Im an obsessed Vinnie fan and for you to post this clip it's made me more obsessed, thanks for posting your a legend, is there a chance of getting a copy of this email me.
yeah, this is around the time when vinnie was completely on fire. holdsworth's "secrets", and tavaglione's "blue tav" are completely mind blowing)@#(^%
Yo Steve, I was at this clinic!! It was at Musically Yours. I had a tape recorder and Vinnie kindly asked me not to record it.. funny someone actually made a video!
Trust me...It can "work musically", it's a DRUM CLINIC...Drums are musical instruments too. Anything can work musically, even drumsolos. You can make music from sounds in everyday life...at work, sounds of machinery, at home just the sound of your air conditioner humming can be considered music. Wonder why Zappa is quoted as saying Vinnie was the one guy who could play anything he wrote out for him to play... Vinne has played with sooo many incredible artists...He's a total FREAK on the drums!
That is right! Vinnie does it musically, nevermind just "playing" it to get through it. He makes the odd time signatures and metric modulation sound so groovy and smooth, the way it was meant to be...unlike a lot of guys who just play through it.
Around 8:50 I think that Vinnie do some crazy singles and it seems that it "doesn't work" enough good for him, so he says to himself "forget it, this one will not work tonight...", very funny !!! :-)
For me his single works VERY WELL of course !!! :-)
"secrets" is a milestone in the world of music and drumming. the stuff coming out of him on that album is absolutely staggering. no one comes close to his level of musicality on the drumset.
Totally agree. I remember buying the 33' vinyl back in the day. I can't imagine anything approaching what he did on 'Secrets'. It's one thing to listen to all his chops on that album, but it's another thing to listen how he matches all the bass notes 'hits'. To the untrained ear, it might sound like random mess, but if you listen to the bassline, he hits everything (obviously with precise skill)
i was at this clinic

this is great, but the sound is choppy, is it like this on the original, or is this a result of the transfer to digital?
