I agree. You don't "learn" anything from a Spenser book, but at least Robert Parker doesn't disappoint you... unlike, for example, Stuart Woods. Woods can deliver a great book and then the next one is a real stinker. Parker is steady.
I stopped reading the Spenser series a few years ago because he tends to do the same story over and over again. Not much investigating by Spenser and once he finds out who the bad guy is he taunts them until they go after him or one of his friends, thus giving him the needed justification to take them out.
