This is strange... another posting of this song (with the COED black label) lists two different names as the songwriters than the white label does. The black label also says "Johnny Mastro ~ The Voice of The Crests". I thought Johnny had stopped using "Mastro" by the time this record was released in December 1961.
@TopazDupree The songwriters listed on the black label, Ollie Jones & Lockie Edwards Jr., actually wrote "Model Girl" (and Johnny Maestro was listed as "Johnny Mastro" on that label). I think the white "advanced pressing" label was correct (it was sent to radio stations). When copies of the record were pressed for sale (with the black label), the wrong information was provided--only the name of the song was correct.
All debate re: authentic pressing aside, I sure appreciate finding this here. Johnny's records are perfect pop! The world is diminished with his passing.
Thanks you for this! It is great as usual. I wish i had everything he ever sang on one cd. This is wtg! Love it, must be love, johnnieangel, yahoo fanclub
Very hard to tell an original from a boot unless they're side by side. The original is stamped in the run off, boot is etched. Original is 4-500, boot about $100.00. Trust me, I sold one last year on ebay, can't play games with the big hitters. Mine was a boot, I believe it did about $125.00 It all depends on the run off stampings, run off trailings and the leading edges.
ANYWAY SUPER FANTASTIC sound, always been my best record!!!!
Seeing the record in person I have no problem figuring out if it's legit. The original was stamped by RCA and has thin, very flat wax with a rigid, flat edge surface. Also, the rise of the label isn't as pronounced on the boot. The boot has a slightly curved edge. What makes me think this is real is that the boot I've handled (which also sold in the $100 range) had printing that was a little bit sloppy (tiny ink blots, lines surrounding Coed not perfectly strait, small print not clear, etc).
This one here, all the print appears to be heavy notice ADVANCE PRESSING, the print is way to heavy. The label edge looks good, then again, all the small print looks way too heavy. It's hard to tell without holding it close, plus the runoff numbers would say it all.
Ah, not here to judge, nobody's buying, we are all here to listen & enjoy these sounds! I just noticed collect45 & grandprix63 below is saying what it is, I just don't understand the language??
Actually it's great! One person can't know everything! At least when I have a question I'll know who to ask. When I get a chance, I had all the Solitairs on OldTown, I'm talking all the early stuff, 1954-60 brown ropes, all but the red wax. I sold them all but one, because I couldn't decide if it was legit. A couple of big collectors said it was real, and a couple said it wasn't, all had their points. I'll have to dig it out and send some pictures. You might spot something?
Back-up on this tune is Roger Koob and the Travelers.

It's alright.. I didn't think you were judging. It's nice to talk to other collectors that understand "record speak".
