I had Shiite friends who would not believe that some of their books cursed sahaba. They were aghast when they knew about it. This is because they grew up at a time when what mattered is the desire to live together and find a common denominator. This is no more thanks to the Western designs.

Just give me two groups of sects, who did not at one time fight each other.

The issue is really this: given that there are differences between Shiite and Sunnis, why are they fighting now.

This could apply to any other set of groups.

Blacks and Whites do not fight in the USA, but if you go back to their writings, you would find extreme calls for fights and other nasty stuff. It is just that extremist are not shown as moderate like the situation now with Sunnis and Shiite.

Remember, it was during foreign invasios that Shiite and Sunnis fought each. During the Crusaders and the Mongols, the split became pronounced.

Also when the Ottomas were about to take over Persia, the Safawis, using religion as a tool to assert heir control and distinction from the Ottoman, forced the Persians to converty and instituted the cursing of Sahaba as a political message of enmity towards the Ottomans. It stopped afterwards.

It is only when those in control want to bank on these differences that they suddenly start making sense.

In Iraq, until the invasion, Shiites and Sunnis were intermarrying. A lot of Shiite would have laughed at you if you said that they cursed the Sahabas or practice Mutta.

Suddenly, the fringe of the Shiite community, i.e, killer, extremists, strated popping up like soap bubbles. Why now?

Funny enough this conflicts between sunis and shias only started to appear couple of months after the American illegal invasion , it's an old techenique that invloves spreading hate and conflict among different groups of any resistance, that leads to its demise. We know the game

But shaia and sunnis are very close brothers and sisters and there's no difference between tham , they agree on more than 90% and may be disagree on <10% so its not an issue
