is the sheik guy speaking arabic? what language is that? just curious.. i love it when, after getting presumably punched in the balls, the sheik falls to the floor & adjusts his knee padding before doubling over in pain. he should win an oscar
This is what Vince mcmahon has taken away from wrestling and wrestling ,with his sports entertainment,as a child in the 80s ,born in 1976.not one time ,did my father take me to see "Sports entertainment" however we went to see Wrasslin ,on a regular basis
yeah, i hear you I was born in 75 myself and went to a lot of portland wrestling when they came to my town. I sure miss it and wish my boys could see it.
What is funny is Dutch Savage gave up wrestling and is a preacher (I think SDA) out of Hazeldell, WA I see him on local cable access when I switch channels.
The good ole days of Portland Wrestling almost every show had blood or broken bones. Nothing like the crap WWE pushes on us now. That is Bull Ramos.I met him, Jessie Ventura, and a several others when i helpe set up the ring when they played at Stevenson High School in the 70's. I still recall ole Spike Simon picking a fight with Bull Ramos and getting his ass kicked.
What a classic !! I didn't know this film doc existed. I've met Dutch, a total class act. Even know, in his '70s, he could still body slam you. And I'm not kidding, bro.
Portland Wrestling, top of the food chain.! Playboy Buddy Rose, Al Madril, Rip Oliver, Mean Mike Miller, The Assasin, Kendo Nagosaki, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Billy Jack Haynes, Superfly Snuka, Dutch Savage, Dynamite Kid, Little Tokyo, Kurt Henning, ect. RIP Sandy Barr; the man ran his own flea market, did commentary in the Crow's Nest, wrestled, AND was the referee! Some venues include Portland Memorial Coliseum, Eugene Lane Co. Fairgrounds, Salem Armory, Tacoma Dome, Spokane Civic Center
If someone can give me the name of the old lady who was ALWAYS sitting in the middle of the front row at every TV show for Portland wrestling (the Crows Nest announcers incl. Don Owens would randomly mention her), I would be mighty impressed
Awesome! You and my former high school science teacher Mr. O'Shea are the only people I know who would know that; therefore both of you are Portland Wrestling Gurus in my book. My grandfather sold sheep and cattle to Don Owens, he was a good family friend.
yeah too bad he did not archive the matches it would have only cost him twenty five dollars a week for kptv 12 to save them. Don could be a cheap ass even thou he was millionare cattle rancher.
How bout this one; remember Billy Jack Haynes telling the Iron Shiek he was gonna stick his boot up his "oil well" while getting interviewed in the Crow's Nest? I remember the crowd going absolutely nuts like never before or since.
Your right, because Billy Jack did come later, and if I remember correctly (I'm 32, I was very young) didn't he go by a different name before he was Billy Jack Haynes with the gold prospector hat and yellow feather, wearing the green and yellow Oregon trunks? As for the oil well comment, I completely remember that and the Crow's Nest
No billy wrestled late in life and was sent to calgary to get seasaoned up there in 81 or 82 then portland in late 82 then of course a stint in florida, georgia and the wwf.
For that awesome tidbit, I send you the Commemorative Playboy Buddy Rose memorial Burgerville USA "I worked hard for this body" t-shirt (If of course I actually had one!)
I wish Don owen would have saved the tapes he complained that it cost like fifty dollars a week while he was a millionare cattle rancher what a cheap ass don was wasn't he. I mean no consideration for the future.
70's pro-wrestling was the best because you had an older fan base that grew up on 50's wrestling and really hated the heels, everybody sold moves and it wasn't mass marketed like a breakfast cereal. Sure hardcore and hybrid is neat to watch, but there is no suspended disbelief and when the guys get seriously hurt, the fans can't tell until the EMTs come out.
This is slower passed but with a story line you gave a damn about, today's mainstream wrestling is for people with short attention spans.
If anybody interested I have an update to this documentary called "Dutch Savage & Portland Wrestling: The Real Story. Available now on DVD. Look for the promo video on Youtube.

Dutch Savage, always the true professional, loved and respected the sport of wrestling like no other. To this day. What a true pro.

So cool how in those days people of all ages could go and enjoy a wrestling match. Today it's like going into a fucking arena-sized mosh pit.
