  • can you use these templates for illustrator cs5? i like the brush styles & idont know enough in illustrator to make my own.

  • I'm super impressed you're doing tutorials. Really nice tutorials I might add. Thank you.

  • @sonnybrown Thanks! I appreciate hearing that :)

  • @CartoonSNAP Definitely. Completely came across you by accident and glad I did. On a side note, my girlfriend just pointed out to me that you probably know our friend Chris as he worked on Sponge Bob as well. Small world if you do!

  • Am I able to use your template in adobe illustrator cs3 I'm getting a digipro wp4030 soon hopefully everything will work

  • @Gravesyte Yes, the templates on the download page work for everything from Illustrator 10 all the way up to CS4 (and probably CS5) Templates are at Cartoonsnap d-t c-m slash template

  • Hi everyone!I have a trust slimline design tablet,But I can't use any vector programs. So it doesn't perceive the pressure.Does anyone have an info?

  • Are those brushes already there or do you have to make them all?

  • @KrazyBean14 The brushes are in the teplate which you can download from my website. See video #1 for the website address (YouTube won't let me type it here)

  • I can't believe it. There are literally NO tutorials for Adobe Illustrator 9.0?! WHAT A RIP!

  • hey mate, got to say this tutorial was very helpfull since i just got illustrator and still learning the basics, the brush creation part was awesome. cheers

one thing i would like to ask, it might sound noobish but, i don't manage to be able to use the brush over an opened document, i mean, i create a new layer but it does not allow me to go over it with the brush.

    can you help me pls?

    thx

  • just to let you guys know you don't need to double click on an icon to get the tool preferences, a nice quick shorcut is if your using the tool just press enter/return and it will open up the option :)

  • @ReidoDesign Thanks for that tool tip -- I'll try it out next time I fire up Illustrator :)

  • i'm loving the tutorial so far! this is gonna change the way i use Illustrator and its brushes! by the way, what are your Wacom tablet settings? i tend to use it strictly as a mouse substitute without varying pressure. but am curious at what you have yours set on. thanks!

  • @mfranck66 I use the basic Wacom settings; I have the "Tip Feel" right in the center. The trick is to set your thick and thin settings in the brush tool within the Adobe Illustrator settings. If you follow the settings I recommend, and if you download the template from the link provided in the video descripion then you should have everything you need.

  • I see a size 7 and 15. Is changing the diamater the same as changing brush size and I don't really need to change the brushes just the diameter? Or do I need to make different brushes like you did with small medium and large. Lastly, do you in photoshop how to turn on pressure sensitivity? My brush line there stays the same thickness no matter how soft or hard I push.

  • @destroyahdes Hi Des...look at around 3:08 in this video. You can change the size of the brush at the bottom of that dialog box where it says "Diameter." To get thick and thin line variation, you need to draw with a pressure sensitive tablet, and make sure the box next to diameter does NOT say "Fixed." It should be variable based on pressure. Set the variabiklity with the slider that says "variation."

  • Hello there. My name is Des. I just got my first tablet. I've been a mouse artist for about 11 years. Just today I got an Intuos 4 medium tablet and I'm also new to Ilustrator. I have CS4. I can't find that menu you have for your medium brush and others. But I did find were to change diameter and variation for pressure. I draw cartoon style too. Is this different from photoshop where I can chose around brush and just change the size? Do I have to make new ones here since I only see two defaults?

  • okay is there ANYBODY out there that can tell me ....should i buy a Wacom tablet or should i use adobe?! I dont know how to use either and all i wanna do is make my drawings digital i dont care what im drawing on even freakn scratch paper who cares! I just want to start my digital art. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!! so tired of asking this question! lol

  • @MeanInPink

Get both, maybe Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop first and practice with the tools (there's a lot to learn).

Then get a Wacom tablet as using the tablet makes drawing much easier than with a mouse. Although drawing with a mouse isn't impossible.

The programmes are expensive but I'm sure the Adobe website has demo versions you can download and practice with.

    Hope this helps.

  • where is paintbrush tool preferences on Photoshop 5?

  • Thanks alot for ur tutorials, i like it when u explain step by step. Anyway, where can i get those brushes? R they already there or should i download them?

  • I. FUCKING. LOVE. YOU!!!!!

  • @Zkrudriverz Well, thank YOU ^_^ Glad to hear that you're digging the videos!

  • some times my line comes broken even though i press its brand new so the nib is good why this happen?

  • how do we turn off the path line when using the brush I have no idea where to look please help

  • i love your work man. i've just bought bamboo fun. cant wait to try it out

  • Thanks to everybody for offering their advice in the comments...I'm totally swamped these days with my work at the studio, so I appreciate you guys working together to solve the weird Illustrator problems. Thanks again! --Sherm

  • when i choose the brush tool it always has denied sign, do u know any ways i could get around that?

  • I have the same problem. Which version are you using? CS4?

  • na its cs3 but i know how to get around that , you just have to click window->brushes-> create new brush and then just draw on the canvas and thats where your custom brush will always be stored, i found this is like photoshop except your are FORCED to create your own brush because they have no presets, hope that helped out a lil bit.

  • Either that or your layer isn't rasterized. All you have to do to rasterize it is, right click on the layer and hit rasterize layer. I'm sure you have figured out the problem though because the comments are 3 months old lol

  • lol thanks for the tips, i never pass up tips, thats one thing i can never get enough of, thanks again.

  • You are a good artist, but it was annoying at the beginning on how long you spent on drawing, then erasing, again and again. Try making it full speed, and that'll work better...

  • Try making your own tutorial. Then try making a cover for a major television stations magazine. Then you can tell this man what he should do. . .

  • Hi first of all nice tutorial.

But I have a problem I'm using a tablet from wacom.

The driver is installed so pressure sensitivity goes really well in photoshop.

BUTTT when I go to illustrator the option pressure can't be chosen. It just looks grey. I can only choose between random and fixed.

Do you know where the problem is? maybe in my preferences or sumthin?

    thanx in advance.

  • Hey man, I had the same problem. You have to go into your system preferences (mac) or whereever the equivalent is on a PC and add Illustrator to the list by pressing the plus icon beside the programs window. Then, just set the presets you want for the pen i.e. pressure sensitivity and screen ratio.

Then, you need to restart your computer in most cases for the changes to take effect. The pressure option should now become available. Hope this helps.

  • Actually it suddenly worked :p

anyway thanx for your respond ;)

whenever it does not work again, I know where to find the answer

  • Hi angelapocaliptiko... when you say "one of those pens" are you talking about a Wacom tablet? If so, "yes." I use a Wacom Intuos 2 on Windows and a Cintiq with my mac. You can get a nice Bamboo Fun tablet from Wacom fro under a hundred bucks. Thanks for asking ^_^

  • illustrator just wont allow the "pressure" option... are you using one of these pens or something?

  • youre the best of them all..keep it up!!!more power!!!thanks a lot,i will try this on my sons birthday lunch.
