  • Dude, you should explain everything step by step or else it eliminates the purpose of a disassembly video

  • how are you getting the slide off so quick? I can't see if you're pulling the trigger or what you're doing. I just see you pull the slide back then the pin comes out and the slide is off.

  • @tstrenuous10 Push the Pin with your right index finger as you pull the slide toward you with your left hand. The pin will slightly pop out on you left side as the notches match between the slide and the frame. Release the slide with your left hand and pull out the pin. The slide should come off the frame at this point. Sorry for the late reply, hope that answered the question.

  • Thank you for this video! I use your technique to take down my Tactical Ultra and it works like a charm. No more paperclip for me!

  • I am dissasembling my Kimber after watching this video for 14 seconds.

  • That video is a bomb for those who put their paper clip tool on youtube. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Whata waste of time to use that f*g clip if ya don't know tha way.

    Awesome,,, MAN A+

  • awesome, works like a charm for the emp as well.. thanks for the tip

  • Thanks... good vid. Took mine apart to clean it last weekend. Actually it was so easy I don't know why anyone would need the tool.

  • Great!! I was really thinking about ordering a different tool so I didn't have to use the factory scratch my piece tool! BUT....after seeing this and trying it...piece of cake :) I just broke mine down in matter of seconds and re-assembled it too! Who needs a stinking tool...not this feller! Much thanks!

  • @gfishler I was having the same problem when I first tried it with my ultra cdp 2, but found that if you put the Bushing & the Spring Assembly back in together at the same time (slightly compressed) it works perfectly! Thanks for the tips luci734!

  • This worked for me on the 1st try, and this is my first 1911 that I've ever owned! AWESOME! Thank you!

  • Do no try this. I did and now the spring assembly is stuck half way up and will not pull out or go back in.

    terrible

  • @gfishler Your the first to screw it up, congrats!

  • @gfishler Experienced the same problem. Had to play with it to get it out. Had no choice lost my stupid tool. Getting another one but nice technique to know.

  • @gfishler watch my vid it may help you fix it

  • Yeah I hate that dam paperclip tool man ! I am going to see if this procedure will work for my 3inch model ultra crimson carry 2. The only real difference is the finish and the Crimson Trace laser grips so I see no reason that your process will not work for me . Good post.

  • @TheGunsNGearChannel agreed, internals are the same in your gun so it should work.

  • Excellent video. One thing I didn't like was having to use a tool to break down a Kimber. How's the reliability of this gun? I've got my eye on the Ultra TLE II. Was thinking about the blue but might consider the stainless after your report. You also say it kicks like a mule. More felt recoil then other .45's you've shot? Appreciate your help!.. Thanks.

  • @SteveK99Sub thanks, great reliability for this gun. handful of FTE until it was broken in after 500 rds or so. (as expected) perfect since then. its a small .45 so its going to naturally going to have a little more pep compare to a 5'' model :O I got very proficient with it after lots of practice. a pleasure to carry, lots of power for a small package. My wife's favorite gun, if I may add.

  • @SteveK99Sub the Kimber Super Carry Ultra is nice too! :D

  • @SteveK99Sub hey man dont mean to jack your question to the guy makin the vid, buy I personally have shot this exact pistol, and to be honest, it is an extremely fun gun to shoot, and as far as the recoil, I started with the gun pointed at the target, and after the round fired, the pistol was immediatly about a foot and a half above where it was. Still, a terrifically fun gun to shoot, and easy to conceal

  • @kumadog286 You may want to consider a healthy breakfast, and do some pushups.

  • @SpartanCombativesGrp You may wat to consider blowing me.

  • @kumadog286 You may WANT to consider Spellcheck.

