Thanks. It's hard to say what the "tripod to hand held" ratio was. An equal mix of both. This was Tri-X film, which is silent. All the sound was designed and sync'd later.
Ah, I see. One of the things I like about super 8 is that even when you shoot from a tripod, there's still a little wobble because of the plastic pressure plate. It makes the film a little more realistic, I think.
Very good. That gives me hope that I can shoot a film intending to add foley later... thanks for the help!
mr. Ghormley isn't haunting anybody or anywhere! he had a heart attack in his cabin. but every time i go to this camp the camp director always tells scary stories about this cabin. ironic how it's at a christian camp.
This was shaping up really well. Don't know about the music score but I suppose it had a certain compulsiveness to it which helped set the mood. I know film makers don't thrive on entirely positive comments which is the only reason I am critical about this piece at all.
Ok, now I *must* watch the rest! Ijust added this to my blockbuster queue, can't wait to see this story unfold (hoping it's in Fangoria: blood drive II, at least that's what the imdb claims). Great job with this short film!
Ok, the dvd just arrived in the mail, so now I've seen the whole thing. Incredible. Awesome job, Steve! I'm still trying to figure it all out ;^) This is a masterfully told story.
I was fortunate enough to see your film when I reviewed it as part of the "Fangoria Bllod Drive" compilation. ( I used to write for Monsters at Play.) It was far and away the best of the shorts and, quite honestly, still the strongest horror short I've seen in years. Glad to finally see some more of your work posted! Love that Super 8 aesthetic!! I'm posting a video response as well... but it is quite silly compared to the genius of "Gibbering..." Keep in touch! Bradley
Hey Bradley..thanks for the kind words. Your review was also greatly appreciated (I re-printed it on my now out-of-date website)....especially the flattering comparison to Maya Deren's work.
this is really good. when i posted my little super 8 film, i started looking around at some other 8mm horror films on here, and yours is definitely the best. i actually found a lot of similarities in our films...good job.

Creepy? Not really. Horrifying? No. Pointless? Yes.

I love Anakrid's music. It's nice to see it put with film. I plan on claiming him to put sound to my creations in the future.

@EyebrowTrimmers
Couldn't agree with you more. Anakrid's music is incredible. Check out my short "Dirt Dauber" for even more Anakrid creepiness.

Thank you. It was based on a reoccurring dream I had, so you could say that it is indeed authentic.

Excellent. I like it, and it certainly freaked me out.
Question: How much of this is on a tripod, and did you shoot sync sound, or dub it in later?
