Naturally, as a heterosexual person you would say this. So what if there are more pressing issues in your opinion than questions pertaining to legally enforced inequality. Of course, you probably do not realize all the paperwork required to change "marriage" to "civil union" in this legally binding arrangement.

For approx. 100 yrs., from the end of the Civil War through to the 1960's, the efforts to advance "civil rights" were always made by Republicans & Christians. However,

Democrats always opposed them. Its logical, Lincoln was a Republican. Thus, after the war, African Americans were Republicans & efforts to legislate civil rights, came immediately. By the 1960's, the Christian Reverend MLK & other Reverends lead the movement, which in Birmingham, Alabama was opposed by the Democrat Governor, Democrat Mayor, Democrat Police Chief & even Democrat German Shepperds & fire hoses

Meanwhile, other Democrats, many of whom currently govern, were busy hallucinating

A few questions I would ask Merlin Froyd.

The gov't does already determine who you can visit in the hospital, who you can claim your social security benefits, who is taxed for inheriting your property, etc. Until such time as a "Civil Union" measure is on the ballot, shouldn't we then allow marriage to be legal for monogamous gay couples? There are already churches who wish to marry their gay, monogamous couples, shouldn't they be allowed that right?
