  • Somehow related: I made a small test with the MPC1000 and the KS.

Synth sounds are KS and the rest (horribly programmed drums) is mpc.

  • i cant find this anywhere. anyone know any links?

  • it sounds kinda weak...feel like i could get a more stable and analog sound from the noise maker

  • Is 500 USD a reasonable price for a good condition of this K station?

  • @OJMAH I paid about $500 when it was NEW back in 2005 I believe it was. As far as I know the KS doesn't have a crazy cult following so the price seems a bit high to me. :)

  • @OJMAH just got one off e-bay for 300 shipped.

  • que mierda es esta???????

  • Nice tools!!!!!!!!

  • The reverb and delays sound pretty nice!

  • 6:50 is great. So is the very end. You make me want this synth bad! It's a good price too... From looking at the comments though the X-station may be the way to go. Of course, I've got a Waldorf Blofeld on the way, so I'll have plenty to play with soon.

  • @nindracula Best Novation synth today is the XioSynth. You can load all the K-Station and X-Station sounds into the Xio.

  • I've had the Kstation and I think the Arpreggio is ace...

  • I have a Novation K Station for sale atm. Only selling cuz I need cash quick for rent so no shipping, must be picked up in Orange County, California. If your interested email me here for further details.

  • Just bought the A station which is this without the keyboard. Im just gonna watch this video until its delivered. The effects sound great.

As far as your keyboard playing goes, sounds great, f that Cm blues scale your playing is my go to scale , jam on that for hours!!!I only know it in C and F though.

    thanks for sharing.

  • Whats better, this or the x-station? I'm thinking about buying an x station but i wouldnt mind spending a little more if something else is alot better and will last longer. any suggestions people?

  • The X Station is pretty decent. It depends on what you're looking for. I got mine yesterday and I'm having a blast. It's a synth, midi controller, audio interface, recorder, effects processor and mixer, all wrapped in a nice package. The K Station is simply a synth, it does nothing more, to my knowledge anyway. The X station also has a joystick and touch pad and is powered by the K Station engine. It's a sweet piece of machinery if you ask me.

  • @VenVile - I didn't like the X-Station too much. It was just too flimsy feeling and I thought the editing was a pain. Nice engine, though!

  • pretty cool sounding, moog like

  • i want this so bad! i love the v station very much

  • is there pads sounds on it?

  • shame tho it only has like 16 white keys. thats too small.

  • there is one with more keys but its even more expensive

  • the ks4 AND ks5 are basically this keyboard with more keys...

  • @BlackGnosis basically, because the KS4/5 are also multitimbral while the K-station is not ;-)

  • @Dynamicdj you can get it in rack form

  • v-station is the best vst ever, so im deffo buying this. fuckin awesome.

  • i really don't know... yet. lol ,i'm from europe. so i'll use €uros.hh

  • Novation KS-5

  • how much does it cost?

  • about $300 - $600 these days

  • thats freaking awesome

  • i've got the VSTi version V-Station Gotta agree with djilyaz...it sounds freakin awesome

  • Nice demo.

I was thinking of getting one too, but I have the v-station and bass station vsts, getting this might be redundant, since it sounds very much like a v-station.

V station is awesome btw. I highly recommend it for this VA sound.

I might buy a micron, because I'm itching to buy something, but once you enter the vst realm, there's no turning back, or turning on of your hardware.

  • really?

    I had the oppostie experience...

Once I got a prophet 5, I never looked at the plugins ever again after that.

  • this or the microkorg?

  • this!!!

  • SOITA PARANOID!!!! \,,/

    :D

  • vittuaks huutelet

it's a pity they don't make these anymore..although the price of the x-station just went downhill

  • I'm not surprised....i had an x-station..piece of shit.

It lasted 3 months, then broke.

My novation nova has a much better build quality.

  • nice;)

  • hey harri, has the k station got anologue filters like the a-station and super bass stations..?, I've got a supervova 2 rack and a super bass station rack and "A station" rack though one thing I do notice the difference in the sound of the quality of the filters on the supernova 2 compared to the sauperbass / a station....?, thanks in advance..!!

  • Nope, the filters are digital in this one. it's a shame but that's the way it is :(

The difference is there yeah, when listening to revolutions and evolvers filters, and comparing to emx or k-station.. :)

  • if you want to sell it? im lokking for the k station. please send me a answer via mail. thx

  • Sorry, but I'm not selling it :)

  • jeez you guys spent a lot of time getting back at each others insults lmao. anyway, how much does this synth usually run, all i've got are VST plugins i would like to purchase some hardware at some point

  • awesome sounds and effects, great synth :)

  • wankers

  • and you can shut the fuck up....