  • Thank you for this outstanding video help me make up my mind about getting one. will be picking up one Tuesday

  • Thank you for this outstanding video help me make up my mind about getting one. will be picking up one tuesday

  • @oldarmy57 Glad to hear it helped! Enjoy your new toy :D

  • I know it's not super vid related I'm trying to decide what model I'n the ultra line to get any I'n put

How's your black finish holding up

    Thank you for your time

  • @bigdaddyitalia22 The black finish is holding up good, a little wear and tear as expected. You do need to keep up with regular lubrication because it will rust from carrying it all the time. I would consider the stainless version if I where to do it again. also, do yourself a favor and get the upgraded sight for the gun. This gun kicks like a mule and good sights will really help you with the follow up shot. Good luck!

  • Sorry guys, where have you been? the 1911 was made in 1911 and that was the first time it was dissasembled without a tool. i bet everyone here uses $25.00 per box 45 ammo. RELOAD.

  • @Davidautofull Kimber started making this version a little more recent grandpa. The manual shows no method of disassembling the handgun without a tool. And it's $26.00 a box, get it right!

  • yeah, I've done it like that, but I'm worried about torque"ing" the guide rod and/or springs if this method is used repeatedly. great for emergency field strip; good to know that it can be done.

  • @cspen So far so good... I have asked around all the 1911 forums and nobody had any concerns with this method... time will tell i suppose

  • This was great! My UCII is brand new and I was able to follow this all the way (no stupid paperclip-like tool). I haven't even put a single round through it yet. I did find the 7 o'clock position for my spring to work best so thanks for the tip.

  • I'll shoot some more rounds before I try this, lol

  • I had a feeling there was a way to do it. The recoil spring design was too close to an XD not to be able to do it. Thanks for the vid. Now I don't have to figure it out. :)

  • I thought the "paper clip tool" was used for taking the slide off...You didn't show that at all...

  • Edit: Nvm, I was mistaken. My fault.

  • @DRMS4LYFE I know... i should have showed that as well the more I think about it. I wanted to focus on that spring assembly. too lazy to add it in :/ thanks for watching

  • @DRMS4LYFE

Nope, recoil spring. You remove the slide stop/slide release to take the slide off.

  • Just tried this on the ultra cdp 2. >than 250 rounds through her so she's still "tight" and made it as far as, "push the spring assembly forward with your thumb and it's gonna come up at an angle like this"...... lol and that's where it's stuck at for the moment!!! Can't get her to move at the moment. it appears tolerance between rod and bushing is so tight there's no room for the rod to tilt far enough to come out. oh boy.... this is gonna be fun lol

  • @bcarter1973 yea I had about 700rds before i first tried it. you might just have to loosen her up like u said.

  • Just tried this on the ultra cdp 2. >than 250 rounds through her so she's still "tight" and made it as far as, "push the spring assembly forward with your thumb and it's gonna come up at an angle like this"...... lol and that's where it's stuck at for the moment!!! • @bcarter1973

If the spring is not positioned correctly, you will need the tool to remove the recoil assembly easily. Once removed, position the spring as shown in the video and see how the assembly will now go in an out easily.

  • show slower

  • Yeah..lol...it is NOT that easy!! Trying to put that last piece in FOREVER..lol..

  • @summerwav11 A couple thousand more times and you'll get the hang of it :D

  • can you do this to the pro cdp 2?

  • @ringfactory i believe so

  • Well done - simple and to the point!

  • I find the flared front of my guide rod gets hung up on the very last spring coil just before it will clear and pop out the front. I find that a little pressure on the barrel bushing help you pass that part and goes in pretty smoothly.

  • hard gun to clean!!! Hate trying to pushin the pin back in on mine

  • so let me get this straight, the only purpose in that stupid little tool is to keep the spring compressed so that its easy to remove the recoil spring assembly? So really it just takes a little force to get the spring out without the tool. Im looking at this gun as a personal purchase and would be happy if i didnt have to have that stupid tool lol

  • Thanks for the info....I've got a SA Micro Compact that your trick works on perfectly. SA ships a little "wedge" that fits onto the exposed recoil tube that basically does the same thing as the little tool that ships with the Kimber. Waaaaayyyy faster this way.

