This in hind sight is so wonderful to hear. U2 had no idea where they were headed and had no cares about it. They were doing what it was that they were doing for what ever reason and it took the world by storm. I remember this one, I loved it. This song took this young boy away into a rich stream of imagination that I will never forget.
@TheNonola and 90s man hehe achtung baby zooropa all that zoo tv was there for 3 years and then pop it was an even better thing than 80s u2 and something new-er than ever multimedia event with chaos of information i would kill for that zoo tv concert
my favourite is daddy is gonna pay for your crashed car live because it so funky
We have never had a band last as long or been as relevant as U2. That's why they come in for a lot of criticism because people simply have nothing to compare them to. i expect that our children's children will play u2 records.
When I was in Dublin in April I went to see the "U2 wall" in Windmill Street where all their early stuff was recorded. Of course it was just a graffiti-strewn backstreet, deserted with it being a Sunday. It was only afterwards I realised I had been on a pilgrimage .....
U2 were a band only during the eighties, all their albums were amazing back then from boy to rattle and hum, too bad bono forgot their purpose was to make good music, i would suggest to irish people to ressurect phil lynot, your only hope :D
It's amazing how U2 have managed to keep the same sound throughout their entire 30 year career. Of course, they got melodic later on, but they still have no problem writing songs like this. I'd say amazing, but they were on top of their game when they started- no juvenile punk songs for them.
U2 had their share of juvenile, but refined, 'punkish' and non punk songs in the late '70's and 1980, e.g. Trevor, Inside Out, The Fool, Boy/Girl, False Prophet, The Dream Is Over, Jack in the Box, Learning to Live My Life, ...
u2 are remastering all there old albums and putting bonus tracks on joshua tree and boy albums great news that u2 signed a new deal with live nation to carry on for 12 more years one of the best going bands in the history of rock music up there with the rolling stones

i laugh at everyone who tries to make this song to be more than what it is. it doesn't suck, but it's hardly a classic either.
it's par for the course as far as an 80s pop/punk/rock/whatever song goes - nothing more , nothing less.
get a grip you fanboys.

how many bands make music for 30 years without running a bit wayward every now and again? None!! they've got an extrordinary catalogue.

Go ask anyother band to write a later u2 song. Not even R.E.M managed to keep the hits per album ratio up as high as U2, and I love those guys.

Even though Vertigo does sound like Stories For Boys, they work well together if you mix the two songs together right.
