  • That's a piece of shit.... USB ports only put out 5volts.. not only are you using a USB, you have the goddamn fans in the wrong direction... Try using 4 120mm fans rated at 12v @ .25amps.. 1200rpm.. run them in parallel and connect them to a 12v 2amp AC adapter... I feel like slapping you in the face right now...

  • @norge696

he did it with old parts just saying...

  • I have a 'real' laptop fan cooler stand/fan i got on sale for $10. Helps for sure but I still put a small fan aimed above and that makes everything perfect. I just used to use some books to prop up the laptop before so now I have the stand laptop cooler pad which is ideal.

    .

The vid idea is great! I never even knew about laptop cooler pads until i saw the one i got on sale. Figured I'd try it, expected it to be junk but make a better stand than the books I was using but turns out it works!

  • nice , but try and come up with something better than the shit dollar store tape to secure the fans

  • my cooler costed $25 and dossent look like some bum maid it.............. but in saying this, it is very smart and maid me think :)

  • WHEN I SAW YOU LAPTOP COOLER, I SAY WOW!! FOUR FANS

BUT WHEN I SAW UNDERNEATH, FUCK!!!!! NO WAY!!

  • 5 dollars my ass

  • usb cooling pads are crapppp.

  • holy ghetto batman

  • I have noticed how the USB is limited 2 5v if I got a usb hub which could take like 6 usb's could I put like 12 fans in this thing?

  • I have an old PS2 and xbox lying around, I guess I will use the fans out of them.

  • lol u really are a NOOB , cooling a netbook the size of a mobile phone LMAO

  • Why the hell do you need a cooler for a netbook?

  • this netbook does not need any type of cooling!!! that is not a notebook. that is a NETBOOK

  • Where should I place the fans? Under the fans of my computer? Or somewhere else?

  • 12v fans on 5v USB? Just make sure the internal fan is working right, that the heatpipe fins are clean and that you aren't blocking the intake vents in the bottom (who is the dumbass engineer that put intake vents on the bottom anyway - stupid move).

  • this is useless if you have a macbook pro

  • I would never ever used that... thing :O

  • are 2 fans marked DC 12V, 0.15A safe (for PC as well) to be powered by single USB? Thanks for your tutorial. BTW the fans have 3 wires coming out, a white one too. I guess I should ignore that?

  • Hi, I have a question, Are those fans blowing air towards the latptop from underneath? or are they sucking the air into the binder and out the sides?

  • @heatednemz They are pulling the air out of the laptop because the fans which are already operating within the laptop are forcing air out of the case. The design of airflow should match the preexisting fan placement of your individual laptop and can be easily customized by placing the fans of the binder in conjunction with your vents/fans of your laptop

  • Excellent, you are a really good trainner, and ideas seller my congratulation!

  • or you just buy a buyable cooler

  • Can i remove the fan from my laptop if i have a notebook cooler??

  • @missholland98 No, the fan in your laptop is part of the heatsink assembly. If you remove the fan, more than likely your cpu will overheat.

  • Fake duct tape... Fuct tape?

  • This is a awesome idea i have been thinking of ways of how to make a box to do this and this is way better than my idea of thinking of getting some sort of box.

But i am concern in how well the binder can hold onto a laptop about 2.5kg

if including my hand i am guessing about 3-4kg ish

  • Holy duct tap batman!

  • Very impressive. The Binder is a great idea because it has a natural angle. Tape is not a good idea to secure fans. Today there is a multitude of inexpensive hardware choices. Two part epoxy might work well also. I love Proto-Type Engineering. Think about it as a career choice. You are a good speaker as well. Keep it up.Good luck.

  • No sir, thank you for your time, and nice booty shot desktop!

Yousir are the enbodyment of WIN!

  • how do i connect the other fan to the usb?? The usb is already connected to 1 fan so what about the otheer fan?? PLZ RESPOND ASAP!