  • that spring is a mf sometimes,

  • Well done..

  • This national ass-ociation for gun rights ad on this page is a bunch of shit, if I got the cash I can get any gun I want and I dont see anybody coming to take my gun from me, least of all Pres. Obama. He has enough to deal with, like keeping his job and trying to get the economy back on track. I hate these lying ads.

  • good job with the video.

  • @frankieboy1072002 thank you! hope it helped

  • it worked with my pistol as well, good idea....

  • Does this work with all bull barrel 1911s?

  • I hate you, you are smooth as heck popping that little thing out.

  • lol, thanks

  • @themadscientist13 thats what she said

  • Great video, works great!!! Just disassembled mine and put it back together without the tool, not real smooth, but it is easily doable!!!

  • Just fired one sht today. First 1911 I ever shot.

  • What caliber, and pistol model is ideal for (civilian) CONCEALED carry ???

  • oh man, you opened up a BIG can of worms.. Carry the biggest caliber you can. BUT keep in mind you need to conceal it, be comfortable wearing it, and ACCURATELY use it.

Depends on the situation, sometimes a .45 will do and other times all you can bring to the party is a Ruger LCP .380

  • your question was very vague.. what did you expect??

  • Dude, you don't get it, I AM ACTUALLY COMPLEMENTING YOU FOR VERY HELPFUL ADVICE.

  • my apologies, sounded sarcastic

  • No hard feelings.

  • The largest caliber you can reliably hit a target with. That could be a 9mm, it could be .45ACP. Depends on the shooter and what they are comfortable and practiced with.

  • What is this reply/answer in reference to ?

  • your initial question..... "What caliber, and pistol model is ideal for (civilian) CONCEALED carry ??? "

  • Right, now i recall perfectly !

  • Thank you for the video.

I just bought a CDP II Ultra.

Your video is much easier than using the so called tool.

    Thanks again.1LL

  • What's the best way to carry your extra magazines?

  • In a holster. I have a Smartcarry hoster and a Desantis "tuck this" hoster, both of which have a magazine pouch. They both work great for me. Go to a reputable gun shop and try out a variety of holsters, see what works best for you.

  • so how do you like the ultra cdp i have been thinking about investing in the ultra cdp2 as a conceal carry.

  • I have the Ultra Carry2, but that Ultra CDP2 looks AWESOME!! You get the night sights and the front strap checkering, which I don't have on the UC2. I really enjoy carrying this gun, highly recommended.

  • thanks for the info. i dont know why they would have night sights on the carry 2 it seems to me that on a conceal carry weapon night sights would be rather needed.

  • yea.. It was a little tough getting used to the combat sights that came with the UC2, upgraded sights is a must..just my $.02

  • Now the UC2 have night sights. I looked at both the CDP2 and the UC2 and they ARE the same gun. They take the UC2 and give it a carry melt, different paint job, and a pretty grip...In my opinion, thats not worth the extra 300 bucks.

But, I guess 1100 is not a bad price to pay for a really nice gun. My local gun dealer says to expect the CDP2 to be priced at 980, if that's so, I'll be an owner of one.

Kimbers are awesome guns though. Local dealer says as soon as he displays, they are sold.

  • anyone else having a lot of problems trying to get this video to play? I keep getting the "an error occured, please try again later."

  • yea... not sure what that was all about. Seems to be working fine now.

  • S&W Model 19. Old reliable revolver.

  • Thanks again for the get video and shortcut. It came in handy for test firing after getting my Ultra C/S back from KIMBER. After going back to the factory CUSTOM SHOP( see my earlier post) thru the local seller, my Ultra II CUSTOM SHOP still isn't reliable. Fails to eject and stove pipes habitually. Glad to see most other Owners are pleased with their pistols. Don't think I'll buy another Kimber, and I certainly can't count on this gun for anything except for a conversation piece.

