I got a mark 5 jetta and love it I don't think vw screwed up when they lowered the quality like hard plastics drum brakes and a torsion beam. The civic and corolla are the exact same we are just used to the excellent quality vw gives us. The 2012 corolla is hideous and the new Honda civic is.... Well a honda civic, nothing special I see tons of jetted where I live which means sales are way up and they did a good job. Vw FTW!!
"Hi, I'm the editor for this video. I would much rather be driving something in the sports car segment so don't mind my complete lack of enthusiasm. If you actually care about cars, buy something faster. If you don't care about driving, it's probably a good car for you."
listen i just bought a 2011 mk6 jetta 2.5 se with convenience and sunroof package about 2 months ago and being a huge fan of all other vw models especially the Mk4 i LOVE this car its not the fastest, No.. but i love it, touch screen, leather interior it is an absolutely amazing car. if you are looking into it, BUY IT! black on black its fuckin BOSS
@mrporschepimp not really, own a 2005 mazda tribute, 2011 audi q5, and a 2011 vw golf tdi, the mazda has no problem at all, nothing wrong with the audi yet, but the engine of the golf got problem after one month so have to send it back to dealer, hey i love german cars, in fact i hate most japanese cars (toyota, and lexus) but japanese are just way more reliable than german cars
When was the last time a Volkswagen killed someone with 'unintended acceleration'? Never?
Japanese cars look stupid and the Koreans are chasing them off the same cliff. Volkswagen is playing it smart by making cars that actually look like real, respectable cars.
@luminaeus oh of course now japs cars are boring bland, but its only toyota, u never heard anything from mazda, infact they make great driving machine, like a jap bmw, they are way better than toyota, korean does make awesome ass cars, in fact to me they already surpassed most jap car company and that include honda, but u know what i mean
Generally when people think Japanese cars they think of the two biggest producers of boring econoboxes, Honda and Toyota. Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, and Mitsubishi have more interesting cars, but they're not dominating the market.
Korean cars are bland econoboxes just like Honda and Toyota. A Hyundai might look sporty but the driving dynamics aren't there. Vague, numb steering, body roll, poor balance. The Genesis Coupe is merely OK, but a V6 Camaro, Mustang, or 370z are better.
What the hell? I just bought one of these and I think they look great! Alot better than the competition. The handling and drivability are also great. Plus, he was putting down the interior which is pretty damn nice. Overall it's got even more of a sports sedan look and feel than the previous one or anything it's competing against. It also avoids the lameness stigma you find with most of its competition. Lots of car for the money.
also hes smoking crack because the interior materials have been the same on the jetta golf for the past ten years, that dashboard is the exact same material as the old ones
i leased one of these last month in a 5 speed S model and its one of the hottest cars Ive ever had, and ive had ALL kinds.... superior handling(little roll, stabilizer bar a good upgrade), excellent MPG, and just fun to drive as well as reliable, and for the price you arent going to find better luxury, we have a 2010 base civic, and the ONLY thing the civic has on the jetta is an armrest.
i've always been a vw fan. i drive a 2010 golf now and had a 97 jetta and my first car was a 1969 beetle. i like this car and looked at them when i bought my golf. i simply prefer a hatchback these days. i did notice that the actual materials on the interior of the golf are superior, but the jetta seemed as well screwed together, so to speak. i think the german vs. mexican quality argument is bunk. my friends with mexican jettas have fewer problems than my friends with german passats.
you get a better built car with VW over the 200. germans are wayyy better at building cars than americans. im american and ive have a american truck so dont say i dont know what im talking about.
@unatiq Normally no. But when I hear the auto mags and others say "it has chrysler quality plastics," and a 2 valve/cyl 4, ; i'll take the fusion. read the fusion reviews, you'll get what i'm saying. listen, i love VW, but they are cheaping out to try and sell bottom basement cars. too bad
Ok thats just reviews, take both cars out for a spin at high and low speeds and you will notice a difference, as i said before im going to lease one very shortly, so i have been to every single dealer out there. VW was the last one i went to, when I saw the jetta and how it was I was blown away. You see I dont wanna spend much money, im looking at low end cars and this car does not drive like a $15,000 car. American cars dont drive like this atleast the ones in the samerange
