My husband is the unfortunate Ducati rider. His RC51 track bike was in the shop, we were in Cali for a sport bike road rally, and he had just had high-compression pistons placed in the Ducati, he was taking it a bit easy on his beloved street bike. The idiot mechanic put one of the pistons in backwards and the engine seized in turn 4.
BTW, he still rides, and is 3 seconds off lap record at Firebird. Sell your bike after a close encounter? Poser
@Rocketchiq - Wow lucky your husband chose to take it to the track that day & had it seize up on a nice safe track. Imagine what might have happened on a public road - had it locked up mid corner with a truck coming the other way. Nice riding by the camera guy and the 998 looked great thru the bends... enjoy.
@theduke76 Absolutely. We were in cali for a road ride, and decided at the last minute to go to the track day. We go back every Thanksgiving to ride with the same group. We both do our playing on the track these days much more than on the street.
We just opened the new Inde Motorsports Ranch with TI2TT (Take it 2 the track) this last weekend, and it's nice to see that we all have another new place to avoid becoming road kill out there
His ankle was swollen, but we were at the dealership where they just fired the mechanic who put the piston in backwards, and buying his 1098 2 weeks later.
We only take the track bikes to the track now. :) His track bike was in the shop for that ride.
Sws Sportrider wasnt the camera guy...... The bike was a Z1000. And Yes Pete, the rider is a very skilled rider. You should see his son. Now THATS fast!!!!
@SWSportrider It amazes me that anyone can hold it together in that situation on such heavy bike and not bite it. I've never seen a digital speedo on a ZRX but I like it.
Terrible technique by the duke rider, he looked a bit rattled and was riding above himself.

That was an awesome save by the camera guy. I crashed there in 2008 and broke my right leg(tib-fib break).

Yup, that thing seized right up. There's really no recovering from that.
The guy on the camera bike did an excellent job of avoiding the guy, and keeping his own bike upright.

Sold your bike the next day eh? Wow...dedication.

Man, I guess you get what you paid for. Should have bought a real bike, not a POS Ducati.

Yea, you're worthless.
SWSportrider, did you hit the rider? Close call either way, hope he's alright and nice job keeping it upright in the gravel.
Chaotic8 3 years ago
Agreed. The camera bike is a ZRX 1200 with a very proficient rider on it.

Nice save by the camera bike! Most would have binned it in the runoff.