  • ;/ Im sorry to hear that man, so whats next? what are you replacing the kimber with?

  • I just got mine yesterday. I got it for 600, the gun only have 10 round through it. I know what a deal right? That's why i couldn't let it go to other people and i jumped right on it. But yes mine stove pipe too, on the last round always and what i did was i bought a wilson mag and it work great after that no more stove pipe. alot of people hate the factory mag that come with the gun. Sorry that you have a bad first impression on kimber. But i would recommend wilson mag.

  • I noticed your message on Youtube about the Kimber and Wilson magazines. How is the best way to carry the extra mags?

    Thnx

  • If your looking at conceal then buy of our those pants that have magazine pocket inside the front pockets or if you just range shooting there is holsters for them.

  • sorry " one of those pants" my cylinders are miss-firing lol

  • Outstanding Video!!! My Ultra CDPII was taken apart and put back together in less than 2 minutes. The five o'clock position on the spring is key. I tried all other positions and only in that position did I find success. Thank you.

  • This is a GREAT video. Didn't seem to work at first but it does.

    - Field strip USING THE TOOL FIRST. Then re-assemble (as per video) putting the spring in the ~5 o'clock position. All set! Now it works. No more tool needed.

    b. A NEW Kimber is so tight that this might not be impossible. But this technique will work just fine once the weapon is broken it.

Thanks again. Kimber should put this in their instructions!

  • Thanks for the great help

  • My Kimber Ultra II (Custom Shop) was sent back to the factory this week for repair. Did not load or eject reliabily. The selling dealer advised 500 rounds of FMJ to break it in ( manual says 400), then said to change to Wilson Combat magazines and change ammo brands. When that didn't work, they told me it was my weak wrist ( this ain't my 1st 1911 45), so I tightened up my best Weaver stance to no avail. After the local gun dealers smith "tuned it up", still feeds bad. Sure hope it works better.

  • damn that sucks...hope it functions better 4 u....especially if its gunna be ur carry piece...i jus got a pro carry II hope i dont run into that kinda shit...good luck

  • weak wrist???they just have no idea what wrong and don't want to admit it, plus the factory mags should be the best (thats USUALLY true, prolly is with kimber).....thats gotta be heartbreaking tho, spending thousands on a beautiful pistol that won't work.....gotta be sumthin in manufacturing tho, cuz i've never had a jam in the two years of owning my pro carry, putting about 100 rounds downrange in a typical week during the warm months....excellent firearms

  • A PIECE OF ADVICE. When you are making an instructional video on how to dissassemble a gun. DONT SKIP PARTS AND REFER PEOPLE TO THE MANUAL THEY MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE. This is supposed to be an instructional video yet you skip the slide take down part, which you cant even do the other shit without that. Referring to the manual is ridiculous.

  • thanks, ill keep that in mind

  • I'm sure your next one if you choose to do so will be better. That said you do know what you are talking about. It was just the teaching part that IMO needed improvment. But you know what they say about opinions haha.

  • ok...im a glock owner...and a glock lover...im not one of those freaks that think glock is the ONLY reliable handgun...but ofcourse ive learned to love em..ive decided to move on and get a kimber...i'll be pickin up an ultra carry II this weekend...cause i heard that kimbers were the "glock" of 1911's due to the reliability and function...so im def excited....but it seems like kimbers are high maintanence...tough to break in....and can be troublesome...despite theyre power and beauty...true?

  • I recommend searching "nutnfancy kimber" on youtube. He gives a fair review on the kimber, even though he's a "Glock lover" :D

  • yeah i check out a lot of his videos for reviews and things...i actually just bought a pro carry II this past weekend...so im gunna take that thing out n put a couple hundred rounds through it....hopefully i like it!! thanks for the help

  • +1 on this comment.

