That would be unforgettable seeing dave+jeff playing this classic song and great guitar riffs. When i was a wee boy and i went to the disco on a friday night this song was always the last of the night,we always gave our bird a winch (or vice versa) after this Those were the days at the 'shuffles', in Glasgow.
I LOVE Jeff's comment on this in the liner notes for E&C.
"I played the RAH recently, & one of my guests was David Gilmour. Before the show, he asked if I was going to play "Hi-Ho Silver Lining'. I said "Absolutely NOT." So, he asked if I would mind him singing it.
In the UK at least this is arguably the song JB is known for & I love the fact that he hates it.
I read on wikipedia he didn't write this?! Is this true?! Jeff's a complete legend regardless to whether he did though! I saw him play this with Eric Clapton on Saturday, best moment of my life :D!
Is it a catchy tune? Yeah somewhat, but I can totally understand why Jeff hates this song. I find it funny that this song is still popular in English bars & what not. I agree out of mere curiosity that is Jeff did redo this song if it would be a hit. I still think that with all the people that Jeff has worked with over the years if he were to do an album with guest artists singing a la Santana's Supernatural I would do quite well. But have a version of this song on there FOR SURE!
@TNO73 Jeff should have heeded Harry Belafonte's advice. If you don't like a song, don't record it. Coz if it's a hit, you'll be singing it for the rest of your life.
The young pretty lady in the black dress is the great Imelda May who Jeff Beck discovered. She is gonna be the next big thing, mark my word she is talented and has a style all her own. I think they should redo Hi Ho Silver Lining with Imelda May doing lead vocals, Beck is guaranteed to get the single to #1 on the charts after 44 years! Ha!!
Nice video, very steady cam too. This is one of my fave songs of Jeff and I fondly remember him doing it 3 nights in a row at SF's Cow Palace Arms Concert. Dec 1,2,3rd 1983. Fantastic guitar heroes!
Dave and Jeff hang out and play together a lot, they must be good friends.