  • wallmart for 20 bucks

  • Voltage: 12V DC.

    Starting Voltage: 7V DC.

    Consumption: 0,84 W.

    Rated Current: 0,07 A.

    Fan speed: 1300 RPM + / - 10%.

I found a cooler with these features is it ok , will it be ok for usb?

  • @Nikos870 if i remember correctly Usb can handle 12 volt power.

  • @Nikos870

Most likely not, and at least not "at full force"

Maybe, It "might work" but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't even move.

The reason for me to say this is that from a single USB You can AT MOST get 0.5 Amp at 5V (= 2.5 Watt)

And as You can see Your chosen fan is rated at 0,84 so the power is there, but the fan is rated as "starting voltage=7V" and You can't get that straight from USB.So the question is if it will move slower or just stand still.

Just my 5C hope it helps :)

  • awsome, thanks, this vid helped me alot

  • which way do the fans push air? towards the laptop or down? into the binder?

  • made one after seeing thus vid nice 1 :)

  • Just buy on Ebay for 2$+ free worldwide shipping!

  • dont use duct tape, use hot glue.

  • stuff that dorks have everyday that you can use

  • How about get a damn job and buy a laptop cooler...

  • @spiderpig85 or maybe he has a job and wants to spend his money elsewhere

  • ME: Mom,give me 5$

    MOM: 4$?

MOM: What to do with 3$?

MOM: I will give you 2$

    MOM: Here 1$

  • @armarares hahahahahahahahaha !!!!

  • umm nice cooler an all. BUT WHO HAS RANDOM COMPUTER FANS LAYING AROUND????

  • ummmm, dc power adapter 12v 1A, a sheet of lexan or other plastic, and 3 80mm fans, mark ventilation areas, cut hole mount fans leave extra on side to use as a mouse pad area. a little more than 3 dollars? yes! custom built to lap top? yes!

    idea's to produce a better product.....priceless!

  • good job that is so easy

  • i have 2 regular fans. 1 super dangerous fast fan with no protection guards around it. 2 super fast huge fan. my laptop is slightly elevated. 2 fan is on ground blowing air up and under the laptop. 1 on the computer desk blowing straight onto the laptop. BOOM never have that problem again. :P

  • the dossier idea was all i needed to get me do that paying just $0. Genius idea!

  • use supergleu to connect the fans

  • i have a green, yellow, and black fan.... what do i do with it ???

  • McGyver!!!!!!!!!

  • Great idea! I worked it and it's really cool :-D

  • Just a quick question - when you plug the fan in, you notice that air blows out of one side (other side probably sucking in the air). Do I face the side that blows the air into the laptop or the side that sucks in the air to the laptop.

  • i lifted my laptop up from desk, using 12v adapter, i run 4inch cooler that blows all the heat from under the pc away. and i added some paper walls to make the blow faster

playing games temperature dropped from 70C to around 55C

and it cost me nothing ;)

  • Great job man... 12 people went out and spent 50 bucks on one...

  • this is sooo cool . but i still scared to do it my own . not your fault , just plain mine , i fail terribly in electronic/electrics wiring stuff .

  • Thanks for this. It is fun to make your own stuff at times, Although to clarify a bit, You can get great quality coolers for generally $7. Even places such as Bestbuy and Walmart have them for $10. If you already have the tools to make it, Cool. But heatsinks and other computer pats aren't everyday stuff unless you work with computers or such. Sometimes it is actually cheaper to buy one.

  • @XSevenSonata true but you can't customize it to where your laptop's vents are. My laptop has vents near the edges. soo....

I just made mine with 3 spare fans on a metal sheet with holes on it. What made me do this was not cause of the money but cause i had everything required. But i do have to agree with you. Not really worth the effort unless you want to make a customized fan to your liking

  • @yellowman88 I know. But, Sometimes that isn't needed or wanted. I was just referring to those that don't already have the required stuff lying around such as myself. If you do however, Then go for it. And this is a good guide for that.

