  • Never get tired of listening to this music, brings back a lot of memories! Thanks Lalah!

  • Whoa! This song sounds just as good as when it was first released in 1990. This is a song that you can never outgrow. Once it gets into your system, you can't get it out!

  • Thanks for the post big up's on this one

  • Talk about memories, this song bring back those moments of when music still had that fazazz. They would always play it and on almost all the radio station throughout the shy town.

I really was in search for love back then just like i am today, but i've learn that it comes and goes especially when it doesnt start from the heart. i'm guessin the music is the same way today, it's all about the dollars, but people like her, Dr. York, Anita Baker, Lilo Thomas, to name few took it to another level.

  • I STILL LOVE THIS SONG!!!!

  • wish there was an instrumental for this i love this record...brings me back to childhood.

  • do you have the remix???? I do but it's on a cassette of all things!

  • I love this song from Lalah. It is truly a classic. Reminds me of my buddy Lori from North Carolina whom I lost touch with. We used to jam off this. Lori, where ever you are at, this one's for you!

  • Oh one of my very favorites

  • LALAH FIRE YOUR PROMOTERS BECAUSE THEY ARE SO NOT DOING U JUSTICE. IJS

  • R.I.P Donnie Cause Your Baby Is ''GREAT"

  • YEA LUV ME SUM LALAH.I WAS STILL IN SCHOOL AT DA TIME.I HAVENT STEARED AWAY FROM HER YET.AND PLAN ON DOIN IT EITHER.

  • I remembre this song but, i never knew sho song it. Lalah can sing. WOW, she has the power in her voice to pull you in & take you on a journey the is enjoyed.

  • Raminds me of the beach have been in love yet! 2010!! =)

  • Wow! I haven't heard this since 1990/1....I was mad young but I remember hearing it on the radio and liking it. Hearing it now is taking me back and making me feel a certain way. (And I had a crush on her! I always liked 'em older. LOL)

  • I REALLY LOVE THIS SONG SO VERY BEYOND , AND ITS VERY RELAXING TO MY EARS. I DO NOT THINK ANYONE ELSE COULD SING THIS AS GOOD AS LALAH HATHAWAY DOES .

  • @marimaijohnson LOVE IT

  • was introduced to this song by my mother when i was younger than 10 now im 17...still loving it..thanks mom!!!!!

  • I used to love this song so much she has a beautiful voice, now this is real talent like her Dad Donnie . Real music from back in the day

  • Did you know that this song was first recorded in "85 by the writer/singer Jaki Graham from the U.K.? Jaki's big hit in the US was called,"Round and Round"!

  • this song reminds me of the good old days (when i was a virgin) LOLZ

  • this song is 4ever!! just perfect!!

  • i love this song ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • now this is what'choo call music!!!!!

  • this is my SONG......!!!!!OMG

  • @flabby212 _ Mee too...eu adorei..!!

  • There is only one man I can delicate this to. I love this!

  • i still love this song.even after so many years later...love me some lalah.

  • Thanks for posting. Brings back memories.

  • hey everyone I simple love lalah. Even though this is a wonderful song, the best one in my opinion is stronger. I can't find the video. can someone help. thanks

  • Listen to the song.....smooth everything. What happened to music? Where did it go? Fot the up and coming artists, go back to the 80s and pull up any genre of music and study, especially the vocals and lyrics. Dont worry about musicianship, who plays anymore?

  • one of the rarest female singers to do it good everytime

  • My jam back in junior high

  • @TrueVintageRnBFan my jam in college

  • Makes me miss the early 90s....From an outstanding album by an outstanding artist. This is wonderful music to listen to on a beautiful afternoon in the city, such as here in LA today.

  • Soul It's The Real Thing!

  • Who ever and what ever inspiration made this, made the milk I grew up on, man o man

  • At 16 years old i enjoyed this song. Even today it still sounds good.

  • my mother bout this cd when I was about 16 or 17 yrs old, and I used to listen to it all day and all night. I love Lalah!

  • I remember this, girl it's still a jam. Love U Lalah!

  • This song is timeless. The CD is great and so are her others. I just don't understand the music industry. We can hear Beyonce (a great performer and artist) all day long, but what about the REAL singers out there???

  • THIS WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS IN THE 80"s

  • Lalah has the depth and quality of vocal skills that is missing in music today...a better management team and she can STILL blow these wannabees out the box!

  • My first encounter of this lady's music was the summer of 1990...I was the general manager of my campus' radio station. When I got her promo and played it.....LOVE AT FIRST HEAR. Been in love ever since.

  • This song along with the photo shown on this post made me fall in love with Layla. Great song, great memories.

  • loved this whole album and wore it out back in the day

  • Classic tune :-)

  • Saw her Thanksgiving weekend in Oakland at Yoshi's for the 1st time and WOW !!! One of the most authentic voices of our time...LIVE !!! NO SIGNAL PROCESSING !!!! This woman can BLOW ! Flawless voice...

  • Yes, she is a vocal goddess...pure talent in her own right....father was music, she is both!!!

  • Love this song, Lalah was one of the first voices I fell In love with.