  • Right bro...people do buy my music..notice that it's spelled "buy", and not "by" you moron! (who's retarded?)

You sell all those records, but cannot form sentences?

I suppose then, that the people who bought your records are just as uneducated and ignorant as you are.

    Good day sir!

(respond if you want to, but i'm done)

    MR. FUNK

  • ok Mr Funk??? LMAO so now your onto spelling now that i have killed your argument? no they are not ignorant they bought my music because they liked it. so you go back to your prog rock noodlings or whatever the music you fucking make and stop hating....

  • Wow, why don't you just go cry me a fucking river?

  • You can sell 1,000,000,000 copies and your words will still mean nothing to me, as you are trend motivated, and probably don't even love music, or the essence of it.

    enjoy! YOU WANKER.

    mr. funk

  • na the reason you do music for the passion is that no one in there right mind would by it cos its shit and thats why you'd go hungry LOL music is my career you, so you can carry on with your insults and keep dreaming that you'll sell records.

and how can i not love music?? are you really THAT retarded??? if i didnt love music id have had some other successful career. opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, and you my friend are indeed an asshole...nuff said LOL

  • Try to learn English first, bea(s)tsanctuary... I don't think you are on the right side - insulting always degrades you. So please, leave (at least) the Internet and go on selling all those copies - but don't let us read any more comments full of insults and idiot sentences... I don't think Pink Floyd thought at "we don't need no education" this way... Thumbs down.

  • listen to me you little foreign prick, dont tell me how to spell english, your nothing but a half breed scumbag.. what the fuck do you know at 17???? nothing... so fuck off

  • This is what I meant... Well, maybe I know far more things than you - surely education ahah

    Peace and love, brothers.

  • oh and for your information, ive been in the music industry since 1990 and have had success in europe and the US over the years, been playing piano since the age of 5, im now 34 im signed to 2 major labels in the UK and a US my first ever single i released when i was 18 sold in excess of 250.000 copies. what have you done lately?

  • sorry i know "current music" is something u cant really comprehend since your really are out of touch as far as modern music production is concerned.

lets get all yankie for a second since thats what you are lol you look at artists such as timbelake he uses VST intruments all over his tracks and so does N.E.R.D. etc etc so dont go giving me your bullshit LOL oh yeh AND THEY ARE COMMERCIALLY VIABLE, are they shit??????????

  • I knew it....btw: yes, Justin Imberlake and his producer TIMB..are absolute nonsense.

for you to think they are important, or even good--shows how ignorant you are.

    Have fun.

  • hardware is so much more fun than plug-ins....you can actually TOUCH it.

  • Agreed. But that's my personal opinion on this thing. I try to stay away from the computer as much as I can. The feeling of pressing play on your master sequencer/clock and seeing all the lights roll at the same times is magical. It's not really the same for me in software. Sure I can create much more complex things in software if I need to, but I'm 100% satisfied what i can do with the hardware I have now. The feeling is what drives me, not the money. Not yet atleast. I don't know if this....

  • ... really contributes to this discussion, or if that's what you guys were arguing about.

So, in short: I respect people more when they have a full hardware setup. I accept people who use VST's because I use them too, when doing something that can't be done easily with the hardware i've got.

    That's all.

  • yes...I agree HarriL.

Let em keep their software....and have their laptops crash..lol

And I, as you, make music for the passion of it, not for money.

If it were for the money, most of us would have gone hungry long ago..

    Mr. funk

  • ur a Dumb fuck guy why are u so ignorant! the whole purpose to vst is its compatibility not many people have the studio SPACE for a lot of hardware synths with technology these days it only makes sense! I use hardware and software BOTH have their strengths! u give this "rock" type vibe with amps n shit i play progressive trance

  • i love all the knobs

  • Great ;}

  • so the K is the daddy of the X-station ?

  • I bought a K-station in 2002 when they first came out, it was good at the time.

I had it for 4 years and only switched on about 5 times and lay gathering dust in my studio after that LOL

  • btw...I just heard your music..it's as generic as I thought it would be.

    MR. FUNK

  • and? ive had a no1 have you?

  • I just won one for $235 on ebay. Cant wait for it to come.