  • Totally gonna do this...today :] Im so excited!

  • Great Build. I looked at your build when I made my own. Just dont know why you stuck the fans down the middle. I used two 120mm Fans. I got so sick of my laptop overheating during online play.

  • awsum work dude well dun, do u think if u used a powerd usb port u would have more options with the fans?

  • why cant u just go buy a laptop cooler for just $15?

  • @CodyMetal it's fun to make your own stuff sometimes - however flawed they may be, you learn in the process, increase your scope, and most important of all - don't be a mindless consumer when you've got all that stuff lying around

  • @CodyMetal because making it is more awesome. duh.

  • Nice tutorial, I saw a Thermaltake fan in the box xD

  • very original, nice work man.

  • I FOOKIN DONE IT MATE!

    TA.

  • i just made one !!!!! olololololl i spent 0$ HAAAAAAAA lol luv it it works perfectly plus the taking apart of the pc waz easy cuz im in tech class :P

  • Nice work, but I LOL'ed when u lifted the lid and showed your awesome duck tape work.

  • thanks ALOT dude, and for me big bans work O,o

  • oh this is just too cool, im gonna give this a go, ive got a ps2 whic i use for spares and its got that big ol fan sat in there doing nothing

  • esta cool solo el audio :)

  • can you connect two fan cables into one USB cable?

  • using the binder is a great idea. you could get more current for the fans if you connected the green and white wires together.

  • @corn45009 no, as they are for data not power

  • @02watsot @02watsot You short the two together. The computer checks for this and treats it like a charger. It delivers much higher amps. I would rather use a seperate power source myself just to avoid motherboard problems. When the two data lines are shorted, it provides 1.8A.

  • there is no air flow. it will not cool your eee PC.

    But i like your project..

  • Genius bro!

  • Bro this is so boss. You inspired me to make one, but instead of a usb I used a old cellphone charger. input 12v and output 12v. Was going to buy one but this just saved me about 50$ Thx much :D

  • @dontstealmycandy I'm thinking of doing the same. Though I have a small doubt. Am I supposed to cut off the connector of the adapter and use it or do something with the connector. I know its a dumb question but.....:)

  • @dontstealmycandy can you make a video tutorial?

  • @dontstealmycandy sorry........ i stole your candy haha

  • you should try to dual splice the fan wires to your ass, it will blow this shit out of the water! hahaha

  • man that pc looks old xD wait... 2008 xD

  • Can you connect two fans in one usb cord?

  • Excellent.Keep it up young man.You just saved some money for the more important stuff down the road.A little window bug mesh over the fans will filter out some of the dust shooting through the lap cooler fans inward through the bottom laptop intake vents as well.Common problem with most fan coolers, they shoot unfiltered air into the laptop and this builds up the dust.

  • @positivealtitude then add a fan filter that was made for a case

  • dude, connecting 12v fans to your computer via usb is bad to your motherboard, that's how i ruined my last laptop

  • ok thats fucking awsome. i never thought of using a binder for something like that. im more of a desktop person myself. and if you wanted to use more than one fan without going crazy overboard and using up all your usb ports on your laptop you could hide a usb splitter in the binder as extra suport. to.

  • now the only thing i still need is my box of random computer parts (:

  • Nice work but this isn't really a $5 mod as you used parts that totaled much more than that if I were to go out and buy them.

  • Def. Does not work. I just spent an hour tinkering around with all different types of fans we have here at the shop and 2 different USB cables. One I cut from a mouse and another I cut from a printer. None work. I hooked up a GPU tiny fan to it and it BARELY moved.

  • @TheGrundleLove Have you tried connecting it to a computer? :P

  • simple and efficient

  • wow u save alot money and you share an idea good job!

  • I would definitely suggest using electrical tape over duct tape but other wise this is a good idea

  • Just did this, saved 50 bucks, thanks for resourcefulness!

