  • Comment removed

  • The look on that kid's face is priceless...

  • Uh, my previous comment said I couldn't name any.

  • sounds awful....can't listen! I mean the sound quality of course.

  • Master!!

  • top

  • Hahaaa, "Not tonight"!

  • i like the part at 8' 52" that shows his is human,ha.

  • 20 years later and you can't count the people who can play this on one hand.

  • Yeah! It even took Vinnie two hands to play it!

  • Lol name one!

  • 4:00-4:17 is insane!!! (Well, it's all insane:) Nobody I've ever heard plays with this kind of electricity.

  • What Kind of snare was he using that day??

  • I saw Vinnie in clinic back in 1988 in Oslo,Norway. He was visibly nervous and shy exept when he was playing of course. He tore the house down!

  • @timeoutfourtwo Indeed! Vinnie has always been one of the very best!

  • hahahah

    "I'm a little nervous"

    then he plays like that

  • One moment of sheer brilliance after another...

  • Im an obsessed Vinnie fan and for you to post this clip it's made me more obsessed, thanks for posting your a legend, is there a chance of getting a copy of this email me.

  • i love vinnie, he's one of the greatest

i've been listening to joe's garage for weeks and i cant believe some of the things i hear

im dying to see him play live

  • damn what a insane groove at 5:55

  • Amazing! Vinnie's hands are like a Gatling gun. And his phrasing is soooo great.

  • this is a total vintage clip

  • I'm a big an of Vinnie and I've been waiting for years to see something like this. So great. Thanks so much for posting!

  • yeah, this is around the time when vinnie was completely on fire. holdsworth's "secrets", and tavaglione's "blue tav" are completely mind blowing)@#(^%

  • Yo Steve, I was at this clinic!! It was at Musically Yours. I had a tape recorder and Vinnie kindly asked me not to record it.. funny someone actually made a video!

  • Really impressive.

    Thank you Steve

  • this is great, but the sound is choppy, is it like this on the original, or is this a result of the transfer to digital?

  • Sick.....

  • 1989.. the golden era as far as I'm concerned.

    Secrets, period.

  • Aaaah, those guys really feel this can work musically!!!

  • Trust me...It can "work musically", it's a DRUM CLINIC...Drums are musical instruments too. Anything can work musically, even drumsolos. You can make music from sounds in everyday life...at work, sounds of machinery, at home just the sound of your air conditioner humming can be considered music. Wonder why Zappa is quoted as saying Vinnie was the one guy who could play anything he wrote out for him to play... Vinne has played with sooo many incredible artists...He's a total FREAK on the drums!

  • @dwd2h

That is right! Vinnie does it musically, nevermind just "playing" it to get through it. He makes the odd time signatures and metric modulation sound so groovy and smooth, the way it was meant to be...unlike a lot of guys who just play through it.

  • Click "View in High Quality"

    It helps

  • Am I the only one experiencing this out of sync with the sound? I hate when clips are like this =(

  • Click watch in high quality. It helps a lot.

  • Holy Shit! I mean poop that is sanctified. Daaayumm.

  • I have been shaking my head in disbelief for the past 20 minutes...

    I love Vinnie forever!!!

  • hahaha why did he say not tonight?

  • Around 8:50 I think that Vinnie do some crazy singles and it seems that it "doesn't work" enough good for him, so he says to himself "forget it, this one will not work tonight...", very funny !!! :-)

For me his single works VERY WELL of course !!! :-)

  • Thx Steve! Great video.

    Great playin' VC!

  • You HOD guys are awesome. Thank you for this gem. I look on the boards every once in a while, always something interesting going on!

  • 1989 was maybe one of the best year of Vinnie.. "secrets" with Holdsworth, the Buddy Rich memorial...!!!! amazing!!!

  • you're right! 1989! one of the best year of Vinnie!

  • @DRUMAPAPA7521 you're absolutely right.

"secrets" is a milestone in the world of music and drumming. the stuff coming out of him on that album is absolutely staggering. no one comes close to his level of musicality on the drumset.

  • @Lifesucksdie123

Totally agree. I remember buying the 33' vinyl back in the day. I can't imagine anything approaching what he did on 'Secrets'. It's one thing to listen to all his chops on that album, but it's another thing to listen how he matches all the bass notes 'hits'. To the untrained ear, it might sound like random mess, but if you listen to the bassline, he hits everything (obviously with precise skill)

  • What would we do without Steve...??

  • nice, he's so fast near the end.

  • LOLOL not tonight!!!! Love it!

  • not tonight, rolfmao!!!!!
