It was a mistake to release this demo to the public.
In my experience if you show a client something with a placeholder graphic they will complain about how that graphic looks.
The clock widget is obviously not the default clock s4 will ship with, it's a placeholder to demo the interaction and experience (which looks great). From this video I actually have high hopes for s4 but the general public will only see an ugly clock.
I hope you consider this next time to shuts the idiots up.
Looks good, IMO, looks minimalistic yet powerful, no extra flashy useless gimmicks.... plus that button in the top left corner looks like a menu button = no need for a hardware menu button, they could release a phone without any face buttons like N900.
I like new, bar on top, very clean re-organization.
I like the grouping of network signal and battery indicator, hopefully when pushed, a menu will open up with all the other indicators and ability to turn on/off bluetooth, wifi, data, etc...

Looks sensible to me. But doesn't look anything new. Multiple customisable homescreens are a great idea. Maybe you should look into what GNOME and KDE are doing with 'activities' - areas/screens designed around doing different things, but still allow it to be fully customisable as in maemo.
If Symbian 4 is going to be like that, I won't buy any mobile with it! Sorry but Symbian 4 looks like old to me................ Why don't you guys try to be better them Android, apple our Windows 7 Mob???
... BUT I suggest designers and developers to look about placing the Widgets.
The placement should looks like a part of entire theme instead of having a box on top of it. Since we have multiple home-screens now, most of us wants our home screen fairly simple so now we can arrange other things on different screens easily and put one or two most important items on home-screen. But just try to not make it box like.
I think it will sure look beautiful and more attractive and functional.
Well, I am hoping my words goes to high departments.
What I think is, we really need to have some different font here as many and many others asked for too. This font-face is just not shining as much any more.
Secondly, I am sure this new UI is first step and it is not as bad as many said in comments and with the time obviously we will see much more improvements. Everything improve and evolve with time so no problem here... BUT (continue...)
Hells yeah for Cape Town!

Symbian is dying, even Nokia is ditching it now. They're going to provide their new models with WP7.

@justnick1986 Yep, that's exactly what I was going to post right now.
Obvioulsy it looks really bad because of it's graphics, they're only sample, really basic sample to show the UI concept.
Otherwise, the UI is really... 'common' this days with multiple "desktops" just like Android with 3 dots above, like the iPhone OS's menu style
They really need to renew their UI, it doesnt have any innovate... nothing at all
And yeah, i've the worst symbian based phones witch are Sony Ericsson :(