I knew me taking out those removable fans out of my old computers would come in handy !!

  • I have a 12V fan...it has a red, black, and yellow wire...i spliced a usb and connected them to the black and red wires.......................plugged her in and it dont work....is my fan votage to high?

  • If I knew you in real life I'd pay you to make me a custom cooler. Coolest shit ever.

    Great Job.

  • Seriously Doood this is freakin Dope !!!!! in the age of recycling you've clenched it :) Well done n thx

  • turn the fans the other way up it will be more affective

  • Cool cooler system any ideas on how you would go about making one that snaps onto the side and pushes or sucks the warm air out of the vent holes? my laptop fan is dead and its an older laptop so finding a replacement fan is hard i have tried already

  • very nice ,,...il try that..

  • lol you can get notebook cooler for 5 dollars from hongkong seller on ebay.

  • @kpandrya Then wait a week till It's deliverd.. maybe longer, why wait so long while you can make one in under 10 minutes?

  • REAL NICE WAY TO BLOW UR MOBO

  • You dont need a friggen custom notebook cooler, just buy any old cooler. Its not like a 3rd party hardware maker creates a specific piece of hardware for somthing, they just go by the size of laptops.

  • where did you get those circular metal wires?

  • wtf a binder lol

  • WOW YOUR GOOD! THANK

  • y dont u stack two fans per hole? more power ftw

no need for fans on the bottom

  • @PStimeless youd have a open looking awkwardly angled binder :P

  • but theres not really a lot of space for the fan to take in air only like 1 cm

  • it fkn recognizes it on my laptop but doesnt work.... gf 45min of my life?

  • @kiyosh12 link a cellphone charger instead

  • This is what we call Thinking out of the Box. In this case a Binder!

  • @teem180 No,

  • @teem180 No.

  • A BINDER!!! why didnt i think of that? brilliant!!

  • Sweet, I might do this with my G73jh.

Got a lot of big ass binders laying around but no fans -.-

  • Some idiot designed a usb cable with black for the DC+ and red for the DC-

i have to test it with a LED >:(

  • I was just wondering could I use one of these things for my ps3?

  • fans are not the suffs u get everyday. where do i get the fan?

  • great idea, i'm making my own next weekend!

  • I heard that these USB coolers actually do very little when it comes to cooling because the computers power supply has to work harder to power the additional fans. Does that sound right?

  • @DanCamFXPro Your incorrect, the 5v output from the USB port is non significant on the laptops power supply, it will just drain it faster once your running solely on battery power..

I've been researching laptop cooling for around 6 months now, and I have made some amazing mods which I will be posting videos on how to make :)

  • @darkmortal07 Sweet dude, thanks for the response!

  • i duct taped 2 12 pc case fans to the vents on my laptop for an experiment and they actually brought down the temp 10 degrees!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • this is very clever

  • well fuckkkkk ppl who dont have a big box of junk and arent nerds actually gotta spend couple hundred bucks :)

  • well fuckkkkk ppl who dont have a big box of junk and arent nerds actually gotta spend couple hundred bucks :)

  • Waaaaaw, thank you very much, it looks easy and you make it simple! I'll try it for sure.

    Thank you .. :)

  • how much those fans cost you in Francisco.

  • how can i find out how much is too much. Is there a way i can find out how many or how big the fans can be that i use???

  • Problem: Not everybody has a box of computer junk D:

  • You are a Genius. Simplicity simplifide. I have a Compaq laptop that has 3 fans. 2 that suck and blow and the 3rd blows. I hard wired (usb) the 3rd to see if it would help but at best got a temp reduction of 2 deg C. The fans on my Compaq have very little angle ( as in a propeller ) the suction is small although the blow is high, so I need to increase the flow of cool air to the fan to obtain a more efficient cooling action.

    I will follow your instruction tomorrow , Again u r a GENIUS!!!

  • I want to marry you...

