Thanks for the Pinnacle tips, Jeff- I've just watched them all. I felt that I'd outgrown MovieMaker, which has been great, but now feel that I'm in over my head with Pinnacle.
Your videos have been very reassuring, as well as instructive.
I got it to work! I had to reboot Pinnacle and give it some fresh air. Could you show me or email me a clip of your lighting/greenscreen setup? This just came out so good that I want to duplicate it exactly as you did it.
I believe it has to do with TechSmith Screen Capture Codec (TSCC). It is a codec that they created for use with Camtasia. I am pretty sure that Studio does not recognize that file format natively. You can download the codec from TechSmith's site. I believe that they capture the screen as video with a different frame rate. That keeps the quality high. Do you own Camtasia Producer? Supposedly you can output into any codec from that, Try DV.AVI and then import into Studio for editing.
Not sure if you can help, but I'm trying to do screen recordings with Camtasia and bring them into Pinnacle (I do training for day trading). I can't find a setting where I can bring in my vids (that are crystal clear in Camtasia) and have it come into Studio and play clear. It looks so pixelated as to be unusable. Support was useless...any ideas?
You can mostlikely do it using the Hollywood FX plug-in. Studio Plus by itself only allows one video overlay track. Another thing that you could do is create the file with one video overlay. Output that file as a DV.AVI file, reimport it back into Studio and load on another video. I am sure that there is another way. Even using the DVD menu tool and not outputting it as a DVD and using motion buttons would give you more than one.
How did you get the video behind you to record and show what you were doing in real time as you were demonstrating? I have a project where this effect would be extremely useful....please reply. (did you use camtasia, etc?)
I used two cameras at the same time. One on an LCD screen of the software and one on my using the computer in front of a green screen. Then just used chromakeying. You need a flat panel screen because if you use a CRT-based monitor you will see the scan lines. Same thing would happen if you videoed a CRT TV.
Will do. If I ever get a chance, no that YouTube supposedly accepts videos longer than 10 minutes, I'll put up my spin on how to get started with Studio. Then I'll see about getting around to posting Studio 12 tips.
You use the speed video filter. I believe I cover it in Studio Tip #5 where my daughter is on a horse. One is the normal speed. A setting of five would mean that it is five times faster and a setting of .10 means it would be 10% of the original speed.
Perhaps you want to do what is called picture-in-picture. That allows you to put one video on top of another. You can resize that video and put ti any where you want on top of the other video. Watch the tip that I made for that. Let me know if that helps.
You can do that with chromakeyingin Studio Plus. If you want to do a floating head, all you need to do is wear some really bright, green fabric. What ever is green will be replaced. The trick is to make sure the fabric is smooth so there are not any wrinkles. Those cause shadows. Most of these "clothes" look like leotards for that reason. I have worn a green t-shirt and had decent results. Just remember anything not green will show. I would use two or three lights as well to eliminate shadow.
Studio 10 is nice but Studio 11 Ultimate is even better and comes with some cool new plug-ins. Check out Videomaker Magazine's website for the latest review. You can upgrade from 9 or 10 to 11 pretty inexpensively.
I have not used Studio 7 in many years. I am still not sure what you mean by Tourniquet speed. Is that a setting? Slo-mo, reverse and such did not get into Studio until 9 came out.
Yes, you can. You can crop one video and place it over another video or any still. You can also place stills over the video. Check out Tip #3. I cover picture-in-picture there.
Vegas is not as easy to use as Studio. I have not used it in a while but it always reminds me of their audio application that they also purchased from Sound Forge - Acid. With Studio, you do not have to be a professional to use it. Anyone can do most of what they might want pretty quickly. I am not saying it's FCP or Avid Xpress or anything but you can edit even stills into a nice movie or DVD in a few minutes.
Studio 8 is nice to and you can always upgrade. A couple of key features that Studio 9 and 10 Plus versions add are the ability to do more advanced things like Chromakey, picture in picture, pan and scan stills ala Ken Burns, and a few other cool things.
Thanks for your tutorial!! Is there any way to make the picture in picture move?? for example a miniature person standing on someone's hand, how do you make the miniature picture follow the movements of the hand?? can it be done in pinnacle?? thanks again!!
I have a few more but I haven't posted them yet. Trying to get them below 10 minutes. I don't have one for Dolby Digital but it is in the audio editing toolbox. You switch from Stereo to Surround and move the speaker icon around.
Great video keep up the good work.

Everytime I do this my whole video just pauses/skips. Am I doing something wrong?
parislacey 1 year ago
@parislacey Not sure why. I let it render before playing. Have you checked how fragmented your drive is? Might be something simple like that.

My Pinnacle Studio 9 didn't come with the Chroma key, is there something I didn't do in the installation process?

Also one of the cool features of the Plus version. Check out my other comments on the video that you asked about for more information.

Yes, it's a good video! But you can't jut say, we hit this, because people like me who have never used Pinacle will not know what 'THIS' is!
But apart from that, it is very good.
Hope to see more,

Can you also do this on studio 9.1?
koolman1 4 years ago
As long as you have the "Plus" version of 9, 10 or 11 you can do thus. I used Version 9 to make this video.

Can you use the 'Harper 19' C Drive emulator?
dowling1981 4 years ago
Not sure what that is.

It uses the tourniquet method by means of Flash Back. What do you think of the Studio 10 Version?

It was slower until the PAD Scart came in, but the best domain is still by Tourniquet. What do you think of the bitrate crossover?

Can you do this on Studio 10?
koolman1 4 years ago
Of course and also in the recently released Studio 11 as well.

cool, but hard to see background, but info was nice, thanks
lasermansx 4 years ago
It's a little tough to see because of the resolution is limited with YouTube. If they had a bigger window and higher-res it would be no problem.
ionsolutions 4 years ago
hey didnt mean to sound like critical, just making note..was nice u share your know-how,thanks again~ken
lasermansx 4 years ago
No offense taken. I am sure they will improve resolution offered as prices for storage plumet and Adobe improves Flash video playback.
ionsolutions 4 years ago
umm i was wondering if you can crop and mask parts of a video like without a green screen with pinnacle studio
sharinganownz 5 years ago
Yes, you can. You can crop one video and place it over another video or any still. You can also place stills over the video. Check out Tip #3. I cover picture-in-picture there.