  • I use to love the heck out of this song. She is so pretty and sings as good her daddy Donnie Hathaway. The 80's had

real singers, entertainers and meaning about songs. Today

the music is lame and materialistic with no real direction.

  • @Ellasings7 Steady.. she is pretty but in no way, shape, manner or form is she close to singing as good as her dad. Donny Hathaway is one of the cornerstones of American rhythm n blues, pop, and soul music in the level of MJ, Stevie and Marvin Gaye. Let's not go overboard here.

  • @Ellasings7 You are speaking my words ,thanks for sharing!!!!!!!

  • @Ellasings7 True dat!

  • i had this and it was stolen along with a s--t load of other nuggets thanks for uoloading ...tuuuuuune

  • hey poster snap, i was 16 that year 2 and this chooonn was a very memorable summer classic, although's hot summer night house parties! vry good times x

  • I absolutely love her voice she inspires me to y music. Loved ever since the 80's my husband sent me your album. You are my favorite artist

  • Even though this song was released in 90, it was so popular for a long period of time it was still topping the charts into 91. Such a soothing song with a beautiful message and it still sounds great to this day!

  • She has always inspired me to be the best vocalist I can be. My favorite female voice, hands down!!!

  • i had this cd.

  • Can anyone tell me if the 04 show Billie and me {staring Chrissie Hynde and Lalah Hathaway and Amy Winehouse} was ever on audio.

I have 41 secs of Amy Winehouse singing Aint nobodys business if I do from the show and its perfect quality.

  • easily one of my favorites from lalah and the 90's!

  • ndobva ndafunga Circus thoz dayz!! that was a club n a half!!

  • Fantastic double thumbs up Soul for real

  • Soul forever. Girl kicks it and that bassline grooves.

  • S*&t with sugar is the truth. Donny has the only song that puts me "Christmas" mood, then his baby girl comes along & puts the SOUL back in soul music. LUV U Lalah.

  • Hey Warrior, u are sooooo right! IT IS NOT CHRISTMAS UNTIL I HEAR 'this christmas'--donny hathaway's version. Nobody else's will do. I am a BIG fan of Lalah's!!!!!!

  • I love this version better than Jaki Graham's original song. Wonderful!

  • This was produced by Derek Bramble,Jaki's producer too!

  • Both versions we're Produced By Derek Bramble....!

  • Her voice is a straight gift from her pops Donny- a legend.

  • people think jasmine sullivan got it well layla been had it

  • Love both versions (Jaki's & Lalah's). Always thought that Jaki's is more original and Lalah's is easy to dance to. That's why clubs played Lalah's all the time. Miss those days - DAMN.......

  • IT ALL DNA BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is just a great song some prefer Jaki others prefer lalah am I gonna sit on the fence or say which version I prefer does any one really care ? the fence has just broke it's Jaki for me.

  • As far as i concerned this song belongs to lalah.played this song to death back in the day. Album of the year back thenx

  • no doubt LOL

  • I remember sneaking my walkman into class playing this when I was in my freshman year of high school. Those were the days. What is this shit they're playing now?

  • I can tell ya what they are playing now.....shit with sugar is still shit, thats all they paly now. If real music came back, it would kill them.

  • Tell me about it! My nieces and nephews always clown me about listening to old music, and saying, "Auntie, you need to get up with the times!" I'd rather get up with "Good Times" the show, than this shit they play today!

  • Its so sad that our kids have to grow up without any music that will stand the test of time. i can put on New Edition today and put alot of the groups that are out todat to shame. I am so glad that my girls love Mint Condition.

  • Tell me about it. When Marvin Gaye or the Isley Brothers sang about "Sexual Healing" or getting "Between The Sheets" it was much more of a cleaner nature than shakin' ya ass, ready to hit the strip clubs and makin' it rain, and all of that other bull. What we grew up on was much more respectful than what is offered to our children today. I'm so glad the kids in my family are so focused on the Disney Channel!

  • LOL...Disney Channel. My baby girl is 10 and knows every show on Disney, and every so-called artists on there. Those songs that you mentioned have more meaning to me now than they did 27 yrs ago, when i was 13. Now that i am 40, I appreciate them more, I just cant find a female friend who was into the 80s music......thats why I keep replying back to you....lol. I really miss the old Prince music, now that was my type of thing. Sign o' The Times and back, 80s stuff. Thats all me.

  • Just like almost EVERY song MJ ever made, it's the same with Prince! LOVE THAT MAN! I have his very first one from 1978 titled "For You". And I also have his second with the classic, "I Wanna Be Your Lover!" I'm 34 now, and i'm the baby of the bunch of my mother's children, and my first cousins, so I always listened to what they listened to. The songs of yesteryear does have much more of a meaning to us. Everyone has their era of music. I'm just glad late 70s onto early to late 80s were ours.

  • Girl......A Prince fan?!!!!!! That alone makes me want to marry you....lol. It is very rare that I find someone who knows anything about Prince. A mature person knows what to do with old Prince music, the right time and place.