He makes a lot of good points; the new Jetta does not have any "distinct" styling or anything extraordinary to offer. It is still a better alternative to a Corolla or Civic. Also, the Korean automakers have nothing on VW, imho. I would choose a Jetta over a Corolla, any day!
I don't understand everyone's obsession to have a soft dash. Who gives a shit? It's not like you'll be rubbing your face all over the dash and having sex with it.
His first mistake was to say it has the FSI 2.0L Turbo..wrong..we're back to the A3/A4 2.0L 115 hp slug motor..but it's perfect for my accident prone wife.
VW if you read this. not all Americans want a fat, slow car with single suspension and drum brakes. bring back the mk5. That WAS what separated VW from the japanese cars it HAD a quality interior, good performance, and a all round GERMAN feel and look for a great price. Look at the Porsche 911, BMW 3, VW gti they were all refined not thrown away and restarted, they are the best cars on the road. Your German! Think German! Jetta WAS uber cool now its not cool. What would Ferdinand Porsche say?
@mrporschepimp The jetta was always an economy entry level car up until MK4. That's when it became a step above and borderline premium. VW went back to producing an economic, affordable car. Not everyone has money. Not sure if you've seen one in person but it's a very nice car for what it is. The 2.5 has plenty power and they will be coming out with a GLI soon. I personally like torsiion rear setup. Less body roll.
there are several reasons i'll consider this car...
1. I don't like Toyota, Chevy or Honda.
2. I'm a first time buyer, and I need something on the less expensive side
3. decent MPG, since i'll be commuting to and from school.
I think this ride is a great value, honestly. Of course though, after hearing all of the complaints, I wonder how it will stack up against chryslers updated 200? reviewers seem to like that thing...it would be kind of funny if a Chrysler has better build quality than a VW.
@mista925 ditto...My 2nd buy...I have an 01 Cadillac Catera and I hate it. It has sucky gas mileage, engine problems, and everything in between. I am going to school and the commute is long, so I need a dependable car. I recently drove this car and it drives like a freakin dream! Get it, I'm getting mine in blue!
@yvoe9 check the internet for god's sake...it's a better source than youtube. Jeez...ask the internet a question, ANY question and it will answer it for you.
@SoberGeorge I agree. What were they thinking? Torsion-beam suspension, no more gas strut for the hood or trunk, all plastic dash, sloppy feeling controls. I am happy that they introduced the oddly placed push-button start though. They don't make them this way in Germany (the Germans wouldn't put up with this). You will end up paying much more for this car as the "S" model is not worth buying. So much for German engineering...
cheap hard plastics..... they tend to crack with heavy heat!!!!! I have the mk4 jetta with the dash looking like new, in comparison the other cars in my house, they all have cracks or fading in the dash
@aure14 it will be interesting to see what the dash looks like in these after some time. I like the car, but it's still not quite what I was hoping it would be. Depending on the aftermarket I'd still buy one though over the rest of the class.
My MK3 Jetta's dash is still just as clean and perfect as the day it left the factory 12 years ago. :)
I was so shocked when i saw the new 2011 jetta, i went out and bought a 2010 jetta TDI before they became hard to find. Great marketing VW... make the new version so hideously bland and boring and cheap looking that everyone buys the PREVIOUS generation.
I actually like how it looks kind of like the older 90s Jettas which was simple and had no weird little chrome bumper. For the money I would rather have a Hyundai sonata which looks sharp.
@blitch1234 Agreed, I don't mind the styling too much though I wish it was just a touch more aggressive. It does remind me of an evolution from the MK3 Jetta's crossed with a newer Audi A4. I wouldn't sell my MK3 off for one, but I'd still buy one.
I'm EXTREMELY curious to see what kinda aftermarket the car gets, that can make it a totally different car. A lil suspension work and a bit more power would transform the car imo.
@flightx I agree, and for what i was seeing is less expensive to make the car with euro specs, but it has to do with the regulations of driving in USA
@AdrianosFidi usually cars for the following year get release in Q4 of the previous year. Sometimes earlier like the Ford Focus 2012 will be release early next year. Q1/Q2 of the year.
I have an 07 Jetta Wolfsburg and I wont be buying this POS until it returns to its German roots and upmarket interior. Obviously VW didnt learn from their mistake when Ford NA Americanized the Focus and Detriot lost sales because of it.