  • ooooooooooooh baby man u made me happy :DDD i don't know how to thank u thank u alot :)

  • good video, i phink i gonna do this also

    (sorry for my bad english)

  • GHETTOOOOO GHETTTTOOOOO seriously, id rather drop 10 bux for something off ebay.

  • Make it out of a binder - GENIUS! I had been looking to get large sheets of acrylic cut to size, bent, drilled, etc. when I can just use a binder! So simple, yet so effective, did I mention that you're a genius?

  • (the plus yellow is in the fan)

  • I have a yellow wire too, and in the usb i have yellow blue red brown. PLS HELP! :D

  • well th problem i DONT have a fan

  • hehe clever! fantastic, thank you.

  • i got a gaming computer it has 4 fans and i overheated it

  • @nokiamel wow.

my reccomendation: dont play videogames while watching porn, lol jk

  • @pirox1234 lol

  • could you make like 4 fans run togeather? with one wire?

  • this question is kinda silly, but which kind of fan blowing works the best in a cooler pad? Blow upwards or suck downwards?

  • @chronousnemesis you want it to blow upwards so that the nice cool air from outside the computer gets into the laptop

  • I think you need more airflow.

  • Thanks for a very nice instruction dude, I have followed ur instruction and got my own cooling pad, but the problem is almost fan I got from PC is required 9v to 12v, so when I'm using power supply from USB it's only 5V, my Fan run like only half of its power...Do u have any solution for this? Thanks alot

  • @CHungCHac well every USB port has 5V output. You can't change it(unless there's a gadget that can do that). Another method is to used 9-12v batteries connected to the wires of the fans. or you can simply find an AC adapter which is not used and then try to connect the wires of the fans.

  • My usb cable has white, orange, green n blue.I did some research n found out blue is ground n orange is 5v.the fan im using is a n old celeron cpu cooler fan n a north bridge fan from a very old abit mobo.

  • Good job. Try to make it into dual usb ports. So you can support a bigger fans

  • @bbmak1125 my god man I think you're on to something!!!!

  • @layz4life2 GAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA DUAL USB??????? HAHAAAAAHAAAAAAAA omg that guy just made my day!

  • @layz4life2 so, most of the fans have a 3 pin or 4 pin connector, do I just cut the connector off so i can splice and tape?

  • @layz4life2 Hello, thanks for the help and for the idea!

I need to ask you something.I'm about to do that but i have only one fan from my old desktop. It's like the big one in your video. Will it make something or should i quit? Please answer. Thanks again and good job !

  • @layz4life2 or get a 12 volt dc wall socket converter and use 12v

  • @layz4life2 R those 5v fans? be cause i had 12v fans . They did't run that fast. I use a 5v fan and they r alot better.

  • @layz4life2 No no... go with 3 usb ports.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

If the fans running off of that dont keep your engine cool, its meant to overheat.

  • @layz4life2 did this helped for you acer ???

  • @bbmak1125 hey dude! that's not a bad idea :P

  • @bbmak1125 negative returns when using usb power as you are now spinning 120v from wall to 5v usb = loss as MORE heat. If cooling is the goal , get your power somewhere else. I make video to show you...

GOOD JOB DUDE thnx 4 the vid

  • @bbmak1125 or you can get some resistors and plug it into your house

  • thats one ghetto cooler LOL

  • i actually just came up with the idea myself, and i built it last weekend. but instead of duck tape i used the screws. and 5V from USB was just not going to cut it. so i stripped an old laptop power supply (16V) and connected it to two 12V fans. And i also closed of 1 side of the map with some paper to up the air flow. I saw it worked best when removing the bottom part of your laptop, and now i have like 10-20°C difference whenon or off. i might do a video reaction one of these days showing it

  • Your trying to use the side where the fan suck out the hot air from the laptop?

But how come other people do it the other way blowing back the hot air.

  • this is so good ! ! ! !

  • Realy cool man! I made one and it works perfect! Thanks for the idea!

    <