  • LOL! I remember when my boyfriend and I started seeing each other, he was looking through my cds one day and saw that I had some Prince in my collection. He was like OH SH*T! THIS IS MY N*GGA RIGHT HERE! And usually, alot of guys I know always talk and laugh about how Prince is fruity with his "butt-out" pants (they were so ignorant!). I don't care if he has the characteristics of an apple! If the talent is there to keep you supporting their music, then that's a true artist!

  • Thanks for your comments, here is another song you can check out and let me know what you think. Tellin Me Stories...by Big Bubb

  • Aint no music around these days. We sunk so low we can only sing insults in anger at who???

  • Your so right ,we were so spoiled with such classics as this that music of today has no way of matching the glorious 80s,but unfortunately todays music reflects alot on the way society is, beam me up Scotty take me bake to the 80s.

  • i love dis song i heard it of me uncle

  • yalla yalla

  • love this song!!!

  • We definently need music back to this way.

  • This a cover of Jaki Grahams 1985 song but what a cover...She completely made it her own...

  • Sunny days for U-Jay in the early 90s........you wan try!!!!! who no know go know!!!!!

  • I love this girl! She has a beautiful and unique voice.

  • lalah hathaway rocks this is one of my all time favorites

  • can music eva come back 80s/90s way?

  • Doubt it xxxLady77. Won't that be dandy. Trust me, lots of people wish it could happen. That's why WE still listen to the 80s & 90s classics. Long live old school.....

  • I luvvvvvvvv this song!!!!

  • hot to death! this song reminds me of the fall while i was in art school!

  • I like both. But i remember this one more.

  • Aaaah, summer 1990. Good times!

  • Nice cover version but I prefer the original version by Jackie Graham (a great black - british singer) done in 1985

  • I went back and listened to the original and Jaki was pretty good but Lalah is to Heaven Knows as Whitney is to I Will ALways Love You...........I belongs to Lalah after this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I totally concur. She made hot records after this one, but nothing like this Jazzy B/Soul II Soul influenced sound at the time!!!

I'm glad she still looks good for her age. Alien butt sex...claro que si.

  • This is my all time favorite jam from Lalah. Everytime this song would come on, I had to adjust the bass because this song's bass is so powerful, my speakers would almost shatter! She's an icon for us R&B heads!

  • She's dope and her pops was the man.

  • thank you so much

  • Soothing & soulful...Thanks!!!!!

  • My Jam!!!

    Thanks

  • I did all the editing on this song back in September 1990. Yvonne Turner did the mix. It was weird because I was also working on Whitney Houston's "I'm Your Baby Tonight" that first week in September 1990 (also with Yvonne Turner). I never knew that Jaki Graham did this song back in 1985. The only song I knew & loved by Jaki Graham was "Round And Around". This must be the album mix because I worked on the 12" mix which had heavier bass & drum overdubs.

  • What was that experience like??? I could only imagine. Thanks for that info.

  • It was great working with Lalah Hathaway

  • Shaynesealy,

you use to be the song back in the day i love hearing this song to this day. You did a great job, she has a great voice just like her dad. Heaven Knows she has a great voice. IF i hear the song i will start to sing and dance like crazy.. can i find this video on here. carleton martin

  • Yes. I was also a big fan of Donny Hathaway. Especially his recordings with Roberta Flack like "You Are My Heaven" & "Back Together Again" both from 1979. Awesome album. Also "God Don't Like Ugly" produced by Gwen Guthrie who is no longer with us unfortunately.

  • @ShayneSealy Great insight! love the work.

  • @ShayneSealy trust me this was massive on the Zimbawean/Zambian dancefloors,a super hit,on dancefloors in London,New york,Lusaka,Harare.

  • @ShayneSealy I had to reply! Being a producer and engineer, that whole experience must have been bananas! I do freelance music supervision for FOX sports and ABC (Jimmy Kimmel Live) while producing my own band (K3 da Konjourman). I hear the stories of the older guys talking about the 80's and 90's it's just Crazy. Head sound mixer at Kimmel has been working since the Ed Sullivan era, his stories are the greatest. check Michael Greggs or Roze Bowl Music Group at linkedin dot

  • @K3daKonjourman Yes. Remixing & editing songs back in the late 1980s & early 1990s was a great experience. Its so different today. Is Fox Sports and/or ABC hiring any audio guys like me right now?

  • @ShayneSealy are you based in LA area? You know how sporadic everything has been over the past year and ahalf but things are opening up this year. I can submit resumes for u with the in-studio production crews at FOX and ABC. At least you can start trying to get in the sub-rotation. Are you in the union? E-mail me resume and references to k3dakonjourman at gmail and I'll definitely submit for wherever your qualifications cover.

  • @K3daKonjourman OK. I will email you.

  • @K3daKonjourman Don't know who u are but I like u. It is always special when others support those in need or who have dreams. I pray u be blessed.

  • this is just my opinion. i did listen to the original, and a remake was definitely in order. thank God Lalah remade this song. it's much better than the original and much more uplifting. the original is a bit of a downer. lalah's version is refreshing. just my opinion.

  • i love this and have been searching for it. thanks for posting!

    3. Heaven Knows

  • What a great song from 1990, one of my favorites from that year, or any year for that matter. So smooth and easy, its sound just melts into your ears, and her voice is so soothing, outstanding!!