Maybe I'll buy a used A4 instead when it comes time to buy a new car because I bought my car because of the ergonomocs, premium materials and Teutonic development.
The only reason I buy Volkswagens is because of their fantastic interiors and driving dynamics for a reasonable price. I'm willing to put up with the quirky electronic bugs and overpriced maintenance for the sake of fun and quality. This car has neither of those important characteristics, rendering it completely useless. Good job, VW. You suck. Don't Americanize the Golf, for it's all I have left.
WTF why r all of you putting this car down? Its better looking than the 08-10 series. Looked like a girl car. But this new one isnt the greatest car in the world. But its not bad. I'll buy one
@jacksonlzr93 i agree, this the first jetta I would buy, the previous ones looked very female oriented. This one looks like an Audi and looks pretty sophisticated I am looking forward to see if VW will make a GLI
@BetterDayz19 I'm a fan of the MK1,2,3,5 Jetta's and now the MK6. It does look SERIOUSLY upmarket in comparison with the last model, and certainly compared to the other cars in class. I just wish the interior and options treatments were as good as the previous models. Still a very good car indeed, and it will get even better for sure with the later models.
@jacksonlzr93 I like the new styling, it looks more grown up and alot like an Audi from the back ... but these so called compact cars are getting bigger everytime they redesign, this 2011 Jetta is actually bigger in every dimension than the 1990 Passat !!!
Maybe the answer is obvious... but WHY do AMERICANS support Germany so much? VW/Audi isn't that reliable, or great at all. Motortrend absolutely adores VW... but... why?
@Descartes619 Have you ever driven a proper German car.I believe no.Or you just don't see the differences between 2 cars.German car are the most appreciated in the whole world why.Take a drive test with some models made for the european market and you will see why.
@PhaetonPower bn ca ne intelegem. Oricum modelul Pt sua e inferior celui pt europa.La americani daca nu mai merge un buton sau are masina o defectiune minora inseamna ca nu este de calitate, fiabila.De aceea au incercat sa o faca mai simpla mai banala mai fiabila mai ieftina pt piata din america.Dar nici asa nu le convine.
@UltraFighter18 vw sucks balls. german cars are alright. my dad's 2006 mercedes e class has been the the shop three times this year. my own car is an older acura tl. never driving german.
@Descartes619 If one car has problems doesn't mean all the vw or German cars usually brake down like that.So you've never driven a german car and still you describe it like it let you down some how.Anyway go drive a jetta or a 3 series bmw or an audi a6 , a8 and than come with an opinion. The german car industry is the one that pulled their country out of the economical crisis. So the german cars are appreciated for a reason isn't that logical.
@UltraFighter18 hey maybe you should understand that people have their own opinion. my first car was a 1998 audi a4 which was slow and heavy. i don't like german cars and they are unreliable. go suck a german dick. also wipe your face. it's full of cum bitch.
OK my opinion is that you're an idiot.Germans sell more cars than the americans.German car industry is in in bloom your car industry in in decline and needs help from the governmental .In the future you will suck the germans dick that is for sure.
Not a car I would buy, but what a great & timely move by VW, at a time which GM "stupidly " dumps Saturn a car popular with budget minded young ladies...This thing is a shoe-in...Just sayin:-)
Why is this new one like a dulled up version instead of moving forward seems like the car got downgraded what gives? Is that what they went when they wanted to expand there U.S. market? I guess Americans like to buy lame cars instead of asking for better cars.
it's odd, we're always very vocal about not wanting watered down junk and want european spec cars, and i see many other Americans out there who are very vocal about it, but for some reason ever car manufacturer end up with the impression that we dont want anything exciting and we just want an econobox that's 3 miles long and weighs 20 tons
@LBB988 A front wheel drive is easier to make to repair, chipper and more reliable that's why.Besides the fuel consumption is better than in a 4x4.In Europe most cars are front wheel drive anyway the chipper ones are.
this guy is comparing the drive of Jetta with honda civic, come on noway.the Drive of Jetta is way better then corolla or civic.get your facts straight plz, then pass your thoughts.
@LBB988 lol, I do like the old models looks better, and why would they send over a car that was a downgrade from the European spec? I don't get it, the price difference would be little. We already have enough cheap foreign junk boxes to chose from.

I was so shocked when i saw the new 2011 jetta, i went out and bought a 2010 jetta TDI before they became hard to find. Great marketing VW... make the new version so hideously bland and boring and cheap looking that everyone buys the PREVIOUS generation.
scooped13 1 year ago
I actually like how it looks kind of like the older 90s Jettas which was simple and had no weird little chrome bumper. For the money I would rather have a Hyundai sonata which looks sharp.
blitch1234 1 year ago
@blitch1234 Agreed, I don't mind the styling too much though I wish it was just a touch more aggressive. It does remind me of an evolution from the MK3 Jetta's crossed with a newer Audi A4. I wouldn't sell my MK3 off for one, but I'd still buy one.
I'm EXTREMELY curious to see what kinda aftermarket the car gets, that can make it a totally different car. A lil suspension work and a bit more power would transform the car imo.

@regretlesssandiego7 Actually it's a baby Audi. They're strikingly similar.

@flightx I agree, and for what i was seeing is less expensive to make the car with euro specs, but it has to do with the regulations of driving in USA

a 2011 Jetta is for sale from 2010 ; why they called it like that ?
AdrianosFidi 1 year ago
@AdrianosFidi usually cars for the following year get release in Q4 of the previous year. Sometimes earlier like the Ford Focus 2012 will be release early next year. Q1/Q2 of the year.

lbryan250 1 year ago
I have an 07 Jetta Wolfsburg and I wont be buying this POS until it returns to its German roots and upmarket interior. Obviously VW didnt learn from their mistake when Ford NA Americanized the Focus and Detriot lost sales because of it.
Maybe I'll buy a used A4 instead when it comes time to buy a new car because I bought my car because of the ergonomocs, premium materials and Teutonic development.
epistte 1 year ago
The only reason I buy Volkswagens is because of their fantastic interiors and driving dynamics for a reasonable price. I'm willing to put up with the quirky electronic bugs and overpriced maintenance for the sake of fun and quality. This car has neither of those important characteristics, rendering it completely useless. Good job, VW. You suck. Don't Americanize the Golf, for it's all I have left.
qernst8 1 year ago
WTF why r all of you putting this car down? Its better looking than the 08-10 series. Looked like a girl car. But this new one isnt the greatest car in the world. But its not bad. I'll buy one
jacksonlzr93 1 year ago 27
@jacksonlzr93 i agree, this the first jetta I would buy, the previous ones looked very female oriented. This one looks like an Audi and looks pretty sophisticated I am looking forward to see if VW will make a GLI
BetterDayz19 1 year ago
@BetterDayz19 I'm a fan of the MK1,2,3,5 Jetta's and now the MK6. It does look SERIOUSLY upmarket in comparison with the last model, and certainly compared to the other cars in class. I just wish the interior and options treatments were as good as the previous models. Still a very good car indeed, and it will get even better for sure with the later models.

@jacksonlzr93 I like the new styling, it looks more grown up and alot like an Audi from the back ... but these so called compact cars are getting bigger everytime they redesign, this 2011 Jetta is actually bigger in every dimension than the 1990 Passat !!!
davidhalifax 1 year ago
@jacksonlzr93 lol no it doesnt. The front looks like a fucking ford (rental car shit) and its cheaper quality than the older model.

Maybe the answer is obvious... but WHY do AMERICANS support Germany so much? VW/Audi isn't that reliable, or great at all. Motortrend absolutely adores VW... but... why?
Descartes619 1 year ago
@Descartes619 Have you ever driven a proper German car.I believe no.Or you just don't see the differences between 2 cars.German car are the most appreciated in the whole world why.Take a drive test with some models made for the european market and you will see why.

PhaetonPower 1 year ago
@PhaetonPower bn ca ne intelegem. Oricum modelul Pt sua e inferior celui pt europa.La americani daca nu mai merge un buton sau are masina o defectiune minora inseamna ca nu este de calitate, fiabila.De aceea au incercat sa o faca mai simpla mai banala mai fiabila mai ieftina pt piata din america.Dar nici asa nu le convine.
UltraFighter18 1 year ago
@UltraFighter18 vw sucks balls. german cars are alright. my dad's 2006 mercedes e class has been the the shop three times this year. my own car is an older acura tl. never driving german.
Descartes619 1 year ago
@Descartes619 If one car has problems doesn't mean all the vw or German cars usually brake down like that.So you've never driven a german car and still you describe it like it let you down some how.Anyway go drive a jetta or a 3 series bmw or an audi a6 , a8 and than come with an opinion. The german car industry is the one that pulled their country out of the economical crisis. So the german cars are appreciated for a reason isn't that logical.
UltraFighter18 1 year ago
@UltraFighter18 hey maybe you should understand that people have their own opinion. my first car was a 1998 audi a4 which was slow and heavy. i don't like german cars and they are unreliable. go suck a german dick. also wipe your face. it's full of cum bitch.

OK my opinion is that you're an idiot.Germans sell more cars than the americans.German car industry is in in bloom your car industry in in decline and needs help from the governmental .In the future you will suck the germans dick that is for sure.

Why is this new one like a dulled up version instead of moving forward seems like the car got downgraded what gives? Is that what they went when they wanted to expand there U.S. market? I guess Americans like to buy lame cars instead of asking for better cars.
BlackTransAmdude 1 year ago
@BlackTransAmdude
it's odd, we're always very vocal about not wanting watered down junk and want european spec cars, and i see many other Americans out there who are very vocal about it, but for some reason ever car manufacturer end up with the impression that we dont want anything exciting and we just want an econobox that's 3 miles long and weighs 20 tons

@LBB988 A front wheel drive is easier to make to repair, chipper and more reliable that's why.Besides the fuel consumption is better than in a 4x4.In Europe most cars are front wheel drive anyway the chipper ones are.