  • I got the ultra carry a few months ago. it has been great. it did have a few ftf in the first 500 rounds. I would shoot 100 to 150 rounds per range trip to break in. and give good cleanings in between trips. after the 500 round break in period, it has had no problems. now it goes bang every time i pull the trigger!

  • well im glad your happy with your purchase...about a week after i posted this i ran into some BULLSHIT and had to sell my kimber pro carry II (before i even got to shoot it) and all my custom glocks...so i sold all my beloved babies and only kept one kahr CW-9 as my carry piece...so its depressing to think about this lol shit sucks...oh well...i'll rebuild my collection soon enough...glad ur happy tho! its a cool little piece...PEACE

  • Thanks for the reply. The parts look similar and the pistols should be exactly the same as far as function, the CDP just has some extra frills like checkering. I'm not sure the problem is the position of the spring, because I can't get the assembly out. I got it out once, and haven't been able to do it again. On your video the spring assembly just pops right out, and mine doesn't even want to come out at all. Any insight?

  • I had problems doing this. I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II and when I went to take the spring assembly out it wouldn't come out very easily at all. It took at lot of strength to get out and to put back in. Could I possibly be doing something wrong or is it just more difficult for certain pistols?

  • ummhh... well, I can't say I've taken apart that model. Do the parts looks similar? My only advice would be to fiddle around with the spring, keep turning it around from one location to the next. The 5 o'clock positioned spring works great for my gun... might not be the same for yours.

  • Just purchased my .45 UltraCarryII Crimson Trace, and got right down to brass tax on knowing the firearm...after carefully reading the manual, I felt like a MORON!!! Thanks to another video first, showing how the tool is used, THEN finding THIS video....I'm so glad I made this purchase! Phenomenal advice, and VERY well done! THANK YOU!

  • How do you like that Crimson Trace laser??

  • When I purchased the firearm, the laser was actually not sighted, so my first task was to learn how to make the adjustments, which I was pretty fearful about...but, 10 minutes at the range, and I got it together. In all honesty, I think this is a fantastic little conceal carry package. Like others, it had an amazing kick, but after a trigger job, this is one firearm i'll own the rest of my life.

  • Thanks so much for this video! Love this

pistol / hate the tool. Done this a few times now. Works like clockwork for me. Not one problem! Still fires like a champ!

  • just got my Kimber. Anyone know what is catching when I get the slide on? It doesn't want to come off or go on once it hits that point. Happens to me every time.

    Hard to describe by writing.

  • Read the instructions carefully. You can't hold the grip safety when removing/replacing the slide. I just got one today, so congrats for both of us, and I experienced the same thing. There is a small pin on the frame that will be sticking up from you squeezing the grip safety after taking the slide off. Without holding the grip safety, bush that little pin back flush with the frame and the slide should go back on easy.

  • Thanks man, that's exactly what it was!

  • Does this method work on full-sized 1911s, such or other brands that use a reverse plug guide rods? (eg: Wilson Combats.)

  • not sure, try it and tell us if it works!

  • one slight adition... I would recomend using the tool to disassemble, then reassemble without the tool as this will allow you to properly index the spring.

The first time I tried to get it apart, I got myself in a bit of a jam. I rotated the spring by hand and kinda pried up on the rod and it finally came out.

Once I got the spring turned the correct way, it comes apart and goes back together pretty easily. I've done it probably 10 more times with no issue

  • just did this. thanks for the informative vid. I'm still quicker w/ the tool, but it's nice to know it CAN be stripped without it if necessary.

  • great! With a little practice you'll never use that tool again!!

  • Good info. I'll try it soon.

    I HATE the takedown tool.

It's the ONLY thing wrong with this pistol.

  • Hey man, thanks for the video! I've tried this several times. Getting it out has never been an issue, getting the recoil assembly back in is as you said, a bit more of an issue. Thanks for the spring positioning tips, I'll play around with that!

  • no problem, hope it helps
