i downloaded the .exe file, but it says that its not a "valid Win 32 application", im running a windows xp 2002 media edition with a Pentium 4 CPU with 3.40 GHz and 2 GB's of ram... pls help

this is my computer, and i dont see how i would have a virus, i tried to get msn and it did this so i rebooted my computer ( put it back to factory settings ) and i erased everyhting, well it still does it, but i now have it but now it says when i go to log in " the service is temporarily unavalibe with a error coade of 80040154, and i dont know whats wrong.. please help, i miss my msn messenger :'(

Then it gives me an error message telling me that some other program is interfering with the Windows Live Installer. I have checked and found out that no programs are running. So then what is the problem? I have even uninstalled the previous version of windows live messenger, the 8.5.

The error code as given by the installer is:
