Not calling you stupid or anything like that for it, just wondering, why did you use the thumb-less grip? Why did you ever even start out with it? Just wondering.
Awesome vid. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation.
As a spotter, when you notice ur kiddo partner is gonna do something extremely stupid
and is asking you to do some other stupid spotting acts,
you must have the vigilance & guts to tell the mother fucking limpy kiddo to fuck off with the impossible loading & pretend as a season bb'er to give spotting instructions
The best thing to do, as a spotter, is to slap the kiddo and beat the shit out of his stupid little brain.
What a fail. It's called the suicide grip for a reason. You are NEVER supposed to use that grip when performing a lift that involves moving the bar separate from your body. Only lifts similar to the back squat call for this grip.
@zsoneal21 well if your not an idiot you can...i put up this same weight with that grip and i didnt do that...it helps keep your wrists stable and not bent back but you should know what your doing if your gonna try it so you have a point
Watch Jacko Gill's videos up on youtube, he max benches 192kg (423lb) and is only 16 YEARS OLD! He's a shot putter from New Zealand and just qualified for the London Olympics. BEAST!
Seriously- suicide grip is fucking retarded. Open up one strength training manual, go to one training site (government institution sites or half arsed ones) and show me where they use the suicide grip.
Why post this video, then proceed to read almost 11,000 comments, most of them insults, pertaining to your use of a stupid grip? You've chosen to take shit on YouTube since 2006. Why??? Are you a YouTube partner? I'm going to assume it's because you want to help others avoid making the same mistake you made. Though you make no mention of THAT in the description. If so, I give you credit for probably saving lives with this video. Or at the very least, helping prevent serious injury. Kudos.
I bet that's the last time he used a suicide grip! fucking idiot ass people need to leave their egos at the door before they hit the gym and lift the proper way with good grip and good form etc... safety before anything!
@itzeyadig NAH! According to safety, you shouldn't be lifting anything heavier than 20Kg's, so does that mean you should do girly weights? :) Safety is necessary to a certain extinct but mostly it's just personal prefference, IMO
OUCH!!! that look like it hurt. At least you didnt seriuosly injure yourself & at least you've learned from it. it seems evertime i've ever heard or seen a bench press accident its always because of the lack of wrapping your thumbs around the bar. You'd figure it would be common sense.
stupid. Why were you even using suicide grip in the first place? Does it help alleviate pressure on wrists? No. Does it help with ROM? No. Does it help with anything? No. Why do it? "cuz it looks cool, derp"...
@danimal24 what the fuck are you on? What does that have to do with the description? I read all of your description and it still doesn't explain why you were using suicide grip.
@danimal24 Not really. It tells us you knew you were using the open grip and that you switched after, but not WHY you were using the open grip for all that time.
@jackknife891 Hmm, it's been so long since I read the description, I thought it was in there. I used the thumbs-under grip because once of my high school coaches used it and I mimicked him. That's it.
Actually, there may be some evidence to support alleviating pressure on the wrists. Also, it changes the mechanics of the lift and may be better for lifters with different strengths.
@Draykid citation needed. If you want to "alleviate pressure on the wrists", how about having the wrist track your forearm and using freakin wrist wraps? Only idiots that bench with their wrist bend might think that suicide grip would help when, clearly, the fact of the matter was that they were no benching well from the start. I bet those guys (maybe you included?) also bend their wrists on squats....
It took a while, but Mel Siff and some colleagues found that a thumbless grip alleviated wrist pains in the bench press.
melsiff (dot) com / 475 / mythconceptions-on-squats-and-bench-press-part-2 /
The only thing I use a thumbless grip on is overhead presses, which is done with a specific purpose and because there is almost zero chance of dropping a barbell.
Dave Tate stated that a thumbless grip switches the focus to the triceps.
that shiit was too funny honestly yo i was just replying that fall over and over again seeing your ass getting squashed hahaha damm man aint u got like chest pains after a few days or sumn cuz i felt that too bruh haha that shiit hit you haaaaard hahahahah
funny people still calling u names. i guess they can't read. no need for name calling you explained yourself clearly under the video. some times i do stuff with not great form or "cheat" to try to bet my best. WOW you are very lucky. angels with u that day :) glade your ok. nice work pressing that much.
It was NOT the spotter's fault, it was my fault. He let go quickly because that's what I told him to do. He wasn't expecting me to take the bar off the rack so quickly. Also, yes, I was using a dangerous grip. I used the thumbs-under grip for many years with never so much as a "close call". Needless to mention, I have changed my grip to wrapping my thumbs.
READ THE FREAKING INFO BOX! ( sorry that i copied this, just trying to make a point:) )
it's a legit way to hold the bar when it isn't going to fall on you. if it can fall on you then you are supposed to have a full grip. prevents it from rolling off your wrist bc of sweat or poor concentration. i'd rather my thumb break from the pressure than dropping a 300lb bar on my ribs and colar bone
Keeping your thumbs behind the bar is a legit way to lift, but he made his mistake by trying to get into his downward motion too quickly. Besides, it's not a good lift if you don't control the weight well through the entire motion.
Hope this guy bought a lottery ticket on his way home. You can't blame the spotter. The doofus trying to lift the weight (very stupid hand grip) if you slow down the video and play in slow motion if you download the vid shows the spotter didn't let go until this bozo was starting to move the bar forward and down. By then it's too late for any spotter to do anything expect help get the weight off him once it falls. If it was my gym, this fool would be banned for life.
Also, I never blame the spotter for all the dudes that think its the spotters fault. Its not the spotter who was benching the weight and if he tried to stop it from falling he could mess himself up.
your description was very honest and i respect that. It seemed to psyched yourself out when you lifted and put the weight back on the rack. I just don't think you were mentally prepared or you would have went for the rep on the first try. Sure am glad you are ok.
An average human can withstand between 600-800 pound weight before his chest caves in. Of course it depends when the weight falls and from what height.