  • k-station vs supernova rack

    what should I go for?

Do they sound similar or are they completely different instruments?

  • I don't know. I haven't used the supernova. As far as I know the sound is similiar, but it has more parameters to work with.

  • Get the supernova Rack V2 its much better :) if your going down the hardware route.

But to be honest there are much better VST instruments that blow them both away.

  • software is boring though...and only lasts as long as the operating system supports it.

    hardware is FOREVER!

  • so why is it that some of the old software synths i have had BEFORE i got my K-station in 2002 still work on my current OS??

your argument is flawed lol hardware synths date after 6months then its on to the latest trend of sounds.. you obv havent listened to the latest software, and to marantzamp who cares if you can touch it???? as long is a the music you make is current and commercially viable who gives a fuck? lol

  • The instruments never date...only trends date.

Sure..If you are making "current" music (whatever the hell that means--krap, I take it)

The old analog synths still sound as great now as they did then....I mean listen to the radio...EVERY other pop/rap productions has 808 drums on it...so what do you mean the sounds "date".

Do electric guitars date? how about pianos?

Last time I checked, people are still using them quite a bit.

"Commercially viable"?? is that what drives you to create music? lol

  • as i guessed your in your 40's i wouldnt expect you to understand modern music technology lol

and as far as using 808, not everyone can afford to use the real thing so they use software emulators/samples. and what has guitars and pianos got to do with it??? dont try and make yourself sound clever because your not all that lol and still your not reading my post correctly I STILL USE ALL OF MY OLD PLUGINS

  • And I guessed you right too! A snotty nosed 20 something with a laptop who thinks he knows something about music and technology.

What you don't seem to realize is that all your "commercially viable", trendy soundalike nonsese has no staying power, nor is it memorable.

In 10 years time (if you are that lucky), all your trendy sounds will be but a faint memory, while real music will continue to be made.

FYI--I'm a producer and a musician with 20 years + experience...now go back to your laptop.

  • dont get a microkorg, they're so limited! k-station are a million times better, i mean just listen to it! it sounds much better!

  • Should I get this or a microKORG?

  • That depends on your personal preferences. K-station offers so much better hands on feeling when you have almost every function available on the front panel. I don't think you can compare them soundwise. Novation and korg have their own unique sound. Im not 100% sure but I believe that the K-station might even be cheaper than the MK.

Both of them are good machines, but i would get the K-S.

  • microkorg. everybody says it is a toy,but you can get some cool and complex sounds out of it if you know how to tweak it.

  • looking to maybe purchase the K Station. Can it be used as a standalone keyboard or do you have to hook it up to a sound module??

  • The K Station is a sound module so no need to buy anything additional. As you can see in the vid Harril is demonstrating some of the sounds the synth produces. If you have other rackmount modules then you can use the K station to control these too via the midi out

  • Still in love with my K-Station. It is also a gret controller for V-Station.

  • can you say darksynth! god i wish i had the expendable income you do!

  • VERY nice demo! You showed off its potential. Well done!

  • 5.20 sounds like mass effect game over screen

  • WOOT!!!

I bought it this evening. Ive been playing for it only half an hour and I can tell you, these things fucking rock. I'll probably be selling my Nord Rack II now.

If you see a K-Station for sale BUY IT.

  • Just bought the K-Station 49 key AND a KS-Rack... TOTALLY AMAZING ..

  • By the way, on pricing. I'm buying mine second-hand for €150. The XIO is the reason why these are so cheap.

  • What the fuck? Every video I see of this synth makes it look and sound amazing, yet still people bitch about it in reviews. I might be buying one. Think I will.

  • V-Station Only £149

  • You can buy the V station for £30. Don't pay £150 for it unless you are tapped in the head!

  • this is an excellent demo, you know how to create a good sound.

  • holy eff, that makes me want one. how much did u get this for?

  • around 350€ a couple of years ago. It could be around 200€ these days.

  • what do you mean by bad playing?

  • what is the effect you used at 00:39?

  • reverb

  • reverb

  • Fab demo, i wasn't sure if i should get one of these but you have convinced me. If you play in external sounds do you get access to all the keyboard functions including the appregiator?

  • This synth kicks ass :)

  • releasing V-station pretty much killed any wish i had for buying this. Bad move, novation.

Athough tweaking it is prolly much more fun on hardware.

  • hardware is always better....software is only temporary, then stops working.

