I have some awesome sounds from mine. I gig with this and people tell me all the time that my tone is very "Joe Satriani sounding". Clean sounds are also very brilliant, yet warm and serene. I don't play through an amp with any distortion wither. I actually run my GT-8 through the 'mic. in' on my PC, then speaker out to 2 RCA's into a stereo receiver. The stereo then has 4 speakers hooked up to it, this way I can play to backing tracks with great balances.
Scared the crap out of me when you grabbed the amp! I'm a computer science major and the GT-8 has me scratching my head looking like a moron. Some people who really know what they're doing seem to get some good sounds out of it, but I just can't seem to get good stuff from it. I'll try some of the stuff you mentioned and see if that helps anything.
@Kcducttaper1 Well good luck, if you have any questions dont hesitate to ask. Just remember to put all the dials at noon and dont think about using the dist pedals, use the amps.
@polishskaterdude32 yeah, I think so, thats what I mostly play. You can tweak this thing a lot, if you can get the new one, its better and easy to use.
@Albee213 hello,I just didn't understand how do you connect the gt8 to your amp...you said no into the amp-input neither in the efx-loop...so I'm italian and I didn't get what you said after...maybe "stereo XLR input"?by the way what behringer is that?my amp is a peavey bandit112 first series and it has efx/loop and preamp IN/power amp OUT...how can I connect properly with the gt8 please?
@cibertito90 huh? I prefer to use the aux/line in, but the return will work exactly the same. I have not been able to get a good sound from plugging it into the "guitar" input at all but I do not try that hard to get a good sound. I wanted to use the preamps for my sound. I have also ran a behringer tube mic preamp in the effects loop of the GT-8 and it gives it a real tube sound.
hey man - thanks for the tutorial. yea i so want to smash my gt-8 to pieces. the manual sucks and no one knows how to do anything to make any of these settings to sound like a guitar! if i have any questions is it cool to drop u an email? you really seem to know how to dial in a patch. thanks man :)
@johnnyalonso1 Dude you're not kidding....I just got this thing and I have no clue what I'm doing. I have the ME-70 and it's cake...to figure this thing out, you need an engineering degree.
I recently bought a Behringer MIC100 vacuum tube preamp and run it trhough the effects lupe and it really makes the amo sound more tube like. I run it after the preamp in the Boss, before the amp and it sounds a little to noisy.
I have not hot much luck using the distortions with the Pre-Amps unless it is for lead, hard rock tones. I play mostly thrash stuff so I use the Pre-Amps only for rythm tones. Now to get rid of some of the swirling screechy sound you need to lower the High cut as stated in the video and then sculpt your tone with the EQ settings. Just make sure your setting all the knobs at noon and then turn up or down slowly! I prefer the rectifier tones the most, it sounds real and you can do a lot with it.
OK.. I this is a pre-amp but can be used as if it were just a bunch of pedals. I use it as a pre-amp into the AUX of a Behringer 2x12. This makes the sound very clean and all the modeling from the GT-8 sound better. I do not use the Line/phones output either, I find that to be a fake and muffled sound, many recommend that but I switched back and forth and when it was off the sound was more convincing of a true tube amp. I have used the AMP sims and they can sound almost real with enough tweakin
So if you plug in directly into a stereo, PA or computer with the "Speaker Simulator" on and tweak it out it can sound almost real, I have used it through a PA and that gave the most realistic sound for the Speak Sim.
I will look into it and maybe make a better video of this. BUT the problem is that it will be different for ever amp/guitar and I have found that when I switch guitars that if I want to get the best sound I need to change them too. What I try to do is balance the input output for all my guitars and then use settings for each channel to try and make up for it.
Could someone please give me some advice on how to stop the t.wah patch from piercing my eardrums everytime I play a note higher up the fretboard especially when I pick the string a bit harder? I'm running my gt8 through a 50watt tube amp with all the amp modelling disabled. I found that LPF function is less painfull then the BPF and tried to cut the highs with an EQ but I found that this makes the overall tone of the patch too soft.
I am not sure but I would try tweaking the EQ more and then look at your guitars setup, maybe the pickup is too close to the strings. I have found that most of the screechy sounds can be eq'd out. I would have to actualy hear what yours is doing. You might also look into WAH settings or change the wah you are using.
I have used this pedal through Marshalls, Crates, Line6 and many other amps and this Behringer sounds pretty good being that I paid $130. I have even used a Roland JC-120 and this sounds damn close to it just using the power amp side.
You really have to read the manuel, It took me awhile to get the sounds I wanted, but slowly im getting them. This thing can do anything with sound...just read a little at a time.....you will love it
maybe hard. cause till the gt10 is in stores, the gt8 is not sold any more. I think ebay is the only option you have(though i would (and will) buy the the me 50. in my opinoin the sounds are better, it has a looper. and its also very hard to get the right tone out of your gt8. its nuch easier with a me 70
When you said you've been perusing this aim for few months and it's been a nightmare, it reminded me exactly when i was stuck on a guitar issue for a long time and couldn't figure only after a while...
so all that GT-8 demo rubbish videos the proffessionals put up only shows u what can sound, but we need more of videos like yours who brings ppl with GT-8s more close to the actuall manual setting up of the unit.
so yea great closeup video man, i'm a GT-8 user myself and those problems dont end
I recently bought the GT-8 and indeed, right now I'm quite disappointed about the sound. I'm running the GT-8 through a Roland Cube 30x. The sound is very thin, though I have treble at like 25% and bass around 70%.
I hope it'll be better after using your tips and information!
I never used it with a small amp, I have a line6 spider III 1x8 and I will try to set it for that and see how its sounds tomorrow and maybe find some tips.
I do not know if you are still using the GT-8 but you should be able to get a good sound from it. I have been using mine with that line6 and it sounds good even for recording at low volumes.
hey i have exactly the same amp and i´m running my gt-8 also into the aux input. sounds great this way cause the preamp of the amp isn´t used anymore. yours sounds great, too!
Sorry about the mic noise... Many people also use the line/head phone out put and that sounds terrible if you are using it with the amp unless you are trying to create a totaly original sound for your own amp. If you amp sounds good you should never use that.

@cibertito90 I prefer to use the "aux,/line in/effects return over the guitar input. And I always turn off the speaker simulator then.

this was really helpful it's nice to know that i'm not the only one who wants to smash this pedal.
i've been trying to make distortions and they all are very buzzy and muddy, is there any way to clear it up?

No offence but Behringer Amps are
basic and cheap.
The rest of your set up is pretty good.
The guitar has a nice natural tone to it (i've played one) and the GT8 is a nice piece of kit ( i own one.)
I think if you were to put them through a decent amp you would be suprised.
As far as the screechy sound from the GT8..
Its usually 1 of 2 things..
either the pickup gain on the guitar is to high (try easing off on the guitar volume a touch) or the GT8's input/output level needs some attention .
