  • Motown Junk, oh yes , damn good song :)

  • Maybe not quite the defining single of Revolution, but still pretty good!!

  • Okay, who kept buying Birdland records? I've yet to meet anyone who actually liked them.

  • @DigitalPrinciples Wasn't a fan, but i thought Wake Up Dreaming wasn't a bad song!!

  • @DigitalPrinciples That'd be me :)

  • wwoww spacemen3 and the my bloodyvalentine thats cool u cant buy man

  • fucking hell.... spacemen 3 were at number 1....

  • fookin Birdland number 2???? Spacemen 3 at number one is great

  • It's probably the only time My Bloody Valentine have received daytime airplay, and what a joy too. The leading track off that EP was "To Here Knows When" but I guess the Chart Show didn't want to show that for fear of scaring kids (shame as I think that's an amazing track), and opted for "Swallow" instead.

  • manic street preachers before getting signed a major label

  • I've just found out "The Chart Show" has returned for a brand new series on the Chart Show TV channel (Sky channel 365). It's the same format as the original series with the specialist charts, video graphics & information about the artist during the video etc. It's on weekdays at 9 a.m & 7 p.m, with obviously a new episode each week etc. So check it out if you're in the UK!...

  • It's funny seeing this now, as I used to really hate the "Indie Chart" when I was a kid, as I guess at the time I was more into the proper Top 10! This was the time when the Indie chart was 'proper' indie music & before it all went mainstream in the "Britpop"-era of '94 - '96. Whatever happend to My Bloody Valentine btw?...

  • Reformed and touring... They just played ATP in New York City

  • Who'd have thought My Bloody Valentine would've reformed & are touring again in 2008! Maybe Birdland & Spacemen 3 will follow suit? Lol

Shame the Bruce Willis video was cut off btw!...

  • Good video btw. Had to laugh though that the 2 members of Spaceman 3 had fallen out with each other, but recorded their album seperately and still wanted to continue with the band! If only some other bands would take note; The Verve, Tears For Fears & Pink Floyd for example!...

  • Did you see the end - classic video was Bruce Willis. What a knob!

  • That Nirvana song 'Sliver' does have a video, so not sure why they didn't show it. Great to hear MBV played in full

  • Nirvana only made the 'sliver' video in late 1992/early 1993, after the record company told them to make a video of sliver to promote the album "Incesticide". Incesticide was an album of sessions Nirvana made between 1988 to 1991.

  • Ah right, I knew I'd seen a video for it but I didn't know that. Thanks for the info

  • Another chart show blooper rears its head. This time they forgot to count - There are two no.4's (Throwing Muses and Manic Street Preachers). Hmmmm maybe the no.3 is on holiday !!!

  • BIRDLAND. Shit on me!!! Complete and utter blast from the past. Cheers for that.

  • Fuckin Classic Manics afore they became shite!!!!!!!!!!

  • those were the days when music wasn't musak....then reality tv came and death was amongst us....Britain's got talent,...hmmm me thinks it has talons - bullying is the new religion. Alan Sugar and co

  • in my day tv was better, and we had proper indie music not this bloc party rubbish

  • Throwing Muses an underated American band, early Mancs too legend!!

  • I adore the idea of MBV playing at lunchtime on a Saturday for some reason...

  • Thats a beautiful sentiment and made me laugh out loud. it would certainly be a confusing 5 minutes, luckily there's not too much white noise on this track :-)

  • Anyone know where to find the "God Knows it's True" video? I can't seem to find it posted anywhere

  • Love the Spaceman 3 song. Ideal for the earphones whilst walking through your bog-standard British shopping centre.

This Indie Chart is the 9th February 1991 featuring 'Swallow' from the Tremelo EP (My Bloody Valentine) and Spacemen 3: Big city.

  • 'Bruce Willis..?'

    'Respect Yourself..?'

Thanks for sharing that with us!

  • Yeah, a 'vintage video' from about four years previously! He must have had a film out or something.

  • If anybody has some old chart show recordings from back in it's day please contact me and I'll be happy to trade in some of my recordings for a copy of yours.

  • I was not struck on the "bloody v" song they played, however the indie chart was good. It would of been nice for me if they played the manics.

  • mbv: "they say their next ventue could be sweden or italy" f***ing shame on them to go and play in danmark and not in sweden when in the common lovelesstour back then.

  • Pretty damn cool actually. Love MBV and Spacemen 3. It's a shame about those piss-poor Clash imitators, though.

  • Please sign this petition to get The Chart Show back on TV

  • Wow wow wow! I have loads of these on vid that are squirelled away like museum relics somewhere!

  • Load em up!

  • I currently have not the vast amount of time it would take me to lovingly perform this task. One day tho!

  • Good Lord. Spacemen 3's foray into "there's always been a dance element to our music" completely passed me by. Thank you 23Daves, excellent work.

  • Amazing!! I was looking through a box of my old videos tonight and found one marked "Chart Show". Stuck it on, came online and guess what...it`s this exact show!! I was 10 at the time and had football training when it was on so I taped it to watch when I got home. The music back then was fantastic!! Carter USM, Muses, Manics, the list goes on. Cheers for this!! Now I don`t have to worry about wearing out my tape!!

  • Thank you so much! This is fantastic! I loved "The Chart Show" and really miss the repeats on The Vault...

I have a feeling I 'should' know this (I SHOULD know this!) but what is that MBV song? I really like it... (I will KICK myself when I find out, I know... )

    I 'must' investigate Spacemen 3...

  • The MBV song is Swallow.

Watching that brings back memories. Amazing to think that 6 mins of an Indie chart every three weeks was the only fix of decent-ish music on TV back then.

  • Thanks. :) (I was really racking my brains - I was thinking I 'should' know it, as I actually have two MBV albums... Shame on me... )

I think that 1991 is my favourite year for music! Watching these charts, and taking other '91 music into account - it's definitely in big contention... :)

  • totally agree, think i have said this on another post. Have to say my fave ever spaceman 3 song was revolution

  • Let the good times roll...

Awesome to see these old clips up here (I used to do the same on Saturday mornings - hovering over the remote for the Indie charts). Cheers!

  • yeah the manics!!!!

  • will they show the chart show on the vault again i hope they do

  • I hope so too

  • spacemen 3 - big city song is fantasitc

  • Another chart show graphic cock-up. The No.4 graphic is done twice... :P

  • 'God Knows The Truth' should read 'God Knows It's True'...maybe the graphics op just made it up as they listened to the track

  • BIG CITY the first tune I got out my nut to.Aged about 13.

  • carter and manic street preachers!!!

    amazin!!!

  • The chart for Feb 91 is quite inclusive check out Dave McAleer's book "Hit Singles - top 20 charts, 1954 to the present day" . Simpson s - KLF - Rod Stewart - 808 state - EMF - Madonna to name but a few !

  • They showed this edition on The Vault.

  • Thank for this i would of only been a month old or maybe less than that because i was born at the end of january lol

  • when i first heard spacemen 3-big city, i thought it was from the 80s cause it had that early 80s thing

  • thanks for this, haha i was 0 at the time

  • I love those 2 songs that they play in full. I like the irish sound that my bloody valentine has.

  • omg. I actually have this on tape because I love the Spacemen 3 song, but that's quite a list!

  • Perhaps we can all kid ourselves that this was the real chart and a halcyon era in music. Regrettably, Bryan Adams was probably in his eleventh week at number 1 at this stage...
