The lead singer's mixed voice is not blending with the song, it's too thin. She's using more head voice compared to chest voice. It wasn't the best idea since Mariah's songs leave no place for head voice under the whistle register. Also note that Mariah's voice gets heavier (depth and resonance) in the fifth octave. She managed to pull off Mariah's runs and melisma but she lost the flow at 3:10, it started to sound unnatural especially because she's using her mixed voice.

@andisingtoo I' ot an expert but I thought singing too much with your throat was bad for your voice? Chest singing is more natural (as long as you're singing in your range) surely?

@madaboutmariah there is a lot of confusion surrounding the definition of "chest voice." What I can tell you is that if it hurts don't do it. What Hartlyn is doing here is a really nice model for what healthy singing sounds like. She is using a mix between "chest voice" and "head voice". I wouldn't call myself an expert but I have studying voice at a university for 5 years now.

this was good, but the lead singer sang in too much head voice to try and reach the same notes as mariah. next time sing mostly in chest voice.
