanks and let's stay in touch! Johnny Pal of Mango DaVille
Ha, ha, we are waiting for the call! Thanks EB/CP for your always kind remarks. Panchito is still homeless. I think we're gonna put him in the soup next week and cross our fingers. He looks presentable in the videos but in person, uh, not so much so! He doesn't seem to care though, he's still quite the rounder and big flirt. Take care. Johnny & Panchito