  • software is temporary??? your talking complete shit. LOL

  • In case you haven't notices...all software is reliant on a computer's operating system in order to run.

When the OS changes, you must either upgrade the stupid VST or have it (at some point) stop working altogether.

If you don't know that, YOU don't know shit.

Hardware runs on it's own, pretty much forever....

As plug-ins come and go, hardware is always there for you, never changing or requiring upgrading.

  • have you noticed your knobs are a lot more lose than they were when you bought the synth?

my x-station's knobs are practically falling out

  • Yes I have and it saddens me :(

  • just use a dab of locktite on the inside of each knob.. they won't go anywhere after that.. just make sure it's on the INSIDE so that the potentiometer will still turn.. and by dab, i mean a dab, not a blob.

  • Hmm

    interesting

    have you used it before?

I feel like I'd lock my knobs, and not be able to move them

I'm also a little hesitant to rip my virus's knobs off

    haha

  • LOL, Nothing worse than having your knob fall off!!! ;-) *grin*

  • HarriL dont listen to ill informed people great little demo youve made my mind up im gonna get one of these little beauties cheers ross what country are you in

  • This synth's hot. How much did you pay for it?

  • Yeah, I suck at playing :)

But this video is about the sound of the synth, not the notes I play :)

  • what the hell? you do realize that this is a synth demo video? No one really cares what he plays as long there's decent quality audio.

  • pardillo...

  • just another session :)

  • Is like Roland sh 101 but better

  • More versitile maybe, but 101 is always analog.. :)

  • cool

    Thats is true

And you know more than me, you are cool

  • if you are looking for a similar synth to this, but inexpensive, look for the Alesis Micron. very good keyboard.

  • which one you think its better?

    Microkorg or this one?

  • I like this one more because this has more knobs and a better keyboard. Im not a MK expert so I can't compare their features.

  • Yeah. You're right..

    Does it have loops?

  • What do you mean by loops?

  • make a sequence of notes and then you can leave your hands and it still plays.

Sorry for my english, im brasilian :P

  • Yes you can do that by using the arpeggiator. But there is no actual sequencer on board.

    No problem, it's fine.

  • Hmm, yeah. Arpeggiator, that's the word I forgot. Anyway thanks. Im thinking in buy an novation or a microkorg, ill make a search.

    Thanks

  • I haven't played the K-Station, but I have played the microKORG. Don't buy it. It seems pretty good at first, but the effects have no power or feeling.

  • rockin out some space shit... nice..

  • Typical VA.

  • It doesn't get any more VA than this :)

  • sounds like the subtractor in reason 3.0. How much did this cost you?

    Good funk you got going.

  • It was around 350€.

  • THE softwareversion sounds great to

  • Yeah, it sounds great aswell. The softwareversion was the reason I bought this :)

  • Great demo of a cool little synth. You videos are pretty awesome. Keep it up!

  • i have this synthesizer. It´s not very expensive, 333 euros in thomann musikhaus

  • Th K Station is still available for sale or it's been replaced?

  • I think you'd have to get it used on eBay now. The X-Station is the newer version of that, and now there's the Xiosynth. I love the K-Station though. It was my first synth and my favorite. As you can see by the guy's video it's really easy to edit your patch and I think all the knobs and sliders are laid out nicely.

  • i love my k-station. It sounds great :D

  • And i love mine too :)

  • dya reckon i could do the same stuff on with a remote zero (w/o the keys) and a midi keyboard?

  • Well, with remote zero you could tweak the parameters, and then play notes on your midi keyboard, but only to control your SOFTsynths. As far as i know, you cant generate any sounds with the remote.

  • Ok, thx for the quik reply.

So I could, but only w/soft, not standalone.

    Cheers.

  • k-station sounds really nice, do they still sell those

  • Sounds like a versatile machine...and a lot of fun!

  • And that's what it is :)

  • Let's see some more HarriL songs with this beast.

  • Almost every video I have made (and will make) has K-station in it :) I usually put it in the 5th part of the korg emx, so whenever i press the number 5 from the synth part, you'll most likely hear K-station, or a combination of EMX, and Ks-sounds.

I'll record some more, when i get electronic enough.. I have been having this acoustic feeling for the last few days now. :)

  • Oh wow, I didn't even know that! Very cool. I'm getting a Kaoss Pad 3 tomorrow, so I should have some cool stuff coming up, too

  • some pretty sweet soundin arps there. damn i want the remote sl so bad.
